To spend money on a diptque candle

Have any of you ever used one, are they worth the money, tired spending money on candles that don't work!

I find most candles are a bit rubbish. I lile a nice oil burner or wax melt though. Although i realise that doesn't really answer your question Grin

Bunbunbunny · 29/12/2018 14:33

What do mean by not working? What do you want from a candle & what have you tried?

Ilovewheelychairs · 29/12/2018 14:33

I love love love Diptyque candles. They're my very favourite for long lasting and not overpowering scents. My favourite is Baies. If I could afford it I'd buy one! I quite often ask for the votive sizes as gifts.

hiptobeasquare · 29/12/2018 14:35

I love the mimosa scent. I find it has a good scent throw and is (IMO) worth’s the money.

Mercurial123 · 29/12/2018 14:37

For me it's a no. I usually buy good quality essential oils and use an electric diffuser. It's so much cheaper. Three or four drops of oil is all you need for four hours.

Gingertam · 29/12/2018 14:37

They're amazing. Treat myself to a small one now and again. I never burn for longer than an hour at a time. Just enough for the wax to meet the sides. The scent lasts for ages. Problem is when you have bought Diptyque all other candles are rubbish in comparison.

Duchessofealing · 29/12/2018 14:37

I love them - love the feu de bois and the pomander at Christmas - my favourite make of candles and yes worth it

TheDHand · 29/12/2018 14:39

I love them as they have a strong enough scent to perfume a whole room when lit. I too adore the Baies one.

My only reservation is that they are prone to tunnelling (where the wick burns down in a little area in the centre, wasting loads of wax in the process). The only way to prevent it is to make sure the wax melts all the way across on the first burn. It can take absolutely ages to do this with a bigger one so I prefer the votive size.

violetgrey · 29/12/2018 14:41

They are very expensive but worth it. My favourite are Feu du Bois and Vetiver, both woody scents. Baies is also lovely. They also do small versions of the most popular scents so you could start with those before you commit to full size.
I also love True Grace candles that are slightly cheaper and have a goods throw.

hiptobeasquare · 29/12/2018 14:42

I just wanted to add that I got Yankee Candles Candy Cane Forest from Wilko for £4 and it is making my whole house smell lovely.

itwaseverthus · 29/12/2018 14:43

I adore Diptyque candles and room sprays. I couldn't justify the ££££ diffuser from there so bought this and put Diptyque Feu de Bois spray on it for the bedroom and another with 34 Blvd St Germain which is just gorgeous. www.amazon.co.uk/Bodi-Tek-Aroma-Stream-Mains-Operated/dp/B00653O5MK/ref=asc_df_B00653O5MK/?tag=bingshoppinga-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid={creative}&hvpos={adposition}&hvnetw=o&hvrand={random}&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=e&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl={devicemodel}&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4584070139013545&psc=1

Had to google this as never heard of them. At around £70/£80 a pop I would say if you literally have 'money to burn' then go for it if that's what you want.

I would imagine if a candle is waxy and has a wick then it will 'work' as a candle, but I imagine by work you mean fill your home with the overwhelming stench of some sort of artificial perfume.

From the reviews I read online I image they do work, as the reviewers seemed very happy with them.

namechanged0983 · 29/12/2018 14:45

Absolutely, my guilty pleasure - so much so I bought one for myself whilst doing Christmas shopping Grin. Baies is my favourite and I have it as in the form of a car diffuser too.

itwaseverthus · 29/12/2018 14:45

In case you didn't know, there was referral thread on the Christmas board with £10 off a £40 spend at Space NK. You could get your candles there slightly cheaper if you used this.

Jellybabie3 · 29/12/2018 14:46

£70 😱

BigusBumus · 29/12/2018 14:50

A few years ago I thought I must get a Diptych candle as you always see them on celebs coffee tables etc . So I did and was really underwhelmed. 😔 I prefer the White Company ones tbh.

EdWinchester · 29/12/2018 15:01

I love Diptyque. They last ages, so I don't think they're too expensive.

Plus, I re-use the lovely jars.

trojanpony · 29/12/2018 15:02

Yanbu, if you can afford it.

Some smell a bit weird imo. I always misread the label slightly on my favourite and can never remember the real name but somehow they always know what I mean when I ask for a big “babies”

SluggishSnail · 29/12/2018 15:03

Neom is a very fabulous candle brand - costs about half of Diptyque but the scent is as good and the burn time is really long. They sell it in John Lewis now :)

dementedma · 29/12/2018 15:05

Isle of Skye candles are lovely and a fraction of the price, but it's your money and if you can afford it Op, then go for it.

NotAColdWomanHenry · 29/12/2018 15:07

I once had a Figuier one and it was lovely. It actually gave off a beautiful scent even when not lit.

They are too expensive for me now but I see at the moment the standard size is £47 at John Lewis, not £70. I would if I had the money to spare.

I do have a couple of Scandinavisk, which are cheaper. Smell very intense and natural with some amazing scents.

purpleelk · 29/12/2018 15:08

Love love love them. This year, got a Miller Harris Etude de Rien from tk maxx from the bargain thread for £24 and it smells amazing. Like a log fire and something Christmassy but not like smoke (the dyptique feu de bois always make me slightly anxious like I forgot about an unattended open fire)

viques · 29/12/2018 15:08

I love them! I have a London one in my bathroom atm, it scents the whole of the top of he house. I got two special addition ones for Christmas , the packaging and the jars are so beautiful I get pleasure just from looking at them before they are even open. Then they smell gorgeous before they are lit, then the scent is amazing as they burn. Lots of layers of enjoyment, I know they are an indulgence but they are my indulgence.

Soontobe60 · 29/12/2018 15:10

I use candles from Aldi. They cost £4 each, the scents are not artificial and they look good too.
Why anyone would want to spend almost 17 times more on a candle that does exactly the same thing is beyond me! They must literally have money to burn 🔥🔥🔥

Todamhottoday · 29/12/2018 15:15

I like Bahoma candles, buy them in TKmaxx (instore around £36) £5.99

Have in the past had Diptyque and I do like a lot of the fragrances but cannot justify the cost now.

Cannot stand the Yankee Candles anymore they are just too sythetic, and the Pikenstifs christmas ones this year smell like toilet cleaner
