any police people on here?

I have recently had to sign an Adult Restorative Disposal form because my dog was off his lead and nipped another dog. It really wasn't a big deal, but they reported me.
The form says it MAY come up on a dbs check. As I am a teacher this worries me a lot. I can't find much information on google about this. Can anyone shed any light as to how this may affect my job?
Thanks.

Who got you to sign the form? If it wasn't a police officer, it doesn't matter and probably won't anyway as it doesn't render you a threat to children. What your dog does doesn't affect your teaching.

This is a very specialist area, a copper probably won't know the answer to this, it's more to do with DBS staff.

houselikeashed · 05/01/2019 20:58

I had a visit from a PC and she made me sign it.
I'll change the thread title then I think if I can, to include DBS people too.
Thanks.

Maybe pay more attention to your dog Shock

cakebaby · 05/01/2019 21:08

I very much doubt this would be cited on even an enhanced DBS check. I cannot see how this would be relevant to safeguarding. I really wouldn't give it any more thought.

Maelstrop · 05/01/2019 21:08

Maybe pay more attention to your dog

So bloody unhelpful.

Sugarplumfairy65 · 05/01/2019 21:09

So bloody unhelpful

True though!

ExFury · 05/01/2019 21:10

Things that show on your DBS can only be used against you if they are relevant to the role or your character in general.

austenozzy · 05/01/2019 21:12

It’s up to the organisation carrying out the dbs check to use the discolsed details as they see fit. Just because something comes up on a check doesnt automatically preclude you from a given post or job.

RagingWhoreBag · 05/01/2019 21:14

I guess if you were a childminder with children coming to your home and spending time with your dog it might be relevant but otherwise I wouldn’t worry about it. A dog nipping another dog is not like you’ve kept a dangerous breed and it’s attached a child. Just a formality I’m sure.

houselikeashed · 05/01/2019 21:14

thanks cakebaby. I am a natural born worrier!

She wasn't able to make you sign anything. Why did you sign anything from the police without seeking legal council?

coppercolouredtop · 05/01/2019 21:15

Pm me for advice if you want

mummy2pickle · 05/01/2019 21:16

Restorative disposals will not show up on a dbs check x

Tippexy · 05/01/2019 21:17

It must be fun from your high horse @Thewifipasswordis but you can’t spell counsel.

KSJG85 · 05/01/2019 21:19

It probably will show up on enhanced DBS according to DH. Up to employer if it's relevant. Possibly best to disclose to employer prior to them updating your DBS?

houselikeashed · 05/01/2019 21:19

Thewifipasswordis - because she was scary and said if I wanted to contest it, I would have to go to the station and give a formal statement and be officially questioned. It seemed easier to sign the form she gave me. I did ask for a copy, which she wasn't happy about, so I took a photo of it. All in all it was not a good experience.

I'm a police officer, we're always told dog on dog is a civil matter. Sounds like it's more to do with the dog being dangerously out of control what with it being off the lead than the actual bite. Were any conditions put on you around the dog? Were you contemporaneously interviewed? (Where you'd answer the question and officer writes down what you say just on a pad?) As PP said I don't know much about DBS checks, but unless there's a lot more to it I wouldn't worry too much.

brighteyeowl17 · 05/01/2019 21:35

Sorry if you found my comment ‘ unhelpful’ but you don’t seem to actually care your dog hurt another? Which speaks volumes to me.

wheneverythinggoestitsup · 05/01/2019 21:36

@brighteyeowl17
How do you know she doesn't care?? She's asking a specific question so there really is no need for your comments.

Doggydoggydoggy · 05/01/2019 21:37

Not a big deal?

I read your thread.
Your dog ran up to and bit a puppy on the nose unprovoked...

Would you see it as not a big deal if it was the other way round?!

I would have reported you aswell and while I hope it doesn’t affect your job I for one am really glad the police have taken this seriously.

Doggydoggydoggy · 05/01/2019 21:38

Oh and also, nips don’t break the skin!
Unless I am much mistaken your dog did so it was no nip!

Wolfiefan · 05/01/2019 21:40

At the time this happened OP started a thread about the event. They were shocked and felt dreadful and shaken up by it. They asked for (and accepted) advice about keeping the dog on a lead etc etc. They were really upset.
This thread is about the legal repercussions. I hope someone can help.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 05/01/2019 21:41

It will show up on an enhanced DBS and because of the work you do I'd suggest you simply sit down with your HT and go over it before it can appear anywhere. I'd bet my left arm they'll be fine with it, since it has no impact on your ability to teach/care for children in your class, but honesty is always the best policy where DBS' are concerned.

houselikeashed · 05/01/2019 21:42

Actually, we have suffered much much worse attacks on our dogs and to my husband, so, no, I wouldn't call it a big deal if it was the other way around.

OP posts:
Imalittleelf · 05/01/2019 21:44

Doggydoggydoggy are you the other dog owner... I have read back the original op she doesn't mention the actual biting incident in the detail you have stated??
