Have you converted anyone?

justlookatmenow · 05/01/2019 17:45

have you managed to convert anyone to become vegetarian/vegan?
Or has someone converted you?
If so how?
(I'd like to convert someone, can't see it happening though)

As a life long vegetarian/pescatarian

Butt your ass out & leave well alone. It's people like you who get the rest of us a bad name.

we are biologically omnivorous. It's a choice & their choice is nit your to make.

& ffs do not promote veganism to anyone, it is NOT a healthy diet unless you supplement. So it's therefore not a healthy diet. The deficiencies it causes are very serious.

AnyFucker · 05/01/2019 20:03

If we were talking about feminism I would be right with you

I swear I'm not judgey.....absolutely each to their own on every level of life, religion, diet, everything.
If I was to be judged I'd hate it, so that's certainly not how I meant to come across.
When I say 'industry' it's just what I've come across on the Internet, like I say I've been vegetarian for a long time, personal choice, and just got on with it.
Recently had tummy troubles so decided to eliminate certain foods whilst googling that I come across other stuff to do with the animal produce 'industry'......therefore making me try veganism, like I say it's hard and I'm still learning, and certainly not preaching, not even sure I will stick to it (till I get to self sufficient living)

Vegetarian for over 25 years. OP do you ever get the people who preach about how could you not have bacon? or try to get you to eat meat? Who ask you about bloody protein? Who suddenly become nutritionists when you tell them?

Why would you consider trying to change someone instead of just learning to cook a few meals?

justlookatmenow · 05/01/2019 20:09

Poloshot

Sorry to disappoint you, I don't

It's ok, we don't need relationship counselling over this.... we're not about to split up over him having beef on his Sunday roast tomorrow

Fair enough and maybe a number of people (including me) misjudged what you were meaning to say. My apologies Smile.

It's just that there are so many people these days (not least on MN) who say very similar things and who are serious about wanting to meat-shame people and assuming them to be stupid for making a perfectly valid decision; and it did initially seem from your OP that you might have been one of these.

There are also some meat-eaters who, entirely unprovoked, go on the attack and vegan-shame others who have made an equally-valid personal decision.

Intelligent civilised people don't do either of these.

As other PPs have said, could you ask him to make a meat-free variation occasionally (he might like it) or, even better, ask him to teach you his cooking secrets!

Hopefully if you read my posts you'll see I with you

Never liked taste of meat,so consequently don’t miss meats
Have had the mmmm bacon comments, meaningless as I never liked bacon
So I’ve never missed meat,or sat next to someone eating meat and thought I’m envious

JennyWhenny · 05/01/2019 20:11

Yes I converted someone to be an atheist

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 05/01/2019 20:12

People like the op make me want to eat meat and tons of it
Can’t bear the sanctimonious virtue signalling

I'd never try to convert anyone. I get really fed up of some people telling me that we shouldn't be eating animals or animal products, I don't push my neb in to other people's lifestyle and demand that they eat meat? I might as well say I eat children from the reaction I get of certain people that don't eat any animals or byproducts. I'm not claiming it's all vegans / vegetarians just a small few

slashlover · 05/01/2019 20:22

I just wanted a meat free lasagne

pigsknickers · 05/01/2019 20:23

Re Nestlé - it's totally possible to boycott them, I've been doing it for as long as I can remember. I just checked the list posted up thread to be double sure and nope, haven't missed any.
They are a truly disgusting company. On top of the breast milk scandal, they are in the process of buying up water rights in poor communities all over the developing world. The CEO said a few years ago something like "no-one has a human right to water" (I'm paraphrasing slightly I think but not changing the meaning).

birdiewoof · 05/01/2019 20:23

I’m vegetarian, wouldn’t dream of “converting” someone.

ItWentInMyEye · 05/01/2019 20:23

You haven't been vegetarian for 31 years if you ate fish until recently 🤦🏼‍♀️ vegetarian 30 years -entire life- and have never even attempted to persuade or 'convert' anyone. If anything I find meat eaters are the ones usually trying to persuade me to try bacon or something.

EmeraldShamrock · 05/01/2019 20:26

My Dsis tried to convert me. I am a low meat eater and a bit of a food phobic when it comes to lots of food so she managed to ruin my appetite for Chicken. She told me some cruel sick storys around dairy too but I still eat lots of dairy products.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 05/01/2019 20:28

Quorn is minging
Make a veggie lasagne, plenty bechamel and it’ll be lovely
Most veg esp,courgettes,peppers,mushrooms,aubergine,onion,carrots

justlookatmenow · 05/01/2019 20:31

Iwentinmyeye

I know, sorry I did say earlier when someone pointed this out.
Pescitarian. I just didn't eat meat, just that,

OP posts:
jessstan2 · 05/01/2019 20:36

Ask him to make you a fabulous vegan lasagne, or at least try to. He might enjoy the challenge. I googled, "Vegan lasagne recipe", and loads came up! Lentils figure in it.

(I've cooked and bought vegetable lasagne but can't say I'm mad about it, prefer to forget lasagne now (loved it with meat!), and have something else entirely.)

justlookatmenow · 05/01/2019 20:41

I'll go and get some grass from the garden and fry it with some herbs and spices I'm sure he'll enjoy it as much as I would lol.....

MamaLovesMango · 05/01/2019 20:41

I found it so hard to boycott Nestle @pigsknickers Sad it just felt like they have their fingers in so many pies, even if I thought I wasn’t buying Nestle, I was but indirectly. I’m going to check out the list again though and do some more research. They truly are dispicable. I do wonder if I try to do too much ethical shopping sometimes and that’s where I fall down because in the end, the only way would be growing and rearing my own food!

emmcan · 05/01/2019 20:43

There is no such thing as vegan.
If you don't consume anything that involves the use of animal products, (honey, gelatin etc) then your diet must consist exclusively of foods that have not been transported using petrol or diesel or electrical vehicles.
Good luck with that.
