I'm on the mini pill (desogestrel - crescent brand) - so far so good, helped with my pmt and i'm less of an emotional mess now i'm on it. It's helped with my IBS symptoms. Though my skin and hair is definitely more oily.

Have you suffered any side effects on yours? If you've switched from one method to another, which did you switch to and why did you switch?

I’ve not heard of that one- is it the same as cerazette? I take noriday which was fine for a few years but I’m now horrendous water retention to the point where I can’t eat and breathe properly sometimes and it goes on for weeks. When I took cerazette I didn’t realise how ill it was making me.

Dottysmum18 · 30/12/2018 09:15

Implant since birth of ds in 2011 had one from 2011 and switched to another in 2014 removed that one in 2016 to concive periods reutned 28 days later concived dd 6 months later had another put in 4 weeks after her birth
No side effect, no periods , insertion and removal have been fine i love the implant and will continue with it now as im no longer interested in having childern

allyt113 · 30/12/2018 09:18

@brighteyeowl17, i'm honestly not sure, I think it's the cerelle one because I've heard they don't prescribe cerazette anymore, might be wrong though. but when I type up crescent the desogestrel pill shows up. Damn that sounds pretty dangerous, have you considered switching to another pill?

Abstinence.

rosie39forever · 30/12/2018 09:20

Mirena coil, best invention ever, no side effects, no periods, no remembering to take pills, love it.

allyt113 · 30/12/2018 09:20

@Dottysmum18, glad to hear the implant has worked for you, did it hurt when you were getting it inserted? I cry when I have a cannula inserted so I wonder if it's on the same level as that

OP posts:
LittleLionMansMummy · 30/12/2018 09:21

Vasectomy.

OddBoots · 30/12/2018 09:23

Mirena coil too, no stress, no periods. Dh has a vasectomy so I don't need the coil but it is a life changer after years of heavy periods so I am very happy to have it.

allyt113 · 30/12/2018 09:23

@rosie39forever, I've heard that people have often struggled with heavy periods when they've had the mirena coil inserted, it's fab you haven't had that! Did it hurt getting it inserted? Or was it just an uncomfortable sensation?

OP posts:
brighteyeowl17 · 30/12/2018 09:23

Does the coil hurt when it’s put in? Someone told me it was like having a coat hanger inserted Hmm.

I can only take the mini pill and have only ever been offered noriday. Every time I discuss side effects with my doctors he laughs and says oh well everything has side effects!

mrbob · 30/12/2018 09:25

Mirena. Paradise. No periods for YEARS and can have sex with wild abandon at all times safe in the knowledge it is as effective as sterilisation (well I would be able to if anyone would shag me)

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 30/12/2018 09:25

Also Mirena here. I plan to live the rest of my life not having periods (I’m 39).

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 30/12/2018 09:27

I've heard that people have often struggled with heavy periods when they've had the mirena coil inserted

They are probably getting it mixed up with a copper coil (that often makes periods heavier). Mirena is a hormonal coil.

Fairylea · 30/12/2018 09:27

I was on the one you’re on but it stopped my oestrogen (lowered it so much it stopped my body making any, as it doesn’t contain any unlike the combined pill) so unfortunately I went into menopausal like symptoms on it - hot flushes, vaginal dryness etc. I ended up having to go back on the combined pill which suits me better - all this was done under an endocrinologist who did a lot of blood tests etc, I do have other endocrine issues (Addison’s, thyroid, anaemia etc). I take the combined pill for 3
Months back to back and then have a break of 7 days so I don’t have a period every month for anaemia reasons.

KonekoBasu · 30/12/2018 09:30

Mirena. Yes, it hurt being put in, but I now have very light periods and no flooding so it was worth it.

rosie39forever · 30/12/2018 09:32

@allyt113, you tend to get heavier periods with the copper coil, the mirena contains localised progesterone like the mini pill so it generally lessens and in most cases stops periods, I found it uncomfortable to have it inserted but not painfull, just a couple of minutes of pressure, but over very quickly and drove home on my own, I had a few months of spotting but then periods disappeared. I had it for really heavy periods which left me dangerously anemic so it’s been a life saver for me.

OftenHangry · 30/12/2018 09:33

I have Cerazette so still being prescribed.
I agree with oilier skin and hair! Otherwise no side effects. And no babies, so 5*

Annandale · 30/12/2018 09:34

Vasectomy. I had no obvious side effects with the minipill but after I came off it realised it had killed my libido stone dead.

Graffitiqueen · 30/12/2018 09:48

Copper coil. Put it in and forget about if for 10 years. No side effects apart from slightly increased discharge, my periods didn’t get heavier.

GenerationSnowflake · 30/12/2018 09:53

curry

Coldilox · 30/12/2018 09:54

Lesbianism. Very effective.

Also have a mirena which I live as it has completely stopped my horrendous periods.

Chasingsquirrels · 30/12/2018 09:56

Over the years I've been on the pill, used condoms and now have a diaghphram - which I am very happy with.

DollyWilde · 30/12/2018 09:58

A combination of rhythm and condoms. Came off the pill 18 months ago as I suspected it was affecting my moods more than I was aware. 1/3 of the month we can be totally relaxed, 2/3 we either use condoms or finish in a non-PIV situation. Love being hormone free and will never use the pill again.

3boysandabump · 30/12/2018 10:03

I got pregnant despite taking the mini pill perfectly so won't be going down that route again.

I went for an implant this time. Had one pre dc and loved it mainly due to the no periods thing.
Been in a month and despite me bf my 4 month old I'm having a very light period though 😡 hoping this will be the only one.

ems137 · 30/12/2018 10:05

I'm not sure I can recommend the copper coil yet. I've only had it for 4 months and I think I want it removing. I've had very heavy periods that last 9 days but for a week before I also have really bad stomach cramps and sex is impossible. So basically for more that 50% of the month my period is causing me major problems.
