To ask if anyone else is bemused by the reaction to Gregg's Vegan Sausage Roll?

Just to start this off I am a meat eater. I like my meat but, I am quite humoured by the reaction from social media about people insisting Greggs removing the Vegan Sausage Roll.

No one is making anyone eat a Vegan Sausage Roll. They havent taken the meat ones off the shelf.

I used to be quite partial to a greggs veggie paste, but they changed the recipe and they are bloody awful now

Chester absolutely. I do not get this angst over veggie sausages, burgers etc. Meat isn’t naturally that shape, why shouldn’t veggie protein be called the same name?

eliza my local Greggs still sells very lovely loaves of bread! It doesn’t sell vegan sausage rolls though, I tried to buy one today!

If I read 'vegan' or 'vegetarian (insert name of food that is usually a meat product)', I would not buy it as I would suspect it was a frankenfood like TVP. I like, and often eat, vegetarian foods like falafal, lentil patties, and so on, but I do want to know what I am eating!

Out of interest, Ribus, do you eat meat sausages like hotdogs? They could be any bloody thing.

I tried to buy one today, in two different branches, only to be told that they'd both sold out by midday.

One of the shop staff almost flinched when I uttered the words "vegan sausage roll" so I can only imagine they've had a lot of disappointed customers today!

No, I never eat hotdogs, one they don't appeal to me at all, and two, I consider them frankenfood too.

Ours had sold out an hour after opening

Pound bakery veggie sausage rolls are amazing. Not keen on Greggs or quorn anyway

I done see the problem - lots of supermarkets market vegetarian sausages / veggie burgers etc - had to chuckle in the pet shop today when I saw vegetarian/ vegan dog treats/ chews - dogs are CARNIVORES ( although mine will eat many things )

It's been pretty good publicity for them. I`m a meat eater but have to admit I am curious to try a vegan roll just to see what they are like. From what I heard they sold out pretty quick in my area.

I did laugh at the people there arguing over the definition of sausage as well.

In our local newspaper Greggs have confirmed that none of their shops in our town( many shops) will be stocking vegan sausage rolls, weird?

Dogs are omnivores - even the top quality dog foods are only 70-80% meat as they benefit from other things too (eg sweet potato is a common part of the remaining 20-30%)

That said, I tried buying some dog chews from the vegan shop and he didn't even give them a lick. I'm not sure he recognised them as food! We're back to the dehydrated tripe chews
