2.5yo ds goes in any of his clothes (except the smartest / most expensive). So joggers, jeans, chinos, cords, tshirts, polos, shirts, jumpers, cardigans, hoodies.
I know some people keep stained clothes for nursery but personally I wouldn't dress him anything that was stained or worn looking, just personal preference as clearly he doesn't care Grin
I always pack a spare outfit and in the winter appropriate waterproof, warm coat & wellies. In the summer a hat & suncream.

babysharkah · 04/01/2019 15:26

I bought a five pack of leggings and five pack of tops replaced with shorts and t shirts in summer from Sainsbury's. It was like a little uniform, didn't have to think about what they would wear, 'good' clothes didn't get trashed and I didn't care about them getting paint or whatever else on them.

gingajewel · 04/01/2019 15:27

Primark t shirts and primark leggings, cheap as anything and I don’t mind if she gets filthy! Also send spare pants, leggings and tops, she is only two though so might not need the spare clothes for older children

fuckwitseverywhere · 04/01/2019 15:45

DS doesn't wear anything I care about. Hopefully he will toilet train soon so this year I've bought loose elasticated joggers from supermarkets. Mil has bought him clothes that I'm not keen on so they got used for nursery too

PurdysChocolate · 04/01/2019 15:51

Leggings and a top, with a cardigan usually. Items I don't mind getting stained in paint, and that DD can pull down herself to use the toilet. 2 extra knickers, trousers and socks in case she has accidents. Coat for when they go outside.

iwillkeepthishouseclean · 04/01/2019 15:53

Next clothing but I was a prat they were ruined to get some nice but cheap clothes !

slappinthebass · 04/01/2019 15:54

I sent mine in normal clothes, just not brand new stuff. I like bright comfy Scandi/Frugi etc and would rather it was getting work a lot than saved for best. I did buy an extra playwear bundle from Scandi selling groups specifically for nursery. I can't bear to dress mine in plain clothes even for nursery. My 2 year old starts at Montessori next week and they have a uniform. I'm quite sad about it, but at least it's comfortable.

FoodRUs · 04/01/2019 15:56

Nursery have a uniform which isn't compulsory but I like her to wear; it's just a basic polo shirt and sweatshirt jumper which I pair with tracksuit bottoms or leggings.

Before she was big enough for the uniform (smallest size tshirt is 1-2 years and at 3 that's still big on her) I'd send her in tshirts I wasn't bothered about and tracksuit bottoms/leggings. Unless it's party day then they don't do messy play so she wears a party dress,

Sparrowlegs248 · 04/01/2019 16:24

I send a bag with full change if clothes in, plus hats, sun cream etc weather depending. He keeps a waterproof set (Lidl ) trousers and coat at pre school along with wellies.

HJWT · 04/01/2019 19:33

@fuckwitseverywhere haha I love the MIL part!!

Don't forget a white faux fur coat from Harrods.

(The daftest thing I've ever seen a child sent to nursery in!)

kitkatsky · 04/01/2019 20:02

Nothing that you care about being ruined. DD just wore supermarket clothes as that's what I could afford. I then didn't much care when she came home caked in paint/ mud etc

Sammy867 · 04/01/2019 20:11

Our nursery is one attached to the school so I send her in a uniform. It is non compulsory but I find it’s easy to wash, I dont mind if she gets dirty and it sets her up ready for school when she starts reception. Most parents I find send in a uniform. She has 2 pairs of trousers with polo shirts, 3 pinafores with polo shirts and 5 cardigans. They were all ASDA stuff so fairly cheap. I have a shelf in her wardrobe just for these clothes, 5 underwear and 5 pairs of socks/tights so by the end of the week I wash them all and replace. It’s easier just to go straight to this shelf and grab things on a morning.

In her bag is a set of “normal” clothes as a spare just in case. Her bag also has hat, gloves and a wet bag for dirty clothes. She has wellies that stay at nursery (it’s a forest school so they spend a lot of time outdoors and they have chickens etc) and the same wellies for home as well. She wears shoes for inside as the rules say they have to change to their wellies to play outside so shoes are indoors only anyways. She also has sunblock in her bag (not now but in summer).

