DSD (7) and I have been watching music videos for the past 20 mins.

So far I've showed her Elvis, Queen, MJ, Aretha Franklin and The Beatles.

Can anyone name a few more for me? I've drawn a blank!

Bach. Beethoven. Stravinsky. Schoenberg.

If we’re talking about modern popular music, most of it is just variations on Robert Johnson.

elephantoverthehill · 04/01/2019 20:58

I apologise if he has been mentioned already - Jimi Hendrix

Dr Dre
Daft Punk
Norman Cook

Mumminmum · 04/01/2019 21:09

I agree with a lot of those already mentioned. Then there is
ZZ Top, because they made Texas Blues mainstream.
Bonnie Raitt, because she is all round talented and can do many different styles well.
RUN DMC, because they made rap music, that really flowed and therefore made rap more mainstream.
Yngwie Malmsteen, because he showed what a classically trained guitarist can do with an electrical guitar.
Adele, because she is a singer and a storyteller at the same time.

MutantDisco · 04/01/2019 21:13

Boethius? Pope Gregory? Guido d'Arezzo?

Then a load of composers but perhaps most significantly JS Bach and Mozart.

Then Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington.

Then Chuck Berry.

Then a whole host of pop artists, the most crucial and influential of which are The Beatles.

Prince and Madonna.

MutantDisco · 04/01/2019 21:13

Oh, and nobody more important than the Kraftwerk guys.

Jezzifishie · 04/01/2019 21:18

After DH was singing 'Friday I'm in Love' this morning, I ended up showing photos of Robert Smith to DD. Apparently he's very pretty and she loved his makeup Grin

nicslackey · 04/01/2019 21:40

Bob Dylan

ForalltheSaints · 04/01/2019 21:43

ABBA
Madonna
Spice Girls
Eminem
Calvin Harris

Jsmith99 · 04/01/2019 22:27

The Ramones.

In the 70s, rock became overblown, pretentious and self-indulgent. The Ramones were among the original punks who stuck two fingers up to all that stuff.
