My baby has slept for 6 hours and is still asleep...

My baby is 11 weeks old tomorrow (OMG!) and he doesn't sleep usually for more than 2 hours at a time. He sleeps more at night than during the day but isn't a good sleeper.

I put him down for a nap a 10 this morning. He's still asleep. I've actually tried waking him when I changed his nappy but he's STILL asleep and wouldn't wake up. He has fed in his sleep, threw up a bit, cried for 10 seconds, then went back to sleep.

Why do I feel weird about it? Is this normal? If so how do I get him to do it at night?!

Hope my little man is ok.

An 11 week old has slept for 6 hours and you are unable to wake him - and you’re on the internet asking for advice? Hmm get him to A&E!

CatnissEverdene · 06/01/2019 16:01

I'd phone 111, that doesn't sound right at all.

MyGirl6 · 06/01/2019 16:02

@DonaldDucksTowel when I said I tried to wake him I just changed his nappy and he didn't wake up fully. He stirred a bit but stayed asleep. He woke up and cried when I wiped his face when he was sick after feeding too. I didn't actively try to keep him awake.

I’d be concerned if my baby couldn’t be roused.

Imalittleelf · 06/01/2019 16:02

Have you tried stripping him off to see if that wakes him up. Is he even stirring?

When my dd at 8 weeks got very tired and just slept she also had a higher than normal temp (38) turned out she had a urine infection and had to be kept in for antibiotics.

I would be phoning 111 or trying to get into the dr now if you can't get to a&e easily

mama1980 · 06/01/2019 16:03

That does not sound at all normal. Please call for help now/go to A&E.

MyGirl6 · 06/01/2019 16:04

Oh no. I honestly thought people would just say that 11 weeks is a normal time for babies to start sleeping longer. Oh god. Ok calling 111. Feel really stupid now :(

This isn't right, he could be lacking oxygen or anything! Babies that's age shouldn't got more than 5hours with feeding also

Icklepup · 06/01/2019 16:04

Phone 111

bumbleymummy · 06/01/2019 16:05

With him being so young you should really get him checked out. He might have an underlying infection. Have you tried waking him again?

val3ntina · 06/01/2019 16:05

I’d be off to A&E but maybe 111 would be a more level-headed choice? Definitely seek medical advice asap

bumbleymummy · 06/01/2019 16:06

It may be nothing so don’t panic. It’s just worth checking out because he’s so small. People tend to err on the side of caution with babies.

GobblersKnob · 06/01/2019 16:07

But he's had a full feed in that time? Agree I would undress him and see if he wakes up. If you really can't rouse him then it's an emergency. But if he's had a feed then he wasn't 'asleep' all that time.

underneaththeash · 06/01/2019 16:07

Does he have a temperature/rash?
If you're worried, undress him and blow on his tummy.

Two of mine slept from 7am-7pm from around 12 weeks.

LadyGregorysToothbrush · 06/01/2019 16:07

My 12 week old is sleeping 7/8 hours at a stretch overnight. She did 9 hours last night. Never occurred to me to be worried Confused

I hope your baby is fine OP.

GobblersKnob · 06/01/2019 16:07

And don't feel stupid, and he's probably fine.

PurpleFlower1983 · 06/01/2019 16:08

Don’t panic but you’re doing the right thing getting advice xxx

donajimena · 06/01/2019 16:09

I remember one of mine sleeping all day at that age. He was absolutely fine. So don't panic but do give someone a call as suggested.

JudasPrudy · 06/01/2019 16:09

I must be stupid then too because I wouldn't have rushed off to A&E with that Confused having said that when they sleep much longer than usual it is a red flag that something is working on them, usually a virus especially at this time of year. So take his temp, try to wake him, and ring 111.

BeatNickBeamer · 06/01/2019 16:10

Probably fine but not worth a risk so you're doing the right thing by getting advice.

TwoGinScentedTears · 06/01/2019 16:11

Ah, OP.

It totally could be him learning to sleep longer stretches-if only they'd do it at night!

Or he could be poorly, unrousable babies are a cause for concern.

So I can see how weirdly confusing it all is. Hope he's ok and it was him just learning to sleep for longer periods.

DangerMouse17 · 06/01/2019 16:12

My EBF boy did the same pretty much as soon as he was born. He would sleep 7hrs straight. I didn't worry. As long as they're getting enough milk.

My ds was a huge baby and is now a very tall 7yr old who wears age 11 clothes

Emsonline · 06/01/2019 16:13

Don't feel silly. It could be absolutely nothing, but with him being that little and this being out of the norm, you are best to get him checked over. Hope everything is okay. He could just be having a growth spurt or brewing something x

CarolDanvers · 06/01/2019 16:15

My baby slept six hours through the night at two weeks old. I didn’t rush off to A&E because I was asleep too catching up after two weeks of no sleep whatsoever. He was fine and from then on was a great sleeper. I’m sure your baby is fine but it doesn’t hurt to check.

MyGirl6 · 06/01/2019 16:16

I'm on hold to 111. I hope he's okay.

I've fed him twice but he didn't wake up either time. He feeds in his sleep because he instinctively latches on.

He hasn't got a temperature but he has had a cold so maybe just super tired?
