Picnics on the dog beach...

So there are two beaches side by side. One has a dog ban. The other one doesn't. The no dog beach is nicer and bigger as it should be. Right now both have free parking and are both easily accessible down ramps. They are very similar.

I let my dog off the lead as it's far from the road and he's fine with other dogs. It's usually a fab walk.

Today there's a family with toddlers down there, and a tent. And a barbecue and fecking glasses of wine. On the dog beach. So ddog stayed on the lead because the bbq is on the floor and I'm not risking the potential consequence!!!

If I was on my own I might have made my feelings clear but I had the dds with me I didn't.

I wouldn't walk him down there in summer.

Aibu to think this is a bit out of order? Happy to be told aibu

Oh OP, the last post does you no favours. The consensus is that YABU. There's a dog-only area near to me; people hire the ground to run their dogs in isolation, to a tune of £20 per session, you would be well within your rights to complain about a human picnic there, but anywhere else would be unreasonable. Could you imagine the reverse of this thread?

Badadadum · 30/12/2018 18:05

YABU But I agree with the other posters - it's a beach that dogs are allowed on and so it is a beach for everyone - like our local park - dogs are allowed but so are kids bikes skaters etc. I can see your frustration if you struggle to keep your dog under control but then you'd be annoying other dog owners too if that was the case.

PoppyField · 30/12/2018 18:07

You ‘just’ want to walk your dog somewhere more freely? Aw you’re not asking for much are you?

Well it seems like you can’t have what you want because some other people like to enjoy this public space in their own way too. Which of course is very inconvenient of them. And this you find ‘just very annoying’.

If you didn’t start off with a huge sense of entitlement over this beach, brought on by the fact that since dogs are allowed on the beach you seem to think that magically gives you and your dog priority over other humans...then I doubt you would be as annoyed as you clearly are. It is your sense of entitlement that is the problem here, not the people wielding those outrageous wine glasses.

In conclusion, you do sound very much like ‘an arse’.

shpoot · 30/12/2018 18:08

Absolute yahs? For drinking wine at a picnic? You sound very arse like

Bigkingdom · 30/12/2018 18:09

Haha wr did similar on holiday in the summer (minus the BBQ).

Went out early, plotted on the beach. A while later there were loads of dogs running around and we realised we had plotted on the dog friendly side. My children had fun with a couple of the dogs though lol

AllTakenSoRubbishUsername · 30/12/2018 18:14

YABU if you can't stop your dog from going right over to them in their personal space and knocking their stuff over! If he's well behaved off the lead, go for it.

Disfordarkchocolate · 30/12/2018 18:22

I'd have been more annoyed about the BBQ, horrible antisocial stink to have in a shared area.

Badadadum · 30/12/2018 18:27

It's just fire - perfectly natural smell!

trooth · 30/12/2018 18:31

YABU.

agedknees · 30/12/2018 18:32

Could you not just have walked away from the family and then let your dog off his lead?

AloneLonelyLoner · 30/12/2018 18:35

Wow. YABU. You sound like an obnoxious class snob to boot.

brighteyeowl17 · 30/12/2018 18:38

So people are not allowed to enjoy the beach? I’m confused. Dogs are allowed on it. As are people. YABU!

Queenofthedrivensnow · 30/12/2018 18:54

I did state 'happy to be told aibu' Grin

You'll be happy tonight then OP, YABU Grin

Cantusethatname · 30/12/2018 19:16

oh god my labrador would not be able to control himself if a picnic was laid out. I shudder at the thought of this, the apologies, the compensation....

Whoknowswhocares · 30/12/2018 19:24

It's perfectly simple to give your dog plenty of freedom off lead.
The problem is, a huge number of dogs are not properly taught to recall from temptations and that means ey either a: run amok annoying everyone else or b: have to have that freedom curtailed

Trouble is, most people don't put in the time and effort required. Maybe they don't possess the skills, but then don't get the professional help to equip them. My 2 golden retrievers (greedy sods the pair of them,) wouldn't consider running up to people/dogs/picnics/whatever so could happily be off lead on your beach
Expecting other people to avoid areas so your badly behaved dog can run free is a complete cop out
