To book a holiday abroad

In early April? I really love having a holiday to look forward to and could go around the 10th. All this brexit business is putting me off though as we could potentially not make it.

I know nobody knows the answer but surely a couple of weeks is time for them to get planes back in the sky??

To travel without insurance is insanity even before Brexit. EHIC doesn't get you home on a medical flight. It's peanuts to get a policy and so I don't understand why people don't do it. We have an annual policy for £108 that covers all of us traveling together as a family or separately. It also covers us for cancellations for UK breaks.

Cheekysquirrel · 04/01/2019 17:04

With regard to the laws being EU laws my understanding is that as we Brexit they just automatically become adopted as UK laws - so no rewriting or training.
My dad has a private pilot’s license and that is what he’s been told - apparently it applies to all aviation. That has already been agreed.

shpoot · 04/01/2019 17:07

That's helpful idiot. Thanks

Where is your annual policy from?

Blithering
That document is fine as far as it goes.
Brits who are "legally resident" will be protected on the continent.
And those who are not ?
Its all going to be about reciprocal agreements .... if Sajid pisses around with EU citizens in the UK .....

minionsrule · 04/01/2019 17:09

We've just booked to go to Greece at Easter..... ptices will probably rocket after Brexit sorted. Our hotel is cancellable but might lose out on flights but they were relatively cheap.
As PP said, come 1st April the skies aren't going to fall in

shpoot · 04/01/2019 17:11

Minions. It's 29th March. I don't think the sky will fall in. Just don't fancy losing 4 grand when I don't have to

Talkin I'm with you that the situation is a lot more complex for EU citizens.

I'm going to Spain in July, it was booked as a gift for me. Our travel insurance have said they'll keep us updated but don't anticipate any real troubles yet. I think the end of March will be mayhem though, if this isn't all called off before then.

Your dad needs to read QU13 here

His UK certificate will be worthless in the EU if there is a No Deal Brexit

namechange34 · 04/01/2019 19:08

Simon Calder was on tv this week pointing out that the assurance from the EU re flights still flying in a no deal situation only applied to the same number of flights as last year. It may not necessarily be the new flights that got scrapped in the worst case situation, airlines could bin the routes or flights that existed last year in favour of keeping new ones. His advice was to book package holidays preferably through travel agents so that worst case you get the money back.

For my family, we will avoid booking until we know what's going on as 3 of the 4 of us don't have british passports. Also don't fancy long passport queues or disruption with a toddler

Cheekysquirrel · 04/01/2019 21:09

Ta1kin he only flies in the UK so I don’t know if that would matter to him. But the aviation agency people have told people that their licence will stand as usual and when it needs renewing will renew with the UK on it rather than the EU. He sent me a load of info on it from the civil aviation authority cos we are going away not long after Brexit.

Ta1kinPeace · 04/01/2019 21:13

cheeky
In the UK he should be absolutely fine
but his rules for UK and the new ones for EU .... read that link

Ninoo25 · 04/01/2019 21:58

We’ve put going away in May half term on hold until we’ve got a better idea of what’s going on. We can try and get a last minute deal if needs be

BlitheringIdiots · 04/01/2019 22:35

Probably some cracking deals right now

5foot5 · 04/01/2019 23:40

We are in the process of booking Provence for early June, we are actually planning to travel by train but that has nothing to do with Brexit and everything to do with air travel being such an incredible pain and we fancy avoiding it for a change.

shpoot · 05/01/2019 12:57

There's no cracking deals at all. I thought there might be
