Tumble dryer Help

Sorry this is in AIBU but took me forever to figure out how to start a new thread and when I did it was already in this category.
So my question is, our tumble dryer just broke so looking for a new one. At the minute because of the layout of our kitchen wen have to open the door and put the hose out the back door when the dryer is on ( there is nowhere to put it with a vent in the wall) so the house gets cold. Been looking at condenser dryers but been told on the past that these are rubbish and take so long to dry clothes, is this true?
Does anybody have one and would recommend one? It's so cold when we put the dryer on and would love to just have it on and keep the back door shut!
Also I've tried the condenser boxes you can buy for normal dryers but they didn't work.
Thankyou

Samsung heat pump condensing dryer here - a bit more money, but much more energy efficient. Also have one of their 'add-wash' washing machines with the little door you can post items through even if the wash has started. Both machines work really well - you even get a bit of Schubert to tell you they've finished!

I have a condenser dryer and it’s great doesn’t take long to dry at all

TulipsInbloom1 · 01/01/2019 19:12

We have a Hotpoint 9kg Aquarius condenser. Its amazing. I put it on the same time as the washing machine (65min wash) and the dryer is always finished first.

It knows when the load is dry. It has an easy pull out water collection tub the same place a washing powder drawer goes on a washing machine.

Its really great.

ozymandiusking · 01/01/2019 19:13

Our Bosch condenser is excellent. Driers have improved enormously over the years. They are more efficient and cheaper to run.
The need to get rid of a hole in the wall letting cold in must be paramount!
Don't think twice about it buy one.

Ok so a couple of negatives there but mostly all for it? What time would people say quick? It usually takes around 45 min to an hour so 1.5 hour to 2.5 hours sounds long! X

My Beko takes less than an hour to dry and I always dry it really dry and put way too much in.

I don’t know the exact time, but my washer takes 1h18mins and the dryer is quicker than that!

Neverender · 01/01/2019 19:15

Dryer takes about an hr. I think I love it more than I love DH if I'm honest.

CatsForLife · 01/01/2019 19:19

Yes I would say an hour maximum. Usually less.

RelativePitch · 01/01/2019 19:20

When I babysat for my friend the other day she asked me to dry the sheets and towels once washing was finished in her very new Hotpoint condenser dryer and 1h 30 in they were nowhere near dry. I have vented and the same load would have been done in 45 minutes. But given that vented is such a problem for you, life might be easier and warmer with a condenser. Just factor in a bit more time.

Singlebutmarried · 01/01/2019 19:22

Beko here too.

Dries within an hour most times (longer for bedding)

Keep the filters clean and your laughing.

Butterflyhulk · 01/01/2019 19:29

Thankyou for all the replies, I think you have convinced me Grin and it seems a beko one is the most popular make? Will go have a nosey now and see what I can find

I also have a beko dryer that I love, dries a load in less than an hour (I've never timed it exactly). I also have a beko washing machine and can do an 8kg load at 40 degrees in 40 or 50 mins. I absolutely love it, my mothers washing machine takes hours to wash a load.

Notwiththeseknees · 01/01/2019 19:44

My Miele condenser dryer is really good, faster than my old Bosch non- condenser.
I've also bought an electric airing rack as a supplement as I get through masses of towels & bedding and they are cheap to run and I prefer not to run the dryer during the night.

This! Grin

DopeyDazy · 01/01/2019 21:11

All the Waves, I've got a White Knight gas one and its very quick and cheap to run. Hard to find someone to fix it now though if it goes wrong

TrentBridge · 01/01/2019 21:14

We just moved house and it has come with a normal tumble dryer (one with a pipe to the outside). In our old house we had a condenser dryer - it fitted more in and was quicker, plus I could use the water that it collected in the iron - I miss it!

DiaryofWimpyMum · 01/01/2019 21:17

I just bought a candy condenser and I love it. It takes around an hour to dry a load. I would definitely recommend it, best £200 spent

xmasbamechange · 01/01/2019 21:17

Everyone said this about about condensing dryers so I was so sceptical when I bought mine but it’s brilliant. It’s an undesit, cost like £150 and dries a load of my washing in roughly an hour and 15mins.

DeRigueurMortis · 01/01/2019 21:17

I have a Miele condenser and it's fab.

It uses water collected to allow you to do a steam cycle if you want, which is brilliant for freshening up clothes and getting out wrinkles from clothes have become really crumpled for some reason.

UhUhUhDennis · 01/01/2019 21:31

Wtf don't buy a beko! People will say they're "perfectly fine" only because they've never used a better brand. Beko are properly crap don't do it. But a decent condenser drier will be brilliant. We had had a Samsung in the past and currently have a Grundig. Both come with 5 year parts and labour guarentees which we thought was good. Both machines have been fab too.

Santaisfastasleepatlast · 01/01/2019 21:39

Had my Beko for nearly 5 years without a single problem and it's on daily.
Same as washing machine which is on 3 times a day every day.

Celebelly · 01/01/2019 21:46

Actually Which has quite a few Beko models as best buys, rated far above more expensive alternatives.

Celebelly · 01/01/2019 21:54

In fact, all the tested Grundig and Samsung models got a worse score than cheaper Beko models!

There's a £270 Beko model that's a Which Best Buy and has just been reviewed last month: the DTBC10001. Might be worth a look!

IHeartMarmiteToast · 01/01/2019 21:55

I heart my condenser dryer. We use it 3-4 timee a.week in winter. Got a bloody good deal at Currys as one leg had broken off. Just propped it up with a bit of plank in shed

QuitMoaning · 01/01/2019 21:57

We have a Miele heat pump which was pricey but awesome and cheaper to run than a condenser (although will take about 5 years to break even as more expensive to buy than a condenser)
