I've been single for a while now and have lost all hope of ever having the chance to meet someone. I'm a single mum with 1 child and between work and home life I just don't get out anywhere.

Can anyone reassure me with your stories of meeting your DP/DH? Give me some hope that it can happen!

When I was 13 my best friend lived next door to my now partner. We fancied each other rotten but at the time he had a girlfriend and then when he split with her I was with someone else.

We lost contact for 10 years and then he added me on facebook. We chatted for a bit and then decided to meet up.

I have now been with him 10 years this year and we have an 8 year old DD.

sunshineandshowers21 · 04/01/2019 11:55

i met my partner aged 14 at a roller disco where he came up to me and asked me for a swig of my smuggled in lamrini. 12 years and 3 kids later and we’re still going strong - and always drink lambrini on our anniversary 😂

Found him on my doorstep (he came to view room in student house-share I was living in)... 20+ years still together

MyBreadIsEggy · 04/01/2019 12:00

He was dating a friend of a friend.
She cheated on him.
I provided a shoulder to cry on and reeled him in Grin
Been together 7 years, married for nearly 5, and have 2 DCs

October 1985. We were three girl students in a house share and there was still a free room. So rather than end up paying additional rent, we advertised it on various university noticeboards (there was no internet back then).

DH was one of the respondents. He knocked on the door one afternoon, took the room, and things gradually developed from there.

Topseyt · 04/01/2019 12:02

I should add that we have been married for over 25 years now, and have three virtually grown up daughters.

Topseyt · 04/01/2019 12:04

Sort of similar story to Devilsavocado, by the look of it. Grin

Echobelly · 04/01/2019 12:06

Met at a rave in south London 16 years ago. Realised we'd grown up in the same religious community. Met at rave at same place a few months later and swapped numbers that time. Will be married 12 years this summer, 2 DCs.

Pearlgrey1 · 04/01/2019 12:06

Another tinder match here😂
Engaged this year after 4 years x

peachgreen · 04/01/2019 12:07

Twitter. I tweeted about a play I'd just seen - he was working on it and so was checking the hashtag. Got chatting and got on really well. A few weeks later I had a a spare ticket to a play, offered it up on Twitter and he took it. As soon as I saw him I knew I was going to marry him and he felt the same. It was like a lightning bolt. Six years later and we're happily married with a beautiful daughter.

cadburyegg · 04/01/2019 12:10

Plenty of fish. Initially joined up with a friend for a laugh, I was on the rebound, neither of us were expecting to meet anyone.

That was 9.5 years ago. We’ve been married nearly 6 years and have 2 lovely DC Smile

winterhappiness · 04/01/2019 12:13

We met at school. Were close friends for a few years before we started dating. I always knew he was the one! Married now and very very happy 😊

PeanutButterLovey · 04/01/2019 12:16

Like you OP i was a single mum of one, I had been single for a few years and decided i was ready to date again so downloaded a chat app and was strolling through at first I went passed him cos even thoght he looked handsome he was a bit younger than me, 3 years younger, but after a while I went back to him and we started chatting just friendly at first then we decided to meet up. At that point I was at uni and was only 1 hour train journey away so wasn't much of an issue we met up and from then on we met every Saturday and went on cute little dates to cinema ect once I graduated I moved back to my parents as my son was starting school and I wanted him to go to same school I did this meant being 3 hours away from J. We did long distance for a while either me going to him or him coming to me alternating weekends. After only 4 months he moved in. 6 months later we got our own house and then a few months after that got engaged. We got married in June 18.

wildbhoysmama · 04/01/2019 12:19

At a Hen night in a bar in the city centre. He saw me walking down the stairs and said he just knew! Strangely, he'd just that very day moved into the city centre and went a wander to find his bearings, chose this bar for a pint and the rest is history.

Neither of us were looking - him divorcing, me separated with 2 DS, but it was fate! Pregnant and moved in 9 months later, DS3 at 18 months, been together 8+ years and he's the best thing that's ever, ever happened to me.

Imalittleelf · 04/01/2019 12:23

Plenty of fish. Second time of joining.... met a few frogs... he came along... i wasn't sure.... 6 months after first talking I moved in. 6 months later engaged... Almost 4 years married with a house and a dc... hoping to try again soon for another. (35 this year)

I had been in some horrid relationships, badly treated and cheated on... I gave up hope so concentrated on myself for a while. Doing things I enjoyed, going abroad on my own ect ect. Friend at work convinced me to try online dating and to meet my dh. Really glad she did.

Turned out dh was working for the same company as me but a office in different part of the countrt I changed jobs and about 3 weeks later his job was transferred from up north to the office i was In, his desk was across the office floor from where mine was...... he ended up working with the guy that took over from my job..... if I had stayed I may have met him 9 years sooner when we were both in very different head spaces... strange how the universe works

echt · 04/01/2019 12:30

I met up with my DB to see a film - Lumiere on St. Martin's Lane. He said a mate was having a works do later the same evening and we could go along. It was instant attraction. Reader, I married him...my lovely and now late DH. SadSmile

EnolaAlone · 04/01/2019 12:43

I went to an action weekend for a political party and we were paired up to deliver hundreds of leaflets to some tower blocks in Sheffield. Took us hours and we'd still not exhausted our conversation, so it went from there.
