to take my baby to my docs appointment?

Silly question? My baby is 2 months old. First time mum so I'm learning the ropes. I have a docs appointment for some nerve pain in my shoulder. I don't have a pram but it's round the corner so was Going to carry baby in car seat and rake with me.

Ok thing To do? What if he starts screaming? Won't doctor be pissed off? Hmm...

I took my 8 month old to my smear. It was fine.

SkylarkMA · 31/12/2018 14:04

*take not rake...

Of course you can take them! Doctor will be used to screaming. Don’t worry. Hope your shoulder is better soon.

MrsBertBibby · 31/12/2018 14:05

Take him. Completely normal. Doc won't mind.

SkylarkMA · 31/12/2018 14:05

Ah I feel silly asking now... it's so hard when you live rurally and have nobody nearby to babysit for half an hour!

Bluebelltulip · 31/12/2018 14:05

Fairly normal thing to do especially while you are on maternity leave so therefore no childcare.

Gunpowder · 31/12/2018 14:06

BTW I’ve had to take all four of my DC to the doctor with me before when I was let down for childcare. I wouldn’t recommend it as it was hard to concentrate but it was fine. One baby is no probs at all!

SoyDora · 31/12/2018 14:06

Mine have been to many Dr’s appointments with me, what else would I do with them? DD1 had to come to weekly physio with me for 3 months when she was tiny!

Bobbiepin · 31/12/2018 14:06

Carrying the car seat won't help your shoulder!

SkylarkMA · 31/12/2018 14:08

I know @Bobbiepin but it's literally round the corner and I'll carry with other hand. I think it's actually the sling I've been using that's made an old shoulder injury worse... it's causing numbness in my hand though so definitely need to get it sorted!

I take my two children to pretty much everything as I have no childcare or family (all at least 5 hours away) and live rurally too, I think they are actually better behaved because of it!

Seaweed42 · 31/12/2018 14:12

It's fine to take the baby. The docs have screaming babies in their surgeries all the time. They won't mind a bit.

formerbabe · 31/12/2018 14:13

Yes definitely, it's fine. Mums do this all the time. The doctor won't be in the least bit surprised.

Bumblebee39 · 31/12/2018 14:14

Why do you not have a pram? Xx

SkylarkMA · 31/12/2018 14:18

@Bumblebee39 we don't need one. He's only 11lbs still (tiny when he was born) and we just use a sling to take him everywhere (friends think this is ridiculous lol). We've literally never needed a pram. Thought we may as well wait for the one we want in January sales :)

riotlady · 31/12/2018 14:19

Absolutely! I’m on maternity and always take my daughter to appointments as I have no other choice. My doctor saw me during pregnancy as well so is always happy to see baby and how she’s getting on

Bobbiepin · 31/12/2018 14:51

It might be better to carry the baby in the sling then pop her down in the car seat whilst you are beibg examined. It's really bad for your back to carry baby (however light) in the car seat for an extended length of time.

Bobbiepin · 31/12/2018 14:52

Sorry, carry him in the sling etc

CottonSock · 31/12/2018 14:55

I bet the sling has buggered your shoulder. I had the same.

youarenotkiddingme · 31/12/2018 14:55

I was going to suggest a sling if you used one!

Then I saw you think that caused the problem!

However it may actually be better if you can manage it as dr can see what sling is like and assess if that's likely to have caused the injury/ flared shoulder up.

You can take a blanket and lay baby on floor if needs be. They don't disappear off at this age 😂

WoahBaby · 31/12/2018 14:59

The sling we had was properly fitted but caused me awful shoulder pain OP. 11lbs is actually a fair weight to be lugging around too. Not having a go either, but it's nice for the baby to just be able to chill and lie flat, cosy etc when out and about. That's my slightly old fashioned opinion tho. I hope everything repairs soon and good luck getting a bargain pram!

AlmostAlwyn · 31/12/2018 15:16

Not having a pram is not nonsense! We hardly used ours either, and at 18 months it's still mainly used by my mother-in-law! I know you're being nice, but babies don't need to "chill and lie flat" :)

I took my baby to my 6 week post birth appointment at my gynaecologist, though my husband held him in the lobby while I actually went in. I think my doctor was a bit disappointed he didn't get to see the baby!

SaucyJack · 31/12/2018 15:19

“Not having a pram is not nonsense!“

It is if it’s causing you to need medical treatment.

Just get a pram, and then you probably won’t need to see a GP anyway.

elliejjtiny · 31/12/2018 15:20

I always took my dc to my appointments when they were little.

CandyCreeper · 31/12/2018 15:22

I take all 4 children to my appointments, they come everywhere with me. what do you think single parents with no help do??
