I love these threads, it's so fascinating to hear about what people do.

I'm a very senior magazine editor. I absolutely adore it but the pay is not great and my commute is horrific (2.5 hours door to door). But I do love it so much.

I work with offender with drug and alcohol addictions in courts prisons and probation office.

Banana1979 · 04/01/2019 00:56

So many interesting professions..most of us are professionals

tumpymummy · 04/01/2019 01:20

So many varied jobs. I work 2 days a week in a school office. Enjoy it but the pay is really rubbish.

MattFreisCheekyDimples · 04/01/2019 01:21

I work in the arts and also run a charity that I founded. Rushed off my tits most of the time but have a great deal of professional autonomy and meet a lot of interesting people.

tumpymummy · 04/01/2019 01:21

I also can't believe the commute some of you have. I am lucky that the school where I work is 10 minutes walk away.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/01/2019 01:34

I write scientific software - half time, from home. I've been with the company over 30 years, I had quite a long commute for the first few years.

Thisisnotadriveby · 04/01/2019 04:02

Factory worker.... not a dream job by any stretch. Sad

RangerLady · 04/01/2019 04:08

Finished a contract just before I had my baby so I'm actually job hunting now, but my career is environmental education. Taking children on school trips pond dipping, taking adults on bat walks and the like.

turnipsaretheonlyveg · 04/01/2019 04:11

I'm a trailing spouse and not working currently.
I was a specialist children's mental health social worker. At the moment I am volunteering for the juvenile court where I live and filling out endless paperwork so I can work again.

FoxFoxSierra · 04/01/2019 04:58

Behaviour support youth worker with looked after children. Sometimes I love it and sometimes I hate it but it is never boring

violetbunny · 04/01/2019 05:11

I work in a specialist area of marketing, for a consumer goods company. Really enjoy it, it's quite varied and I get to work across lots of different brands.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 04/01/2019 05:45

So many varied jobs on here. High end of the job market too, very interesting to read.

I’m just NHS admin in a hospital. Really bloody loving it though; spent 20 years as sahm and so thrilled to be offered a job! Have thrown myself into it and paying my manager back a million times for taking a chance on someone who hasn’t worked for such a long time.

Low pay, but dh a decent salary so doesn’t matter to us so much. Loving the job and life so much at the moment.

Lolodizzyone · 04/01/2019 05:46

Families Worker with the Church, absolutely love it :)

Lauren83 · 04/01/2019 05:47

I work in a private healthcare (IVF clinic) I did work as an area manager for 2 well known American menswear brands for 10 years before that.

CoconutGal · 04/01/2019 05:50

Mental health nurse in a medium secure unit. Love love love it!

Happydowninthemouth · 04/01/2019 05:57

Dental hygienist. 20mins walk to work. Self employed so flexible hours, but often full-time, 35-40hours a week. Days and hours off as I need to work round teenage kids. Perfect!

echt · 04/01/2019 06:05

FT English teacher in Australian secondary school. Lots of marking but none the OFTSED/lesson planning/data chasing bollocks. 20 minute drive each way, most of it next to the sea.

The commute is very important; when I came two Australia, I drew a circle on the map to indicate the limits I was willing to travel.

Intohellbutstayingstrong · 04/01/2019 06:13

Secondary school teacher here. Commute is short but I more than make up for that with stupidly long hours and ever increasing pressure for results. I used to love my job but can only just about tolerate it now.