My daughter goes in soft jersey dresses and leggings or t shirts and leggings. I tend to have nursery clothes and ones that are for home. There’s a bit of overlap but I like to have some clothes for home that are less likely to be stained. I tend to get a multi pack of cheap long sleeve and short sleeve T-shirt’s as I find it’s tops that are the most likely to get stained.

Suziepoozie · 04/01/2019 20:27

I’m a childcare worker and you honestly can’t beat a tshirt and leggings/trackie trousers. Layer her up, long sleeve top under a short sleeve and possibly a zip up jacket plus spares of everything - two spare outfits in the bag is helpful. Plus old stuff/hand me downs are great for nursery as stuff will get messy.

OneStepSideways · 04/01/2019 20:53

You need to provide a waterproof snowsuit/puddlesuit or rain-dungarees for outdoor play, plus wellies, hat and mittens. Spare mittens. Spare socks and a couple of spare outfits in case of potty accidents.

Most nurseries ask you provide a labelled water bottle (sports cap type).

Baby wipes!

In winter I dress my DD (nearly 4) in thermal base layers (long sleeve vest and trousers) then a sweater and soft joggers. A warm coat as they spend lots of time outdoors. Trousers need to be pull on style. Sturdy winter boots with fleece lining, and wellies for wet days.

In spring/summer she wears tshirt, thin joggers and a hoody or fleece. You need to provide sunscreen, sunhat etc. And summer waterproofs

Guineapiglet345 · 04/01/2019 21:02

Definitely don’t send her in anything you don’t want to get ruined, DH dropped DD off at nursery a couple of weeks ago and sent her in with the £60 coat my mum had bought her instead of the one I’d bought specially for nursery from a supermarket - £60 coat came home covered in felt tip pen that won’t wash out Angry

Magpiefeather · 04/01/2019 21:08

My DD 19 months is at nursery. I also teach peri music sessions in nurseries. So have seen all sorts.

Honestly best outfit IMO is leggings or joggers and long sleeved t shirt. Not white. Pref 2nd hand and not precious to you.

I have sent her in dungarees but she is comfier in leggings and t shirt. Puddle suit has been brill as they take them out in all weathers. Wellies.

Loads of kids seem to get sent to nursery with umpteen clips in their hair. They just rip them out over and over again and the staff just have to keep putting them back in. If that could be avoided I would!!

Cheerbear23 · 04/01/2019 21:13

I bought second hand bundles from eBay, joggers, leggings, long sleeved tops, t shirts etc and even coats. That way she had a big stock of ‘spares’ and I wasn’t bothered when they came back covered in mud, paint it other messy play stuff.

Jezzifishie · 04/01/2019 21:14

My DD's nursery has a uniform, but it's just t shirt/polo and a jumper with a logo on, plus supermarket trousers/skirt and tights/dress and tights (she likes the pinafore style ones). It is coated in paint, and goodness knows what other stains, but no one seems to mind too much. (Goodness knows what I'm going to do when she moves to Primary and has to look smart, my child is like a magnet for dirt)

OneStepSideways · 04/01/2019 21:25

I think buying cheap supermarket clothes for nursery is a false economy. They rip through at the knees, go bobbly and misshapen after a few washes, hems come unstitched. Better IME to buy good quality so they last.

My DD wears a lot of Scandi to nursery, nothing's been permanently stained yet. She likes bright colours and bold prints, I think it's important they wear clothes they like. Nursery's a big social experience when you're 3!

JellyBears · 04/01/2019 21:35

My charge has leggings and tops that are labelled and separate to her everyday clothes. She comes home covered in food and paint etc lol so it’s good.

BlitheringIdiots · 04/01/2019 21:37

As our DS was at nursery more than he was at home, then he wore the clothes I bought. Didn't buy special nursery clothes

Moominfan · 04/01/2019 21:38

Hand me downs, stuff that's stained. Comfy, practical and don't mind if it goes missing
