Just that really, I think Staffordshire bull terriers are similar and possibly interbred with pitbulls and very aggressive.
I visit families at home in the line of work in quite a rough area and have to ask clients to put dogs away as I’m terrified of being bitten as two of my colleagues have been attacked plus the local postie

This above incident just confirms my opinion.

Yanbu. There are certain breeds of dogs that junkies and crims and other lowlifes use as status symbols. So-called "staffies" are one, huskies another. They do it because it's easy to bring out the aggressive side of these animals and because they'll do more damage than your jrt when they do bite. Junkies etc might not have well paid jobs but they're not stupid - they have a remit when looking for dogs and "staffies" fit this perfectly.

It's not the dogs, it's the 'clients' in the rough area. I suspect it's rougher people / people living in rough areas who like the thought of one of these breeds.

A dog's temprament is a combination of nature and nurture. Of course, there's no such thing as a nanny dog. All dogs are animals and have the potential to hurt a child.

It does annoy me when people say breed is irrelevant and it's all in the upbringing. No, it's both. Nature and nurture just like with humans. Of course nurture plays a huge part, but we've bred dogs to have specific qualities to do certain jobs. It's why you'll struggle to get a Golden Retriever to act as a guard dog despite them being big and powerful. You'll rarely see a Husky acting as a guide dog. Having said that, I've never met a nasty staffie. The ones round me have responsible owners and are lovely.

Well not all Staffies are harmless or these two dogs wouldn't have harmed that poor baby boy. It's not really about the breed though.
What is unforgivable is any parent leaving a tiny baby (or child full stop) unattended or in a vulnerable position around any dog at any time.
