I've been having a irregular heartbeat since may.
I was getting around 50 extra heartbeats a day (PVCs) a day
Doctor sent me to cardiologist and they did a monitor (this only picked up 3 that day ) and heart scan which was normal.
Since then I'm now getting thousands a day and back and rib pain with them.
I went to doctors today and she said she wouldn't refer me back to cardio as I was only there July.
Aibu to complain to practice?

How do you know you're getting so many a extras? Do you have a particular concern that wouldn't have been picked up on the scan? Could it be anxiety related?

Fairylea · 04/01/2019 15:44

Have you been tested for things like anaemia, Addisons and thyroid problems? All of which can cause irregular heart beats / pains in chest etc.

arranbubonicplague · 04/01/2019 15:45

Have you used a smartphone app. to record your heart rate? It might be useful if you want a set of records to show your GP to document any changes.

There may well be CCG restrictions that wouldn't support a referral without explicit evidence of a change.

Amaried · 04/01/2019 15:46

This sounds familiar. Are you the poster who suffers from anxiety as opposed to a specific cardiac issue. If you are I suspect you'll get all the same answers and suggestions as the last time.

PookieDo · 04/01/2019 15:49

I was wondering if you were the same poster who had anxiety that wasn’t being well managed

sallybally335 · 04/01/2019 15:51

I feel every single extra heartbeat.
10-12 a min
Then they will stop
Spent the last few days just crying about them.

OP posts:
PookieDo · 04/01/2019 16:00

Have they offered you any other kind of support OP
Or medications

sallybally335 · 04/01/2019 16:02

Propranolol which did nothing
Another beta blocker called metroprolol which didn't help.
They won't tell me why this is happening

OP posts:
sallybally335 · 04/01/2019 16:02

I don't have anxiety
They are trying to say anxiety because they can't find any other reason
It's the PVCs that have set my anxiety off.

OP posts:
PookieDo · 04/01/2019 16:05

I think we all gave you advice before and it did help but then came back? I think you need some support for your MH. Being this anxious about them will not be helping you in any way shape or form

I do understand anxiety and how it affects you, i staved off a panic attack today and have felt horrible all day because I am unsure if I do or don’t have chest pains. But the more I focus on this often the worse it is

I think you have options

  1. See another GP
  2. Pay for a private 2nd opinion
  3. Take help for the anxiety, have some CBT and see if this helps you
Lifeisabeach09 · 04/01/2019 16:06

You feel them? Have you ruled out palpitations?

sallybally335 · 04/01/2019 16:09

I'm considering taking anti depressants just to see if it helps.
They have gave me sertraline but I'm scared to take it.
In my head I have a serous heart condition that is going to ruin my life and eventually kill me

OP posts:
MotsDHeureGoussesRames · 04/01/2019 16:09

This is almost certainly anxiety OP.

Fattymcfaterson · 04/01/2019 16:09

I don't have anxiety

It's the PVCs that have set my anxiety off

Which is it?
I can understand that its frightening, but I do understand the stance of the gp. You've had cardio investigations which show nothing and have anxiety which doesn't seem well managed

sallybally335 · 04/01/2019 16:09

I feel every one.
I feel my heart stop then pause then thud.
At worst I can get 8-10 a min and I feel faint

OP posts:
sallybally335 · 04/01/2019 16:10

@Fattymcfaterson when I visited the cardio I had 3 and now it's thousands a day.
Surely this is a red flag that something is wrong.
I'm asleep and they wake me up,that can't be anxiety as I'm asleep.

When I'm having the PVCs that sets off my anxious thoughts, when I wasn't getting the PVCs I had zero anxiety

To be honest, if you're constantly counting your heartbeats and crying about them for days on end, I'm not sure that it's true to say you don't have anxiety. If standard medications aren't working, that strongly suggests it isn't a cardiac problem, and you need to take the sertraline that has been prescribed for you.

Fairylea · 04/01/2019 16:12

Op have you had blood tests for the conditions I listed earlier - anaemia, Addisons and thyroid issues?

If they’ve come back as clear and a cardiologist isn’t concerned it is most certainly anxiety. I do sympathise because I had similar health related anxiety and it’s dreadul but unless you seek help and take the medication it will never get better.

CripsSandwiches · 04/01/2019 16:12

This is classic anxiety. DH had a similiar thing. It was essentially quite strong palpitations which made him anxious which set off all kinds of symptoms. He eventually got referred to a cardiologist who did an ecg and heartscan. All fine. He said anxiety related symptoms were incredibly common.

PookieDo · 04/01/2019 16:13

Look I am not trying to make this into a competition or anything just that I do think you need to consider anxiety as a cause and use myself as example

I have a suspected DVT. I am self injecting enoxoparin. It’s all really scary. I have a leg scan on Monday. I am DREADING the weekend (alone) and have already convinced myself I will have a pulmonary embolism (hence some chest pain) and am experiencing real physical symptoms due to the anxiety this is causing me. It really can make your body do all kinds of weird bloody things

Fairylea · 04/01/2019 16:13

Anaemia can cause you to feel your heartbeat all around your body and cause palpitations. It’s really awful, but easily treated.

ShadyLady53 · 04/01/2019 16:13

My Mum had this and has been permanently labelled as “highly anxious”. In her case it was actually due to an underlying thyroid problem. I had a similar experience and it was due to sub-clinical hypothyroidism caused by an underlying adrenal condition. I had to pay for private blood test results (that tested t3 and later cortisol and other adrenal hormones) and a private endocrinologist appointment to discover this as GP wrote me off at age 27. All in all cost me £1000 but well worth it. PVs and tachy episodes disappeared after starting thyroid and adrenal medication.

Good luck, hassle them if you have to and demand a second opinion. If you can afford private blood tests then medichecks really helped me.

sallybally335 · 04/01/2019 16:14

Sorry @Fairylea I forgot to respond.
Yes I've had the blood tests for thyroid/mag/pot
I've never heard of Addison's disease before

OP posts:
Bufferingkisses · 04/01/2019 16:14

You've posted before and agreed then that you needed to try the anti-depressants to eliminate anxiety as a cause because it was obvious to everyone you suffer severe anxiety and your GP advice is probably sound.

You clearly haven't done this yet, why not?
