To feel a bit scared to use an electric blanket?

I've been feeling really cold and DH feels really hot. I've been thinking of getting an electric blanket but I'm afraid about using it due to safety concerns. Am I being silly?

Best thing ever 🙌🏻
Get one. You can get a single for your side or a dual control.
Most fires are caused by an overload or electric sockets. They have different intensities, I do high to preheat then low. Then switch off

However, I think you are not supposed to use them on latex or foam mattress but this might have change, check your mattress label too

I love mine

I stand corrected! Firefighter here woke up to say that most electric blanket fires happened due to age and storage
Old blankets that are folded up over and over, as they get older, the wires inside can get damaged, so best to roll to store them Smile

Thanks everyone! Looks like i need to be brave and get one.

Can anyone recommend one please? Thank

My DH hooked our duel control one up to Alexa so now we can turn it on from downstairs ten minutes before we go up to bed

Morphy Richards Double Dual Washable Fleece Heated Underblanket 600002
We have this one
However I think if I was to buy another I would get one with a timer if possible
This one is washable and have used it for 3 years
Dual control

We have one similar to this.

I've had electric blankets since I was in my early 20's decades ago, and my goodness they are so much better than they used to be! You need one that fits on your mattress like a fitted sheet. No, you can't feel the wires. Dual control essential for a double bed.

A hot water bottle doesn't touch the sides for me, it just warms my feet, or my stomach or wherever I put it, whereas this is an all over heat.

Roussette · 09/01/2019 07:50

Mine has a 75 minute timer or if you want it on all night, a 12 hour timer. It also has 9 heat settings so I suppose technically you could put it on low overnight. I've never needed to.

I was put off when a friends went on fire and burnt her bed, but this was in the 80s and I'm sure they are much safer now xxx

Candymay · 09/01/2019 08:18

I’m so jealous of you all! I don’t have a bed- have to sleep on a sofa bed which I can’t make up properly. If I ever get a bed I will buy myself one of these electric blankets. They sound fantastic!

I've got the dreamland dual control mattress protector.
So it fits like a mattress cover with a fleecy side. I have it on under the bedsheet. Put it on before bed... Nice and warm when I get in. And it goes off automatically after an hour. Love it!!

Butterfly44 · 09/01/2019 08:45

@Betaday
That is soo cool! Is it plugged into a smart plug for that to work?

Betaday · 09/01/2019 09:04

Yes that’s right just a smart plug

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 09/01/2019 09:13

We have this- fantastic. I put it on as Im getting ready for bed - perfect. I keep it on 3 for an hour & that’s all I need to drift off to sleep.
