Your most bizarre claim to fame story

So, I haven't slept with MH or anybody remotely famous, but have plenty of bizarre claim to fame stories (of my own and family/friends).

My two faves are that Florence Welch ran over my foot with her bicycle and broke my toe. I don't think she realised but she was gigging back in the day and had cycled to the venue (where I worked). She jumped on her bike to push it out of the office and ride home and went straight over my foot, snapping my toe on my left foot.

My darling sil, who is quite the character was in the company of some top music people, drank too much wine at an album party, started dancing and launched her shoe accidentally in her vigour smacking old Sir BG right in the chops apparently. She then repeated said move at my wedding and smashed a load of wine glasses. She's a good 20 years my senior.

C'mon now spill.

Sat one chair over from Phil Collins in the Concorde room at Heathrow for 2 hours without realising until after we left.

In that same visit Jackie Collins was also there waiting for special services to take her to her flight, sat with fastened up coat the whole time and huge sunglasses on covering half her face.

Matt Smith is not actually a Dr.

The one I know is. At least he better be or he'll be arrested one of these days as he does surgery on people.

Chickenwings85 · 03/01/2019 18:51

@curlykaren - I have become friends with Angie Best through George beyond the grave! I have something which he signed not to me or anyone I know, I managed to get in touch with Angie to ask her about it and we've been friends ever since - she is a remarkable women with so much love and care for people. Calum is very much the same way now.

My old friends DF was a driver for the Krays too, they were always around his house when he was small. His DF was pretty scary at times, but great fun when he'd had a few drinks. I loved his DM though, a real stereotypical gangster moll in leopardskin & furs, she was such a character

I once shared a train carriage with Greta Scaatchi (sp?). It was rather empty and I had to move away because she was having an extremely loud irritatingly luvvie phone call with someone and my daggers looks weren't having the desired effect.

And my 'almost run over by' incident was Simon Bates outside Madame Tussauds.

My daughter's roommate's cousin's bandmate dumped Adele. Too many apostrophes.

I worked in a shop in South Kensington, we used to get a lot of celebs. This was years ago. Sharron Davies (muscular calves), Nigel Havers (debonair - a bit up himself), Sting (cool) Nick Heywood (very friendly, used to come in a lot), Anita Harris (stunning, elegant, smiley), Tom Baker (used to be a regular, mad as a box of frogs. Not much acting required in Dr Who, but lovely.) And more.

Before that I had a Saturday job in a shop in the Strand - again, lots of famous people, some of which are probably not known by younger peeps but were big stars of film and tv in their day - Richard Harris (bought a card with ET on it, wore what looked like chefs checked trousers), Sir Robin Day (very rude to a colleague), Elaine Stritch (gravelly voiced, small lap dog with her. Used to see her a lot, she used to live in the Savoy.)

I used to live next door to a Corrie star. She is no longer in it but has a film career before hand and still pops up in some tv programmes. I was taught at school by a very famous actress.

A classmate at school's brother was in Spandau Ballet (Steve Norman)

I used to see Diana, Princess of Wales in High St Kensington a lot. Attractive but not as attractive as her photos. Very photogenic.

Other regular sitings in High Street Kensington: Twiggy, Dave Allen, Michael Winner, Anneka Rice (amazing figure), Frankie Howerd.

I once saw Michael Winner with Jeremy Irons in the M & S in High St Ken. You couldn't miss him. As soon as he got in the door he shouted for the manager in that loud fruity voice. He said he wanted clothes for JI for a film. JI looked embarrassed.

I had lunch with Richard Coles from the Communards before he was a vicar.

I made a cup of coffee for and had a chat with Keith Allen. He was perfectly nice and quite interesting actually.

I was introduced to Alan Bates (swoon).

I had lunch at the Ivy and Melvyn Bragg and Alan Coren were at the next table and we all said hello and exchanged pleasantries (I was with my boss and one of his clients who knew them well).

I was paying for tickets at Sadlers Wells theatre box office and I dropped some money on the floor. Dudley Sutton was behind me and picked it up and tapped me on the shoulder and handed it back.

Barry Manilow and 3 of his people walked past me at LAX airport.

I was on the same flight as Gregory Peck from LA to Seattle (this one is definitely the most exciting).

My secretarial studies teacher at high school was an ex girlfriend of Marti Pellow

Jarvis Cocker gave me a can of Lowenbrau from his rider at Liverpool Uni.
Tony Wilson do Factory / Granada Reports used to come into a restaurant that I worked in . Always left a snotty hanky on the plate.
Had to deal with Lenny Henry sending his meal back as he didn’t like the chorizo. He pronounced it choritzo and was an arse.

Paloma faith sat next to me in a nail salon. She was very very tiny probably a size 2.

cheesenpickles · 03/01/2019 19:20

I used to work at a venue (mention in 1st post) and Adele used to practice there in her pre-US fame. My mate was her session drummer sometimes and we'd see her wandering around the Elephant & Castle, in space buns sometimes gnawing a lollipop.

Shameless placemarking

I helped Craig Charles when I did customer services for a bank and he couldn’t get hold of his usual person. I ID’d him and everything.
Dp’s Late aunt’s dp used to own or run a bar/club frequented by the krays and Barbara Windsor et al. I can imagine his aunt being extremely glam.

Natsku · 03/01/2019 19:34

I gatecrashed a party in London, it was Alan Cumming's party. Got free samples of his toiletries and we chatted with him for a little bit. My friend did his impression of Boris from Goldeneye...

I was asked to go on Good Morning Britain, they were going to fly me over and everything (I live abroad) but then some bigger news happened so I didn't go. Also got asked to do a skype interview with RT but we couldn't get the skype to work.

Escorting Archbishop Tutu from his hotel to the Washington National Cathedral on NYE 1999 in a white stretch limo. He was mortified as the ostentatious vehicle. Lovely man.

ElsaMars · 03/01/2019 19:38

When I was in my late teens, Jamie Cullum was a friend of my boyfriend, so we attended the same BBQ. He wasn't famous then, he was friendly and nice and he spent his weekends getting paid to play piano in a posh bar (the getting paid for it bit blew my mind at that age, he was obviously quite good at it)

HomeEdRocks18 · 03/01/2019 19:42

I turned down a dinner offer from Dennis Quaid

I’ve got another one, my dd worked for a specialist head lice clearance service, and did the head of a male pop star/ reality tv personality ‘ who really loves his kids!’
He didn’t have head lice.

My old teacher at junior school 40+ years ago was the sister of Peter Gabriel.
