To be blubbing watching the live news conference with the couple who have won £115 million in the new year lottery?

It maybe a cliché but watching the Irish couple who have won the lottery thinking that it couldn't have happened to nicer people.
They seem so genuine. Taking about the biggest joy is going to be helping family, friends, their communities and charities.
Usually don't get caught up in these stories but I think I'm slightly in love.
Their personalities just seem to shine through.
I wish them great happiness and joy spending the money.

Good luck to them being the targets of criminals, beggars, kidnappers and con artists for the rest of their lives. Never understand why people go public, especially with such a huge amount like this.

I'm not blubbing. I'm surprised they were so silly as to go out in the open. Why didn't they just paint the targets on their foreheads?

Apparently if you don't go public Camelot cannot/will not offer you advice help with begging letters/threats etc. If your neighbour suddenly had a brand new mercedes/Audi/Jaguar (other expensive car) and was jetting off to the seychelles every five minutes you'd get a bit suspicous.
They can offer advice on investing/put you in touch with experts on suddenly owning large amounts of money - but only if you go public.

I know someone who won a larger amount and what Dobby says isn't true - they will put you in touch with experts with or without going public - it's just that they stay in touch longer with the people who go public as they need more support

I think they are possibly quite pushy about going public as it's in their interests. I certainly never would but I can imagine people who haven't made that decision in advance could easily be swayed in that direction.

I'd never go public in a million years. Fortunately our neighbours know jack-shit about us in the unlikely event of a massive lottery win.

They do seem a lovely couple, but like pp, I would NEVER go public. Not because I'm greedy and won't share, but because I wouldn't want to be the recipient of hard luck stories and begging letters which might not be genuine.

It's surely obvious on what to do with begging or threats? Ignore and bin/delete the begging letters or emails, texts whatever. Tell the police about the threats. Not as if you don't have a lot of money to just suddenly disappear to another country if you feel properly threatened. And yeah as a Pp poster says, get a bloody good solicitor. Not like you can't afford it.

Camelot just want to show that they do pay out the money and try to look like the good guys. I wouldn't go public at all. Would tell people I had got a decent amount from a recently deceased relatives will and had invested it well so that i got an income from it. Simple. They don't need to know how much.

If we won the lotto our neighbours wouldn't know because they wouldn't see us for dust! We'd be off like a shot to the countryside thank you very much.

I was seriously astonished at their naivety. I think they're in for a few shocks. I hope someone wiser has their interests at heart. They do seem like lovely people. But not savvy.

They also don't push anyone to go public. They ask, they outline the pros and cons (though the person I know who won a largish amount can't remember if there were any pros Smile ). They don't just publish and let the winners sink! Their charter is quite specific in the type and amount of support they have to offer.

We have never told anyone else, that would be horrible!

I doubt your neighbour will be your neighbour for much longer if they win the lottery!

There'll always be someone who thinks they should get a handout who blabs everywhere. And even if you didn't start giving cash out to friends and family, it'd be pretty impossible to hide the inevitable change in lifestyle from them.

Having said that, I wouldn't go public either.

This isn't true I know people who didn't go public and camelot never pushed them too and offered advice.these people won years ago not millions and millions but at the time it was agood win.

OP if this made you blub, have you ever heard the recordings of people hearing over the phone that they've won. They played them on the radio once and it made me cry. Not sure if you can find them online.

We would keep it secret...no problem. We'd get a big house which we will say we can afford because of all the live-in lodgers (aka staff😚)

I would never go on telly with the champagne bottle I would rather poke my eyes out once these people have helped family and charity they are going to have every wolf at their door forever.

£115m is such a staggering amount of money I really doubt they have taken in the implications. I would be worried sick.

£10m, yes please. After that it’s a new career in charitable giving, investment and tax. And obviously all the hangers on and crazies.
