That if you were born in 1997 you were not a 90's kid

Just as the title says really. They would have only been 3 by the year 2000. They are a 00's kid, right?

My cut off for anyone claiming they are a child of the decade they were born in is 19X3 maybe 19X4 at a push and even then most of their childhood would have been spent in the next decade

I was born 78 but I prefer music and stuff from 60s/70s
I grew up in the 80s but don't use today at all with that period, can't even remember it..

ScandiGirl10 · 02/01/2019 23:20

93 - some of my best memories are of the late 90s. I think it’s easy for me to distinguish as we moved to the other end of the country in 2000. Early 00’s a bit of blur that I can’t really attach much too, then late 00’s definitely associate with teen years.

ThePants999 · 02/01/2019 23:32

Ridiculous for anyone born in the second half - hell, even the last two thirds - of a decade, to consider themselves a child of that decade. You're a child of the decade that most of your childhood memories are from - and, hint, if you were 3 when the decade ended, it ain't that decade.

MonicaGellerHyphenBing · 02/01/2019 23:58

I was born in 1990 and consider myself a 90s kid, I have so many fond memories of the late 90s.

Absentwomen · 02/01/2019 23:58

Born 68, 70s kid and 80s teenager/raving to new romantics.

I understood the PP straightaway with regards to standing on an escalator/stepping on a farm/crossing the road.

Public service announcements were brought to us by the COI (Central Office of Information)

SleepingStandingUp · 03/01/2019 00:02

Born 82 but consider myself a 90's child really. I can't remember much about being under 8, didn't lick my own clothes, music to listen to or telly to watch. The only exception is I'm definately an 80's movie kid

BlackeyedGruesome · 03/01/2019 00:12

Yep, scared of getting stuck in a refrigerator for the same reasons.

BlackeyedGruesome · 03/01/2019 00:17

Think I may have solved why I am slightly scared of escalators too. Grin

CesiraAndEnrico · 03/01/2019 00:57

For those wondering why kids of the 70s might end up farm/escalator phobic

There were some interesting creative choices made for safety films intended to be shown in primary schools back in the day.

I think I was 9 when we were all frog marched into the assembly hall, the massive telly on legs was wheeled in, the big curtains drawn so we were in the dark.

I thought it was a special occasion and we were getting some unexpected Basil Brush.

But no... it was half an hour of

FangTasticBeast · 03/01/2019 01:05

78 so an 80s child but the 90s were my favourite!

FangTasticBeast · 03/01/2019 01:06

And yeah. The safety films 😫

OhTheRoses · 03/01/2019 01:09

Oh easy I was born 60 and was a child of the 60s/70s. DC in 94 (just) abd 98. DS is a child of the 90s, naughties and tenties; DD a chld of the noughties and tenties. Both gen z.

Monty27 · 03/01/2019 01:09

What about war babies then, this century and last? And before, probably sadly next too. Meh

YerAuntFanny · 03/01/2019 01:15

YANBU.

I was born in 1986 but consider myself a 90's child/Noughties teen because this is where my memories are although I guess I probably do remember something of the late 80's it's not a time I associate anything in particular with.

I absolutely love 80's music though :o

trancepants · 03/01/2019 01:38

Born 78. I'm a child of the 80s/teen of the 90s.

MadisonAvenue · 03/01/2019 01:44

I was born in 1969, I was a child of the 70s and an 80s teen.

I got the farm and escalator comment too. I’m still a bit iffy about escalators.

Lifecanbeabeach2 · 03/01/2019 01:45

I was 1991 and I claim to be 90s/noughties kid ha

The4thSandersonSister · 03/01/2019 02:29

1968, and all my childhood memories are of the 70's, and my teen music influences 80's. My fashion influences were solidified in the 90's when I was in my twenties with a tweek here and there for relevance and changing body shape. Everything else is a work in progress and has no real nostalgia for me.

5SleepingLions · 03/01/2019 03:19

I was born in 77 so I consider myself to be an 80s child and a 90s teenager

Racecardriver · 03/01/2019 03:57

I was 94. The only reason I feel like a 90s kid is because I lived in a back water where everything takes five years to filter through (no joke, I visiting right now and there are people walking around with colourful hair! It’s like time travel).

Topseyt · 03/01/2019 04:03

I was born in 1966. So I have hardly any memory of being around in the sixties and would call myself a child of the seventies and early eighties.

MrsDaveGrohl78 · 03/01/2019 04:50

Born 78, class myself as a child of the 80s!

(Which is great as most of the classic rock I still listen to was from the 80s!)

Greenteandchives · 03/01/2019 10:19

Born mid 50s I am happy to be a child of the 60s and remember the Summer of Love with great fondness. Great music through the 60s and 70s with so much change and excitement.

howdyholdthedoody · 03/01/2019 10:25
  1. Definitely consider myself a 90's kid.
HighwayDragon1 · 03/01/2019 10:28

Born in the late 80's, definitely a 90's kid, and a 00's teenager. Basically growing up was EPIC!
