Wibu to paint a white 'no parking' line along the kerbside by my drive?

I've had a white 'no-parking' line to give me access to my driveway for over 20yrs. My driveway is very narrow and you can only pull out in a directly straight line. The line has now worn off and neighbours & their friends/relatives have started parking with the fronts of their cars overhanging my driveway meaning I can't get out. I've missed several appointments because of this recently. I phoned the council to ask about getting it painted back again (there used to be a fee for this) only to be told that due to cuts, they no longer provide the service. The council told me to get a sign made saying vehicles parked across my drive will be towed to the pound - and that in the event I'm blocked in again, I'm to phone the council who'll come & remove the offending vehicle. I don't want to fall out with my neighbours, it costs over £200 to get your car back once it's been impounded. On the previous 3 times I've phoned the police 111 they've told me the cars are registered to my street but there's no phone number listed for them to call & due to data protection, they can't tell me which house the cars belong to. Sometimes I have to go door-to-door knocking & either people don't answer or they don't know whose car it is. This is a major pita for me. I just want to be able to use my drive. Wibu to paint the line back in myself? There'd soon be a huge hugh&cry if I got each car impounded. What do you think?

If a line will help paint it, or perhaps some nice orange cones or something more permanent like Ballards Wink

I would put the sign up aswell.

Just go out and paint the line OP. Just be sure its around 4am so no one will run you over in the process.

Also start throwing blackcurrant yogurt over offending vehicles. Birdshit puts drivers off more than any white line.

Can you increase the width of your dropped kerb?

@cdtaylornats GrinGrin

They would also need about 5 of them with at least 2 holding cups of tea and someone holding a shovel for no reason at all

I've repainted over old white lines. Do it.

Just make sure you get the line straight and the right width. Use chalk to mark it out.! Didn't realise it was so cheap to buy the paint, you'll be setting a trend and encouraging everyone else to maintain their lines.

Lets have a photo of the finished job!

Note;

Dear Neighbours, My 'do not park' (official) white line across my drive end has worn away and the council have advised me to report anyone who parks across it, and they will ensure the vehicle is towed promptly. As we have a good local community, can I ask you be aware of this, or help me make others aware. I really don't want to take this action but will if I keep being blocked in & I'm aware it's an horrendously large fee which I don't want anyone to incur. Thanks, OP

.....then I'm afraid I'd report; they won't do it twice.

RomanyRoots · 08/01/2019 17:30

Just ask the council to redo it.

Damn you VforViennetta, you beat me to the bollards!

Dartilla · 08/01/2019 18:50

Do it (I'd do it cloak & dagger style, 2am) and then post a pic!

I've no idea what paint I'd use because when the council do it, they use a kind of white tar that lasts for years. I bet paint doesn't last 5 minutes.

It's called thermoplastic.

Returnofthesmileybar · 08/01/2019 19:02

Paint it! If questioned just deny and say you did see a suspicious looking vicar hanging around the front earlier on
