to not know how to get to friends house with a baby?

I'm not driving at the moment as I had an op on my wrist.

I have a 10 week old baby.

Meant to be going to friends tomorrow. Getting the train there, and she's picking me up the other end.

Taking baby in sling as have been told not to keep my fingers clenched for a long period. Even if I took the pram the seat attachment requires an isofix.

I've just realised this isn't possible without buying extra attachments etc to go in their car...

I can't go can I? Bummer :(

Does friend have to pick you up? Could you get a bus or a taxi for that part of the journey?

fourcorneredcircle · 29/12/2018 18:03

I thought all infant carriers could also be put in a car with the seat belt.

As for the pram thing, depends on how long you’d have to push the pram before the train. I’m sure there would be someone who would help you get the pram on to the train.

Loohoo · 29/12/2018 18:03

@MoaningSickness there's no bus. I could get a taxi but again wouldn't I need a car seat? Not sure how smart it would be getting in a taxi with baby in sling. If there was a crash I don't know that I could forgive myself...

Or could you go to a coffee shop near the train station rather than back to friends house?

Lemoneeza · 29/12/2018 18:04

Not unless your friend has a car seat or you take a taxi from the station to hers.

Guessing she can't come to you?

Cornettoninja · 29/12/2018 18:04

Take the pram and black cab (should be able to get the whole thing in the back without collapsing) or bus it?

Double check the car seat can’t be attached with belts, ours was isofix and belt fixed iirc.

MissClarke86 · 29/12/2018 18:04

What car seat is it? As someone else said, most are isofix OR seatbelt

MissClarke86 · 29/12/2018 18:04

Sorry that should read isofix AND seatbelt

Santaissleepingoffmincepies · 29/12/2018 18:05

Could you friend purchase the fittings before she meets you? Handy to have anyway.

mindutopia · 29/12/2018 18:05

Can someone drive you or can they come to you? Or do friends have children and a spare car seat? Otherwise book a taxi with a car seat, which is an expensive option, but if that’s your only choice.

Loohoo · 29/12/2018 18:05

@fourcorneredcircle ours requires an isofix (didn't realise this until we bought it but limited funds so can't buy another...).

It's more about pushing it as it's a fair walk between the bus stop I get off and the train station.

bridgetreilly · 29/12/2018 18:05

Oh, that is awkward. Is there anywhere within walking distance of the station that you could go with her? Or could friend just come to yours this time?

MoaningSickness · 29/12/2018 18:05

Some taxi firms have car seats on requestnif you book in advance. It is legal to have a child in a taxi on your lap (not in sling), but your comfort level with that may vary.

dementedpixie · 29/12/2018 18:06

Any black cabs? Then you could just keep baby in the pram. Can the cat seat not just buckle in to a normal seat? Which one is it?

Loohoo · 29/12/2018 18:06

@MissClarke86 it's a Joie I Size and was a gift to us from my dad. We didn't realise it was isofix only until we used it and were just so happy to have a decent seat

OP posts:
Loohoo · 29/12/2018 18:07

I'm going to see if any taxi companies have car seats...

dementedpixie · 29/12/2018 18:08

It is legal not to use a car seat on a taxi but depends how risk averse you are. The taxi should have isofix points too I think

CandyCreeper · 29/12/2018 18:09

couldnt you just push it with one hand? i normally push my pram with one hand as im always carrying bags/on the phone/holding other childs hand.

AmyDowdensLeftLeftShoe · 29/12/2018 18:10

Most baby car seats can be fixed with a seat belt in case you need to move it to a different car. So if you have a car seat take it, but also and very importantly download the instructions on your phone on how to secure it into a car using a seat belt.

Also there are taxi firms that have car seats for babies and small children. However you would need to ring them up now to tell them you need one.

So you can go but you just need a little more planning.

Loohoo · 29/12/2018 18:10

@dementedpixie wouldn't that mean taking a really heavy isofix base with me though?

@CandyCreeper it's got two handles rather than a bar so it's pretty much impossible..

OP posts:
CandyCreeper · 29/12/2018 18:12

Oh is see, that wouldnt be doable then really!

I would just go with the sling then but im fine with not using car seats in taxis. I get others arent though.

dementedpixie · 29/12/2018 18:12

Sorry didn't know it needed a base too

GreenTulips · 29/12/2018 18:12

Can your friend borrow a car seat?

dementedpixie · 29/12/2018 18:13

Of you do use a taxi without a car seat then the belt goes around just you and not you and the baby

Myshinynewname · 29/12/2018 18:14

Do any of your friends have a car seat you could borrow? Or your friend’s friends? I would lend one in these circumstances.
