Dd16 is going to a New Year’s Eve party (a non family friend one) for the first time. It goes from 9-2 but I can’t remember going out with friends on New Years, it was always a family thing so just wondering if times have changed.

I have 4 teens. The two elder ones are doing their own thing . DS1 I think is spending it with friends and his girlfriend and ds2 is going to a house party with friends. I don't expect them to stay in with us.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 31/12/2018 10:42

I'm over 50 and from a teenager always went out with friends on NYE, so I don't think it's a new thing.

Taffeta · 31/12/2018 10:44

DS15 was invited to a friend’s party that has since been cancelled as so many couldn’t go as had to attend do’s with their families instead.

So DS is coming to a party with us & his younger sister, much to his chagrin.

cato75 · 31/12/2018 10:45

DD16 having a sleepover at friends house. Think they are planning to watch Bird Box, the cheery lot.

HarryTheSteppenwolf · 31/12/2018 10:52

My 16-year-old daughter is also going to a friend's party. Fortunately, she's staying over so I won't have to drive out to collect her at 2 am.

When I was a teenager my parents always went out on new year's eve and then brought their fag-stinking, pissed-up friends home for a few more drinks and lots of shouting. I would go out to a party if I had an invitation, but they were always awful (I didn't like drunks even then; I absolutely hate them with every fibre of my being now). Ever since I managed to escape the family home I've avoided going anywhere on NYE, but I'm happy for my kids to go out to parties if they enjoy them.

Yulebealrite · 31/12/2018 11:00

Xmas was always family and nye was always for friends.

Dd is going to a friend's. Ds hasn't committed to anything yet but I've said he can have a couple of friends round if he wants as we are going to a local party. He's uhhming and ahhing at the moment and may end up coming with us for a bit.

Sarahandduck18 · 31/12/2018 11:03

Same as every other night.

Staying in, online.

Jamiefraserskilt · 31/12/2018 11:04

Two teens both plan to game with mates tonight.
Mdh and I will watch fireworks and a film which he will nod off and miss half of and I will wish my life was more exciting like nye every year.

grumiosmum · 31/12/2018 11:06

Each going to parties at different mates' houses.

strawberryalarmclock · 31/12/2018 11:09

I really feel for my 17 yr old dd, all her friends are off out, they're mostly already 18 or have fake id!
She's very welcome at the friends house we are going to but I had dc before my friends so she'll be the only teen Sad
She's decided to go to my parents house for the night, they'll treat her like royalty so hopefully she'll have a lovely evening!

Starlight90 · 31/12/2018 13:07

DD16 going to a party a mile from home.
DD14 staying home with ys and eating a chinese.

Lovely!

MintyCedric · 31/12/2018 14:33

14yo DD has a mate coming for a sleepover. We'll be having Chinese and then I imagine they'll do their own thing while I binge watch cheesy NYE telly by myself, until they materialise just before midnight for their allocated half a glass of prosecco each!

Crocky · 31/12/2018 14:39

14 yo having a sleepover at a friends. They will be getting dressed up and eating too much. 18 yo is working all night.

LoniceraJaponica · 31/12/2018 14:47

DD (18) is going to a friend's for a small NYE gathering.

FloofyDoof · 31/12/2018 17:14

Dd18 is working in a pub, DS19, is staying in, having a Chinese takeaway with me and probably spending the evening online with his mates.

FloofyDoof · 31/12/2018 19:07

Spoke too soon, DS is now going out with his mates, so it's just me and the cat, and the mountain of Chinese food that I ordered earlier. DD will undoubtedly demolish DS's share when she gets home from work at whatever time that may be.

anniehm · 31/12/2018 19:11

My teens invited our friends over (they are good friends with their kids) and told us afterwards! So their friends are coming here. Just waiting for people to arrive. Kids are young adults though.

Rassy · 31/12/2018 19:15

DD19 has friends round for drinks and then they are going out to an outdoor organised event. DD15 is going to a small gathering at a friend's house. Taxi is booked for her and other friends to return home at 1.45am Shock. I will be staying up and not drinking, so I can drive if needs be!

TheEgyptianKing · 31/12/2018 19:19

DS15 has just left to go to a party and DH is picking him and his friend up at 12.30.

DD, DH & I are getting an Indian takeaway and watch a film.

Crudd · 31/12/2018 19:27

I always went out with friends for NYE as a teen. Was the norm.

I8toys · 31/12/2018 19:30

We've just come back from Athens so we're doing nothing but next year could organise a teen party - sounds great!!

VioletCharlotte · 31/12/2018 19:34

DS1, 19, has gone to stay with some uni friends and go out in the town they live. DS2, 17, is going to a party locally.

I certainly never stayed in with my family on NYE. My teenage self would have been horrified!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 31/12/2018 19:36

Ds18 at home with us. (Gaming though)

BoardingSchoolMater · 31/12/2018 19:37

16 yo has trogged off to a party 200 miles from home (strangely, he found it relatively easy to get his act together for this event, including finding a sleeping bag in the attic).

14 yo has gone to a local sleepover. It was supposed to be here, but they wanted to have it at a bigger house, so have decamped Confused.

So I am on my own with a bag of Kettle Chips.

cptartapp · 31/12/2018 19:41

My teens are heading out shortly to watch the fireworks with us. We're in Copenhagen!
