It's slim pickings in the Nordic fridge.

Looks fine but don't want to kill anyone.

Best before dates are irrelevant.
Lost faith in our judgement? Yes you can smell if something is truly rancid or see mould. But not everything that can make you unwell can be smelt or seen.

N0rdicStar · 01/01/2019 10:48

Why not ok if refrigerated, smells fresh and is cooked? What will cause illness?

I would if it looked and smelt ok

I go on look /smell mostly anyway and we don't get food poisoning

Bamchic · 01/01/2019 10:50

I ate our Christmas Eve leftovers last night. Not dead.

rightreckoner · 01/01/2019 10:51

That would be fine. Ham is so salty it lasts longer anyway. If it was chicken I’d say no but ham would be fine.

SingingTunelessly · 01/01/2019 10:51

I would eat it. We’re finishing our Christmas Eve cooked ham off this evening.

superram · 01/01/2019 10:51

You do know ham is preserved pork? Yes it is fine to eat.

I’m immunosuppressed. Not knowing this stuff could kill me!

Val87 · 01/01/2019 10:57

I wouldn’t. 3 days in the fridge would be the maximum for me.

N0rdicStar · 01/01/2019 10:58

None of us are, so what in preserved and refrigerated ham which is then cooked could make healthy adults ill?

OP posts:
MyDcAreMarvel · 01/01/2019 10:59

3-4 days so no.

donajimena · 01/01/2019 11:00

Foodborne pathogens have no taste or smell. Look at FSA guidance x

caesio · 01/01/2019 11:01

I ate the last of my ham which i cooked on the 23rd yesterday cold in a sandwich yesterday and it was yum.

Cured meat such as gammon/ham/bacon stored in the fridge keeps at least 2-3 weeks.

DerelictWreck · 01/01/2019 11:02

Oh god absolutely! I've just eaten some of ours. It's only been a week people! Cooked ham refrigerated will be fine.

SmilingGivesYouWrinkles · 01/01/2019 11:03

Covered and kept in the fridge? Good for 10 days I would think.

scottishdaisy · 01/01/2019 11:06

I would. But then again, I ate really really old smoked salmon which hadn't been opened a few months ago, on the assumption that they used to smoke stuff to take on boats with no refrigeration (didn't they?!). The outcome wasn't good. So maybe my advice isn't the best.

HoliestGoat · 01/01/2019 11:09

I wouldn't eat it 'raw' today but if it smelt ok I'd probably cook with it.

N0rdicStar · 01/01/2019 11:12

Looked up fp( very little uk advice) but all seemed to be killed by cooking.

Risking it- any recipe recommendations?

The link is correct.

Bigonesmallone3 · 01/01/2019 11:27

My DP had ham cooked on Xmas day yesterday, I wouldn't as pregnant and that was the cut off and I put the rest in the bin!

Cel982 · 01/01/2019 11:27

I ate cold Christmas ham yesterday, as did DS. We're both fine. Not that that's data, of course, but ham is pretty safe as meats go.

Divgirl2 · 01/01/2019 11:30

Recipe suggestion - treat yourself to some ham and egg fried rice (assuming you have the ingredients). It's lovely with ham (use less soy sauce, ham is salty).

N0rdicStar · 01/01/2019 11:33

Was thinking of fried rice.Smile Won’t invite mum for tea though.

Still none the wiser as to what causes the risk of illness in healthy non of adults after cooking.Confused
