It's nearly my birthday, I fancy a Ted Baker handbag but is it a waste of money?

I really want a Ted Baker handbag - anyone recommend one? I don't want one of the £200 ones - just can't justify it but something maybe £100 or so. AIBU - should I just get something cheaper?

Aeroflotgirl ha ha - I was waiting for one like that!

You could make a load of extra pockets for all of your trousers, using old rags, and then you wouldn’t need a bag at all!

areyoubeingserviced · 06/01/2019 13:35

Op
If you can afford it , buy it
Life is too damn short

I have had a Ted Baker bag for 13 years now, it was a birthday present, it has been well loved and abused, it is just getting to the point where I am thinking of replacing it, I am not sure the bag for life would have the same durability ;) plus it is black leather and goes with anything. (Again unlike the carrier bag!)

InSightMars · 06/01/2019 13:39

It’s a special occasion thing though, cardibach a one off, sure, they serve the same function as any handbag but you could say that about clothes, shoes. We all have something for ‘best’ if you like. I have nice dresses and suits I wouldn’t wear to work or to go grocery shopping, it’s the same with my two designer bags. They’re dressy uppy and they were also birthday money gifts to myself, if I’d spent the money on normal everyday stuff it defeats the object of treating myself to something I wouldn’t generally buy.
It doesn’t really matter what the brand is or about the quality of TB v Mulberry v Prada, if you like a particular bag OP, get that particular bag. And enjoy.

ambereeree · 06/01/2019 13:40

Go for it OP. I have lots of designer handbags bought before DC. I loved carrying them around. I would look at net a porter and get a real designer rather than Ted Baker.

MadisonMontgomery · 06/01/2019 13:44

Personally I don’t think Ted Baker are good quality - I’d look for a decent designer bag. But if you want it then get it.

CrazyOldBagLady · 06/01/2019 13:44

Holger thats genius, you should submit that as a top tip to take a break (with pic) and see if you can win some money.

Thisnamechanger · 06/01/2019 13:45

I'd go for it. I buy myself one TB piece a year and the rest comes from charity shops! Grin

Imalittleelf · 06/01/2019 13:47

I almost bought a bag for £250 however i then found a linea one which was basically the same for £50.... feel i got a much better deal and it's good quality

Bluelady · 06/01/2019 13:54

I love bags. Ted Baker is mediocre quality and you pay for the name. My last bag was reduced to £25 from over £100 from HoF. It's really good leather, well made and looks good. I prefer it to my Mulberry.

jewllerybox · 06/01/2019 13:54

CrazyOldBagLady now I didn't think of that - stylish and practical!

I've got a black Ted Baker Sevina crosshatch tote (can't find on TB's website so not sure if they're still being made) and I absolutely adore it! I think it may have been around the £149 mark. The quality is beautiful.

I'm not big on clutter and I simply cannot afford to splash out on fancy items for myself, so it's my one 'nice' handbag, if that makes sense? I'm like Bernard Black with his super special biscuit - the one kept under lock and key - when it comes to that damn bag! Grin I received it as a milestone birthday present so I really do cherish it.

If you will use it, appreciate it and find a bit of joy in owning it, OP, it certainly won't be a waste of money. I'd say go for it!

Suziepoozie · 06/01/2019 14:00

Have you had a look in TK Maxx? They have lovely bags including coach and Kate spade

Ifangyow · 06/01/2019 14:02

If you want a TB handbag OP, then go for it. Who cares what anyone else thinks.
According to most on here only a hand knitted bag made from locally sourced sustainable twigs will do.

Polarbearflavour · 06/01/2019 14:04

I buy myself a new Mulberry every birthday.

ambereeree · 06/01/2019 14:04

@bluelady what bag did you get? I love my mulberry bags. Second place would have to be my Vivienne Westwood.

happystrummer · 06/01/2019 14:10

Ted Baker sale on Brandalley at the mo...

zenasfuck · 06/01/2019 14:24

Buy the bag if it makes you happy and you can afford it

I have a handbag problem - I have bags ranging from mulberry to primark, if I likes em I buys em

NeverTwerkNaked · 06/01/2019 14:25

I bought one and it broke within a week Shock

fartwhenyoustandup · 06/01/2019 14:31

Ted Baker bags are like Radley bags to me. Sorry, but they're a bit chavvy. Why not spend the money on a decent bag and get a Coach or Kate Spade?

Walnutwhipster · 06/01/2019 14:33

I've just been bought a lovely Coach one. They have a great sale on at the moment.

Hoppinggreen · 06/01/2019 14:35

Just buy it if you want it and can afford it
I’m currently toying with a half price pink bag on the Coach site at the moment
As for there being no need to spend more than £10 on a handbag you could probably manage with a 5p Sainsburys carrier if you wanted to or had to but if you’ve got other options why would you?

Haworthia · 06/01/2019 14:39

Of course it is a waste on money - you pay about £10 for the bag and the rest of the cost is for the logo. A fool and their money is soon parted

Why spend £10 on a bag when you could spend 5p on a supermarket carrier bag? Or, even better, carry everything in your pockets and hands for free?

OP, if you like them, buy one. Doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks of the price or the design Smile

Orangesandlemons82 · 06/01/2019 14:42

I bought a Coach prairie satchel in the sale - was half price on the website. I am really pleased with it and glad I didn't just spend my Xmas money on household items. Sometimes it is nice to buy something extravagant for yourself that you wouldn't normally buy.
