Snoring vs background noise... anyone else?

The sound of my DP snoring literally makes me toes curl and I can’t get to sleep if he’s snoring.

Yet any other noise, film, tv, music, rain I can fall asleep no bother. My DP says it’s weird like I choose to be annoyed by his snoring when actually I’m capable of sleeping and getting to sleep despite noise.

Anyone else like this?

I can’t stand it. I bought very good earplugs.

Claireshh · 29/12/2018 22:31

Thehop which ear plugs did you buy?

ShitOnItt · 29/12/2018 22:31

@thehop yes please do tell! I’ve nrver found they work.

It’s the repetition any tap tap or drip drip would be annoying.

EstoLargo · 29/12/2018 23:12

I am a (very loud) snorer and bought DH some Bose Sleepbuds - they are very dear (£229) but I do feel they have helped save our marriage as things were getting rather fraught beforehand. I could never bear the sound of my DF’s snoring when I lived at home - even when in a different room - so I do have every sympathy for DH and hoped they would help, which a month in they seem to have.

Wolfiefan · 29/12/2018 23:15

Kick
Hard
For me it’s the volume and also the way the noise varies that drives me crackers. Plus the reminder that he gets far more sleep than me. Every single night.

animallikeyou · 29/12/2018 23:16

We have bought a bed for our spare room so if Boyf is snoring like a freight train I can go in the other room and get some sleep.

TigerDroveAgain · 29/12/2018 23:18

I use pluggurz (sp?) earplugs. No need for electric ones

You definitely need something : it’s been a revelation!

YesImChickenShit · 29/12/2018 23:20

It's the stop start sound of the snoring that makes it difficult to sleep, it's not a constant level like rain or the radio in the background.

wheretoyougonow · 29/12/2018 23:24

Kick Hard - how lovely you are. I wonder if you would say this to a man whose wife snores Hmm

Wolfiefan · 29/12/2018 23:26

Honestly after having no sleep and the other half not getting any fucking sleep? Yes.
When DC were small I made sure he got sleep. Now? The favour isn’t returned.

madmum5811 · 29/12/2018 23:29

I flick his back, nudge his legs, shout that usually stops it. He does not wake up though.

TigerDroveAgain · 29/12/2018 23:30

Kick hard?

Am I reading a different thread?

DameSquashalot · 29/12/2018 23:30

DH's snoring drives me INSANE. I too can fall asleep in front of the TV, a loud TV etc. Earplugs haven't worked for me yet. Something needs to be sorted soon.

Heratnumber7 · 29/12/2018 23:30

Quick Q as I've been considering getting some ear plugs to muffle DH's snoring.
How do you make sure you wake up in the morning? I'd be worried about not hearing the alarm.

Sparklesocks · 29/12/2018 23:31

I think certain sounds are easy to sleep through and others cut through you, and snoring falls into the latter as it’s so loud and close to you (and often can change pattern so not a constant rhythm, which adds to the annoyance).

I struggle to fall asleep with snoring, or noises like a ticking clock, but I can easily drop off to the murmur of the TV.

I had some issues earlier this year with my neighbor who liked to watch TV full blast in the early hours of the morning. It was a difficult sound to block out as the constant changes of music/voice meant I couldn’t ignore it, the distance meant it was more like loud blasts of tinny bass rather than the gentle chatter on a TV in the same room. Sometimes it was loud enough that I recognised certain adverts! I started putting rain noises on my phone with earphones and I found I could fall asleep with that as it was a soothing, constant noise which drowned out the loud TV sounds.,

DameSquashalot · 29/12/2018 23:37

I've tried Pluggerz, but they didn't work for me.ighr try some white noise.

TigerDroveAgain · 29/12/2018 23:37

I’ve clicked re kick hard

Alarms : I use a light alarm so don’t need to listen. If I need a really aggressive alarm I would put something loud on my phone

Reaa · 29/12/2018 23:39

Does he snore more when lying on his side or his back?

Mine snores more laying on his back.
He is on his side right now and the gentle snoring noise has begun.

Will give him a gentle wobble, if it gets too loud, that's normally enough to stop the snoring, but not enough to wake him.

PickAChew · 29/12/2018 23:40

I give dh a kick. He ends up with a sore throat if he snores, so it's mutually beneficial.

Ear plugs don't work for me because they make my breathing and the sound of my blood moving so unbearably loud.

Wolfiefan · 29/12/2018 23:42

Nothing gentle wakes mine. Some nights I don’t sleep. So I kick. Can’t shout or I would wake the kids.

Excited101 · 29/12/2018 23:46

TOTALLY depends on the type of snoring. A gentle roll of a snore is one thing, a loud eruptive ‘surprise’ snore is another entirely!

scorcio5 · 29/12/2018 23:47

Another vote here for a white noise, I use a free app called rain, it was either that or divorce, the app was cheaper Grin

Teeandee · 29/12/2018 23:51

DPs snoring regularly keeps me awake as I just can't switch off from it and lay there for hours getting restless and frustrated. Luckily he works 5 nights a week so I don't have to put up with it often.

Strangely enough, I do find I need background noise to fall asleep.. such as podcasts or YouTube videos.

Like others have said it's the irregular volume and the stop/start of snoring that disturbs me I think.

blackteasplease · 29/12/2018 23:53

I used to find it was the variety of the noise. Never consistent in interval or volume. Awful.
