Your most bizarre claim to fame story

cheesenpickles · 03/01/2019 00:54

So, I haven't slept with MH or anybody remotely famous, but have plenty of bizarre claim to fame stories (of my own and family/friends).

My two faves are that Florence Welch ran over my foot with her bicycle and broke my toe. I don't think she realised but she was gigging back in the day and had cycled to the venue (where I worked). She jumped on her bike to push it out of the office and ride home and went straight over my foot, snapping my toe on my left foot.

My darling sil, who is quite the character was in the company of some top music people, drank too much wine at an album party, started dancing and launched her shoe accidentally in her vigour smacking old Sir BG right in the chops apparently. She then repeated said move at my wedding and smashed a load of wine glasses. She's a good 20 years my senior.

C'mon now spill.

These are a bit weak....

I chatted to Ella Eyre. My daughter was having a photo done with her and she motioned for me to join the picture and I said "no, it's ok, I'm just mum" and she was lovely, saying something like "no, not JUST mum" and said how her own mum accompanied her to all her events.

When I was in my early twenties, I worked for a historian who was writing books about the history of atomic weapons. I had to transpose and type up her notes (she was lovely but bloody hell it was dull!) I got mentioned in the credits in one of her books. Another time, I was on my knees sorting out some of her papers for a visitor (the papers were spread all over the floor). The visitor found me like that and was so thankful he sent me a gift of a silk scarf with a hand written thank you note. His name was Bertrand Goldschmidt and he was the last personal assistant to work for Marie Curie.

Minimamame · 03/01/2019 11:57

I looked after Tommy Hilfiger’s children in a summer camp in Nantucket. I served ice cream to Sandra Bullock and I met Steve Tyler at a bottle bank Wink (all in Nantucket).

Methyl · 03/01/2019 12:01

Almost walked smack bang into Tim Winton in the local bottle shop yesterday.

JustDanceAddict · 03/01/2019 12:13

Lol at Schnorbitz! I saw him and his comedian owner from a bus in London when I was in my teens.

WiddlinDiddlin · 03/01/2019 12:15

I've got some crackers.. so weak they are brilliant.

I've seen a hollyoaks actor naked...

I've eaten chips with Davros' daughter..

Been to multiple parties with Anna Friels brother (as in, he was there too, I didn't attend WITH him..). I'd say he's not overly keen on being AF's brother, or wasnt in the late 90s anyway!

Gave Mick Hucknall and his driver incorrect directions to Bacup...

Bounced around to NOFX with Dicky Barrett from the Mighty Mighty Bosstones until I realised who he was and scuttled off all shy at the thought of having bounced about at a gig with THE MIGHTIEST OF THE BOSSTONES... sofangirl

Shared a sneaky fag round the back of a venue with Anthony Heads wife (multiple times).

Oh and I work for someone who used to be on Channel 4 :) A lot.

ikltownofboothlehem · 03/01/2019 12:23

Ally McCoist bought me a vodka & lemonade in a club in Glasgow

I got 'the nod' (greeting) from Morrissey on a street in Manchester

I shared some jelly babies with the actress who played Betty Eagleton in Emmerdale (she likes the green ones)

I pointedly ignored Terry Christian in a bank in Manchester. I also pointedly ignored Dev from Corrie. Both were painfully trying to get attention from us plebs.

Sue Nichols passed me a tin from a shelf I couldn't reach.

Anyone want my autograph Grin

Thingsdogetbetter · 03/01/2019 12:24

Many years ago Pauline Black from The Selector called my dh a degenerate. Lol. She was right, but luckily he's calmed down a lot with age.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 03/01/2019 12:26

I met the hoff and was asked to look after his kids and those of a few other movie stars. Not in the uk. The rest is in the uk.

I've dated someone who is regularly on newsnight and has a film coming out about his life.

Thandie Newton lived down the road from me when I was little.

I went to school with George lamb, jj field (actor) Galen Ayers and a few other media types.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 03/01/2019 12:27

Oh wait Kirsty wark said I was gorgeous Grin

FreezerBird · 03/01/2019 12:29

John Torode (knob) rested his newspaper on my sisters head on a crowded tube.

I badly misread this and thought he'd rested his knob on your sister's head, which would have been very rude.

Slipperboots · 03/01/2019 12:32

Emma Thompson once walked past me, she had a shave head.

