To let my six year old watch Ghostbusters

or is there a more child friendly version I’m missing? I know playmobil have recreated some scenes so I’m hoping they’ll do the whole movie! Or maybe the playmobil world poster on here can help Grin

Any thoughts? What age have you let your child watch Ghostbusters? It’s a 12A, used to be a PG until the 12 certificate was introduced.

I'll probably get flamed but I'd let my 3yo watch it with close supervision. Can't remember anything particularly awful in it but would be ready to turn off if she got scared.

Singlebutmarried · 05/01/2019 08:55

DD watched it about that age

Loved it.

Hoopaloop · 05/01/2019 08:56

I'd let them watch the original two but not the new one. This is because the new one is utter shit.

LongtimeLurker29 · 05/01/2019 08:56

My 5&3 year olds love it. Have watched a few times and never had nightmares lol

AnnaMariaDreams · 05/01/2019 08:57

DS is 6 and has seen it. He’s not a nervous type though- he watched all 3 Indiana Jones films over Christmas (supervised).

Lovewinemorethanhusband · 05/01/2019 08:58

My 3&6 year olds love the new one but find the older ones a bit scary

Saturdaycartoon · 05/01/2019 08:59

It's really scary! I wouldn't, but mine is afraid at most films.

It's definitely one to watch with them! Lots of ghosts bursting out of things.

I remember being terrified seeing it for the first time!

ThatsNotNiceRoger · 05/01/2019 08:59

I haven’t seen the new one but I wouldn’t let my 6 year old see the old one as he would find it scary and I don’t need nightmares.

Smidge001 · 05/01/2019 09:01

There's a scene where a ghost gives a bloke a BJ under the covers.

It might go over the 6 Yr old head but I was a bit shocked while watching it with children in the room! Shock

gamerwidow · 05/01/2019 09:02

I haven’t let my DD 8 watch it but she is absolutely terrified of anything with ghosts in it.
It’s one of those where you have to use your judgement about what scares your child. If you’re not sure make sure you are sitting with them and can turn it off as soon as they get frightened.

Fairylea · 05/01/2019 09:02

I would let them watch the old ones. I watched them about that age and loved them. But then I think films of the 80s were less scary than they are now. I was obsessed with Gremlins at that age!

HoomanMoomin · 05/01/2019 09:02

My recently turned 4 DD asked to watch it couple of months ago. She didn’t like it, but it didn’t traumatise her.

Tiredismymiddlename85 · 05/01/2019 09:03

I'm 33 and Ghosbusters 2 still freaks me out with the river of slime and the dude in the painting Grin It is my favourite one though!

ZanyMobster · 05/01/2019 09:03

Mine watched the old ones at 5&3, it wasn't scary to them at all, I remember being scared but it isn't to them as films have moved on so much.

ZanyMobster · 05/01/2019 09:04

They loved Gremlins too, they just laughed at that.

shouting · 05/01/2019 09:05

I went to see it at the cinema when it came out, I was 9 and my little sister was 7. It was fine. I think we were more traumatised by ET, but we were a bit younger then!

Igottastartthinkingbee · 05/01/2019 09:10

Ok, thought I was going to be totally shot down for considering it. Blow job scene could get a lot of questions Blush I might wait a bit longer as DD (4) will want to watch too. And yes I’d definitely watch it with them cause I was scared of the library ghost. That’s my main memory of the film!

My ds is 5 and loves scary things. We haven't seen the first ghostbusters but caught the second one on telly earlier this year. He liked it and no nightmares. Plays ghostbusters at school with a friend. All I would say is that the second one was a bit boring to start with due to all the relationship content.

ButtMuncher · 05/01/2019 09:12

My DSS had seen it at that age but was scared of Ghostbusters 2 (the painting).

Fairylea · 05/01/2019 09:13

I have watched it tons of times and I don’t even remember there being a blow job scene?!

I think stuff like that goes way over their heads at that age.

lemonface · 05/01/2019 09:14

YABU because in its day it was good but I watched it recently with my two DDs and it is utter shit!
Gropey men and the BJ scene is awful! Its crap! I hated having to explain all the utterly terrible sexism throughout.

lalalemon · 05/01/2019 09:15

My husband watched it from about 2/3 years old, we have a lovely photo of him sat on a potty wearing his proton pack! 😂

needtogiveitablow · 05/01/2019 09:17

Ghostbusters 2 is DS (5) favourite film - it’s way better than the first one. Just try to distract them when they’re on the old railway line - that bit always made me feel a bit queasy Confused

FixTheBone · 05/01/2019 09:20

all of my lot watched it at abut that age
none of them seem to be particularly disturbed.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 05/01/2019 09:23

My 4.11 year old watched it around Halloween time, not a problem
