To be totally stuck with gift ideas for mums 60th.

My gorgeous mother turns 60 soon and I need to get a gift. And I am totally stuck.

She doesn’t want jewellery. We have already organised a weekend away so she has an experience but we need something material for her to open on the day.

I was trying to think about what she loves and one thing she loves is her bed and sleeping! She always tells me
Having her shower and getting into her clean bed is the most delicious feeling.
I would like to get her something luxurious for bedtime. I got her some
Cashmere socks already in the Jan sale. But need something bigger to go alongside it. My siblings might pitch in so the budget is a bit flexible.

Do any of you wise women have something that you love using, wearing around, in your bedtime routine?

I was thinking of a cashmere dressing gown but I can’t find one in the sale.

She won’t use anything electric near her bed at night so it can’t be anything electrical.

If anyone has a recommendation please let me know. I would be so so grateful!

Maybe something to do with your weekend away? Something she can use while shes there by making like a little travel hamper, have the cashmere socks, some nice travel smellies, some hot chocolate or tea, a little snack for bed time and a nice dressing gown if you can find one or some slippers?
Good luck!

The only thing i can think of is a good brand of night face cream if she uses that kind of things in her night routine. Or fancy quality bed sheets and duvet covers. I personally love pyjamas so i would have been happy to receive good quality pjs.

Hopefully, someone more creative will come along and drop ideas.

KC225 · 09/01/2019 11:56

Luxury memory foam or pillow. Silk pillow case (good for the skin apparently). Some high thread count sheets, duvet covers Top quality bedding is horizontal heaven.

What about a beautiful throw or eiderdown for the end of the bed?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 09/01/2019 11:58

Silk pillowcase would be my suggestion as well.

feska5 · 09/01/2019 12:03

There’s a brand called This Works, they make a lavender pillow spray. It smells devine. They also do lovely skin products. Perhaps you could make up a hamper. Along with some lovely silk pj’s.

Does she wear Sketchers?

Ive been wearing them since in my 40's, before anyone accuses me of ageism.

I'd love a pair of Sketchers slippers, but won't pay for them. I wear one of their cheaper pumps as slippers but it's not the same.

I was made up with the dressing gown that my DD got me from John Lewis.

I've started to appreciate good bed linen. I only go to TKMax, but get bargains

Does she like Candles?

A 'package' of items or one large present , to do with Bedtime is the way to go.

Birdsgottafly · 09/01/2019 12:09

Re silk pillow case. I know I couldn't sleep on one, I need cotton.

feska5 · 09/01/2019 12:16

Jo Malone candles are always a lovely gift.

Raera · 09/01/2019 12:20

I'm 60!
My favourite gift - an album of photographs. Old and new of family and friends. Done online and beautifully bound.

Fatasfook · 09/01/2019 12:21

“This works” pillow spray. Sheepskin slippers.

Madders45 · 09/01/2019 12:45

For my husband’s 60th, my daughter got him a photobook of his life and one of those DNA tests that tells you your heritage, which he found fascinating.

Does your mother have any interest in genealogy?

twopairsofsocks · 09/01/2019 12:53

A really special Hungarian Goose Down pillow?

CatsMother66 · 09/01/2019 12:57

I have a Neom reed diffuser by my bed, the sleep one and it smells gorgeous. Very strong lavender and it has lasted months so far.

Mummysharkdodododo · 09/01/2019 13:03

For my mums 60th I made her a printed photograph book of pictures from birth in chronological order up to her 60th birthday. I had to scan in every single old school printed pic, I also put some wedding album ones in there too. It took me months to do as I also cleaned up any low quality very old pics and then try to put them in order. She absolutely loved it and it was well worth the hours and hours it took me to put together. It brought back so many happy memories for her and she still often looks at it 5 years on. Could you do something like that maybe on a smaller scale if you’ve not much time?

Bedding is lovely but it’s not really something you treasure is it. I’d try to go for something that would bring back happy memories.

Hoopaloop · 09/01/2019 13:05

Llama trekking.
Owl handling.

babysharkah · 09/01/2019 13:09

I don't think bedding is a 60th present. I got my mum a photobook similar to @mummysharkdodododo (good name) and afternoon tea at a swanky London hotel that she loved.

SusieQ5604 · 09/01/2019 13:13

Linen sheets

crosstalk · 09/01/2019 13:33

I'd go for a luxury throw and/or a beautiful cover/pillow set. But love the photo book idea - of all her photos if you can steal or borrow off family. Having them online is great, but nothing like an album, especially if you can annotate it.

SimplyPut · 09/01/2019 13:49

I love nothing more than clean sheets and time to indulge myself.

For me a bath with Jo Malone blackberry and bay bath oil then matching body cream.
Into bed wearing silk pyjamas and cashmere socks with a candle lit (jo Malone again or White Company seasonal ones) and a good book!

KC225 · 09/01/2019 13:50

babysharkah OP has stated a weekend away has been organised already, so she needs something for the day. OP has also stressed that her Mother loves her bed and sleeping. No one is suggesting an ASDA basics polyester sheets (not sure if anyone still makes polyester sheets), the bedding suggested are luxury high end items.

crispysausagerolls · 09/01/2019 13:53

Harvey Nichols used to do (and might still?) a sleep hamper - I bought one for my mother. Silk pillowcase, sleep candle, sleep mask, chamomile tea and a few other bits.

Zippetydoodahzippetyay · 09/01/2019 14:01

Sorry this is not related to the bedtime idea but just wanted to share.

For both my parents 60th birthdays, I created photo books of their lives, as told by their friends and family. I included photos, funny anecdotes or letters sent to me by all sorts of people including school friends, work friends, current friends, sports club friends, siblings and extended family members. I had to be a bit sneaky in finding contact details for people and it took a fair bit of effort to compile them, but my parents absolutely loved them.

primoestate · 09/01/2019 14:34

I have a salt lamp beside my bed.....gift from my daughter. Absolutely love it. Soft light, dimmer switch and gorgeous colour.
And I'm nearly 60!

ToffeePennie · 09/01/2019 16:13

For my nans 60th I made her a scrapbook of all her family, memories, photographs, tickets. I included some cards from long distance relatives and wrote to her two living favourite celebrities who wrote back with signed pictures and actually wrote really lovely personalised letters.
Then in your mums case I would add a lovely personalised fleece throw with pictures of her grandchildren/children on it and some high thread count Egyptian cotton sheets.
(I did my nan an afternoon tea)

Netty909 · 09/01/2019 16:16

I bought my Dad an original newspaper on the date he was born for his 70th birthday. He really liked it and it was really interesting.
