I can justify taking the best piece, can't I?

Yes you defo should! I love the skin of chicken and turkey, burnt roasties and the extra mince and mash left after I've made the shepherds pie lol x

SalmonLeBon · 02/01/2019 18:36

Why did anyone have to mention chicken skin?! Am going to have to roast a chicken just for the skin now. My in laws pick it off and leave it because 'its not healthy'. I have to sit on my hands to stop myself scarfing it off their plates. 🤣

TheRealJoseph · 02/01/2019 18:42

The chicken/turkey skin has to crispy, salty & hot.

TheRealJoseph · 02/01/2019 18:42

be

mumof2sarah · 02/01/2019 19:05

@SalmonLeBon I've added it to my shopping list for tomorrow ha ha x

FurryDogMother · 02/01/2019 19:13

Back when I was fatter and not low carbing the very best part of roast beef for me, as the cook, was a piece of soft white bread soaked in the meat juices towards the end of cooking. Ooo, I can taste it now. Marvellous stuff. Now, of course the best bit of crackling is the cook's! And the chicken skin, the crispy duck, the crunchy bits of cheese stuck to the side of the dish, etc. etc.

catsmother · 02/01/2019 19:14

Absolutely definitely the oysters from a chicken - or turkey for that matter! Plus the nicest roast potatoes and everything and anything else that I like the look of. Do I feel guilty? - hell no. Of course, my family could always spend almost every waking day thinking about what we're going to eat, go and buy it - after carefully and boringly budgeting, bloody well cook it, cleaning up as they go and so on. Then they too could also have the pick of the fare ...

PinkFluffyFairy · 02/01/2019 19:16

Check for poison in this house too.

Kids are like vultures when the meat comes out.

Have to divvy chicken skin up between us (gutted).

WeShouldOpenABar · 02/01/2019 19:22

Parsons nose mmmmm and I married dh solely cos he hates the fatty bits which are all the best bits so I get double chicken skin, crackling, bacon ends. We're like Jack spratt and his wife though I don't think I'm as fat as her.

Maelstrop · 02/01/2019 19:22

The end dried piece of roast beef joints. Am I weird?

trooth · 02/01/2019 19:24

Cooks perks for sure.

Others include eating the chicken skin, eating the chicken's oysters, eating the best bit of lamb skin, the crispiest bits of the roast potatoes, the crunchy bit off the stuffing. Basically whatever you want. I generally eat them in the kitchen so my hubby can't moan Grin

hipposarerad · 02/01/2019 19:27

Yes to all aforementioned cook's perks.

They are the reason it's best to dish up our if sight in the kitchen whilst everyone else is sat at the table.... Shhh Wink

TheRealJoseph · 02/01/2019 19:28

Oh yeah! aswell as the gravy pan with a slice of buttered bread.

hipposarerad · 02/01/2019 19:28

Out of sight obviously (it seems my fingers have put on a couple of extra Christmas lbs

LEDadjacent · 02/01/2019 19:31

Absolutely it is yours. Like the first pancake.

Nooo. It never turns out quite right but that's ok because I don't have to eat it.

Peachyk · 02/01/2019 19:34

The crusty end slixe of a freshly baked loaf slathered in butter Grin

BrightYellowDaffodil · 02/01/2019 21:25

Ooh, I quite forgot: the dripping with all the crispy burnt bits in. Spread on a piece of bread with a load of sea salt. A. May. Zing.

Jsmith99 · 02/01/2019 21:27

Chef gets the chicken oysters, although he is so lovely he will usually offer me one Smile

pineapplebryanbrown · 02/01/2019 21:36

I hate all the fatty bits of chicken and the skin.

I do however eat the majority of the crackling immediately before serving up. Survival of the fattest innit.

Loopytiles · 02/01/2019 21:38

Not technically cook’s perk, but she who goes to the shop for a french stick gets to tear off and eat the first bit on the way home.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 02/01/2019 21:52

Burnt ends are mine, as are the corner pieces of lasagne or brownie.

I have to fight my eldest for the burnt ends. She loses most of the time.

GreenLowe · 03/01/2019 17:32

I got about 3/4 of the crackling yesterday and it was the best I've made. Next time I'll have to pull the 'Crackling? What crackling?' trick so that I get all of it. Grin

Thank you to those who explained what chicken oysters are, and the picture makes it very clear. I think that the dogs have been eating those as I usually strip the remaining meat for them once the breast, wings and legs have been consumed. They'll have to share next time.

I'm going to keep a note of all these wonderful cook's perks so that I don't miss out on any more delicacies.

With a huge amount of (full fat) Houmous straight from the tub.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 03/01/2019 17:57

Nooo. It never turns out quite right but that's ok because I don't have to eat it. it never turns out right but it has a particular charm. Chef's treat, lots of lemon and sugar and eat while you're making the rest.

darkriver198868 · 03/01/2019 17:58

Ah the joys of living alone . I got all the skin and all the crackling!