YouTheCat · 03/01/2019 12:36

I've served beer to many local celebs - Robson Green, Jimmy Nail, Tim Healey, etc.

I used to live on the same street as someone in the Bill.

My ex bil has been in the support band for many groups - Elvis Costello, Judas Priest (so many interesting tales of Rob Halford's antics). He partied with Ozzy Osborne in the 80s until Sharon turned up and turfed everyone out.

I've met a few sci-fi people at comic cons.

An ex-friend from uni is Robert Lindsay's cousin.

Magicpaintbrush · 03/01/2019 12:38

(What seems like a lifetime ago) I painted special effects contact lenses for Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom in The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring. And for Dr Evil in Austin Powers 2 grin Grin. I also printed lenses for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the movie The Beach.

Notageek · 03/01/2019 12:55

Urm ...

  • Got chatted up by Perry McCarthy (early Stig fromTG) in a bar in Portugal
  • Barged Jeremy Clarkson out of the way when he was dithering at the top of an escalator (many moons ago)
  • Hubby has played golf with Brian McFadden a couple of times, once when I was walking round with him ...he’s got the gift of the gab !
Steppedonalego · 03/01/2019 12:56

The late and wonderful Eric Morecambe asked me if I was "eating too much new bread"- we were standing in a greengrocer's queue and I was 8 months pregnant.

Saywhat31 · 03/01/2019 13:05

My eldest daughter is Anthony Hopkins, Great niece.

My Great Great Grandmother and the minogue's sisters Great Grandmother were sisters.

My husband cooked for Manchester United's chef last year and as a result has been asked to do a private dinner for the squad this spring at a private hotel close to our home.

Love reading these stories!

alansleftfoot · 03/01/2019 13:08

Asked Alan Shearer if he wanted a 'screw' of black pepper (one of those massive pepper mills)

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes · 03/01/2019 13:08

Say I read that as your eldest daughter is Anthony Hopkins

YouBetterWORK · 03/01/2019 13:13

Lifecanbeabeach2, agree with pp I donated too and thought of that advert. She has such a beautiful smile.

Not random but I had a very small speaking role in bbc kids drama once, which means I am on IMDB (under my maiden name). 'I'm on IMDB' is a good thing to file under "facts about you" when doing one of those ice breaking crap exercises.

Some corrie actor was in our student nightclub once, can't remember his name.

Firesuit · 03/01/2019 13:14

the green man was ‘flashing’, so the light for the traffic was red

I just want to reply that I was nearly run over by a car that went through a pedestrian crossing at speed when the green man was flashing, when I checked the light for the cars was not red when the green man was flashing.

I've just googled, and green man flashing means pedestrians should not start to cross, and cars have a flashing amber light which means they are allowed to go if the pedestrians have finished crossing.

(As I ran towards/onto the crossing at high speed, I was possibly in the wrong, but the driver was as well, as he went at full speed past stopped cars in other lanes, so wouldn't have seen or been able to stop for someone still crossing slowly.)

MorningsEleven · 03/01/2019 13:16

I used to live near Holyrood Palace and once drove past Princess Anne's cavalcade.

ikltownofboothlehem · 03/01/2019 13:16

Ooh. And I can Six Degree myself with Kevin Bacon.

Tighnabruaich · 03/01/2019 13:17

I used to work in tv, so have got loads, but I'm also reluctant to seem to be showing off. Non-tv related though, I have been sick in the bathroom of the drummer from Slade.

MorningsEleven · 03/01/2019 13:18

I walked past Ronnie Corbett once. He was really, really short.

RaskolnikovsGarret · 03/01/2019 13:18

Not very interesting, but some examples below:

I was going into a shop with DD1 in a pushchair, and Jamie Oliver, who was ahead of me, let the door slam in my face.

Jools Oliver (in a random incident) told me how uncreative she was; and the following week launched her Mothercare children’s clothing range.

(Btw I have nothing against the Olivers - I don’t know them, but am sure they’re lovely!)

Bob Hoskins (rip) helped me up when I fell over at 8 months’ pregnant. He was such a gent.

A Spice Girl’s 4 year old (at the time) daughter bit DD2’s bottom.

Ben Elton attended DD1’s birthday party - didn’t recognise him for hours until he left.
