If you didn't have your job would you still feel successful

I personally wouldn’t feel successful if I hadn’t managed to achieve the things I want career wise. I have achieved some of them, but not all, and while I do feel a sense of success i want to be better. That’s what keeps me going. I would feel I was wasting my potential in a different less prestigious job, and I’d likely be miserable. There is a public-facing element of my job and I get a buzz from seeing my name on things. But people get fulfilment from different things. There’s nothing wrong with wanting a job you can leave at work and prioritising your free time and hobbies/interests

Yes I would. I actually go out of my way to make sure I have other things in my life that define me and give me purpose.

I coach people with career trouble at work, and I find that there is a huge commonality with them all: that all they do is their job. They place so much importance on it that it becomes soul destroying when they experience set backs or don’t get promotions they want etc.

I feel, successful because of what I have achieved in my career. It's not amazing, I have zero confidence so there was never a chance I would set the world alight but I am highly valued in my workplace and I feel I make a difference.

I was the opposite of the smart dropout, I was the thick one who no one ever expected much of. I did my nursing training though and have had a good career as an RMN. A testament to my lack of confidence is that it took me 17 years to apply for a promotion and a bit longer to change jobs. Getting a promotion gave me the confidence to move on.

My job doesn't make me successful at all.
