Happy new year everyone!

What are you doing today to start off the new year in a positive way?

Yesterday I made bread with my 3dc so we are going to toast that for breakfast. I plan on making my own bread on a regular basis if it tastes ok.

We are also going for a walk and a play in our local NT place to blow out the cobwebs.

This afternoon, when the oldest dc go to their dad's, I will make soup as it's the only thing we all love that contains lots of nutrients and vegetables. I'll freeze it for when they come back home.

I'm starting as I mean to go on and will be continuing the general clear out I started in the autumn.

2019 is going to be a healthier, less cluttered year Smile

Half marathon in september and really planning proper training this time!

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 01/01/2019 08:33

we are going for a long walk to the seaside, also have made some scots broth.

Impicciona · 01/01/2019 08:35

We're doing a no frivolous spending year. We looked at outgoings and it's scary how much money just disappears with €20 here and there Shock

MisstoMrs · 01/01/2019 08:43

A walk to blow out the cobwebs for us too and then it’s dry January for me!

Magmatic80 · 01/01/2019 08:50

I have friends who live far away from me, in various countries, and I’m so lazy at properly writing to them. I’ve pledged to write real snail mail letters regularly to people I want to stay in touch with.

This^^

Also I am aiming to be in bed ready to sleep by 10 each night. Gotten into bad habits and end up going to bed at like, 1! Always tired hahaha

Chaosandmadness · 01/01/2019 08:53

Starting the 1p challenge, healthy eating and more exercise as from today. Also plan on reading more this year as I have a huge pile of unread books gathering dust

PerverseConverse · 01/01/2019 08:54

Oh yes, earlier nights too. I'm usually in bed by 9pm but since December its been 11pm as making craft stuff. Back to normal habits from today.

I’m stopping smoking. For good this time, which also means quitting alcohol. I manage to quit smoking easily but always go back to it if I have a drink.

PerverseConverse · 01/01/2019 08:55

@Chaosandmadness what's the 1p challenge?

OP posts:
Teatimeted · 01/01/2019 08:58

Taking my makeup off every night! I'm 40 this year so need to start taking care of my skin.

Chaosandmadness · 01/01/2019 08:59

You save 1p on the 1st January, 2p on the 2nd January and so on through the year. I'm terrible at saving money so thought this might be a good way to remind me to put money aside

Whatamuddleduck · 01/01/2019 08:59

I was aiming to be more positive to DP this year. Only to come down to find he hadn’t done the kitchen clean which is his job as I’m up with baby all night. I’d bloody do it if he said he wouldn’t. Wading through yesterday’s dishes really annoys me.

So plan B. I shall be more directive about what I’m doing this year. I will plan and do things that DD and I will enjoy and get on with the house and garden rather than continuing to believe DP when. He says he will do things. Which he never does and then acts the martyr.

Looking forward to enjoying a clean home and beautiful garden with my baby. Sod twat face and his daily mail sad face!

ILiveInSalemsLot · 01/01/2019 09:01

We re going for a walk and I’m making soup. I’d love to walk near a lovely beach but we re too far.
I’m also going to put my phone down more.

Chaosandmadness · 01/01/2019 09:01

Meant to add this chart. Explains it better Grin

More NT walking for us too this year. I’ve had very limited mobility for a couple of years now. Now no longer in pain, can walk more, need to celebrate this and try to drag DD12 out for regular walks!

DottyDotAgain · 01/01/2019 09:02

DP and I signed up to Chip last January, following a MN thread about changes for 2018 and it's one of the best things we ever did - we saved about £650 between us, which more than paid for this Christmas, so I would highly recommend starting a Chip account! We also tried the 1p challenge but didn't get past the end of January..! Chip's great because it does it for you Grin

Sarcelle · 01/01/2019 09:02

Do you stick the money in a jar?

coffeecow · 01/01/2019 09:04

I am breaking it up into a monthly challenge thing for myself. So January is to do Yoga with Adriene's 30 Day Yoga thing she does each year on YouTube. And not to spend any unnecessary money.

February I am going to work on getting my steps up each day. Other months still to be decided!

I find saying I will commit to something for a whole year makes me instantly want to quit! A month at a time seems more manageable for me but will hopefully help me form some better habits along the way.

Chaosandmadness · 01/01/2019 09:06

@Dotty I've not heard of Chip. Will look into it as I have a feeling I'm going to fail the 1p challenge before the end of the month Grin

Nicpem1982 · 01/01/2019 09:07

Im going to bake a cake or tray bake each weekend

Nt walking

Eat better and drink less alcohol - not a diet just less prepared junk on nights im too tired to cook

Also play more with dd

Kazplus2 · 01/01/2019 09:10

No more buying (single use plastic) bottles of water and always bringing my reusable coffee cup with me for my takeaway coffees.
Using local farm shop more regularly for veg.

ItsClemFandangoCanYouHearMe · 01/01/2019 09:18

I'm going to stop the takeaways and start cooking properly again. With 2 small children it's become a bad habit (for my finances and waistline).

troubleswillbeoutofsight · 01/01/2019 09:23

Stop alcohol for at least a month. Only eat non processed foods. The money saved will go towards my month trip to Israel next Christmas

ShutUpBaz · 01/01/2019 09:37

I start my new job on Saturday (fresh start in itself!) and I will get proper breaks so I will be able to sort my diet out and my weight should naturally come down. I get to eat lunch at lunchtime which will be a revelation!

Cutting out frivolous spending too. Its amazing how fast those odd spends add up!
