Have any of you ever used one, are they worth the money, tired spending money on candles that don't work!

Don't if you have a decent sized room. I bought one last year and you could barely smell it unless standing near it. We have high ceilings and a big room. My John Lewis candle sitting near it smelt stronger and it wasn't lit!!

Barginbasementbackdoor · 29/12/2018 15:18

Can I put a vote in for Jo Malone? I've been very pleasantly surprised. I think it was £45 and it's lasted for absolutely ages. The scent is just as strong now as when it was brand new. Yes, to what others have said about tunnelling, you do have to let them melt the whole surface but that's ok. Mine's been going a good 6 months now & still isn't finished so well worth it.

poppyseed2 · 29/12/2018 15:22

Love, love, love. They are expensive, so only have them as an occasional treat. DH got me a Figuier for Christmas which I can't wait to burn! For something more reasonable, I quite like White Company.

Bluelady · 29/12/2018 15:23

Aldi Jo Malone knock off candles are amazing - No 1 smells exactly like Lime, Basil and Mandarin. I'm a massive Dyptique fan, Baies is mt favourite too, but they're a very special treat.

coppercolouredtop · 29/12/2018 15:25

try jo malone or white company - much cheaper and work!

Purplecatshopaholic · 29/12/2018 15:27

I am not big on candles - but I have heard of diptyque so googled them after reading this post. They are £47 from John Lewis!! Its a candle!! Each to their own obvs, and its your money to spend as you will, but wow, thats a lot of money for a candle (and the bloomin things burn down so you have to buy another one!). Also agree it is horses for courses and the amount I spend on shoes might give some people a heart attack too....

wildbhoysmama · 29/12/2018 15:33

I like Neom and White Company but the very best candle EVER is the St Eval Candle company's Bay & Rosemary. An amazing throw and even unlit our rooms with high ceilings have a wonderful scent. They're made small scale, using local ingredients with local Labour within a family run.business in a tiny place in Cornwall. They're very affordable and I bulk order once a year to get free delivery. Absolutely amazing.

purpleelk · 29/12/2018 15:42

“Why anyone would want to spend almost 17 times more on a candle that does exactly the same thing is beyond me!”

Do you spend £4 on a £75 Chanel knock off and berate the people who pay for the original the same way?

Because it clearly isn’t the same smell for some of us and we can smell the difference.

If you can’t tell the difference, you’re the one burning your £4.

LadyDeadpool · 29/12/2018 16:07

I like Home Bargains candles - £4 for a big jar and the gingerbread one smells amazing it's really strong and lovely and lasts for ages. I've vanilla sugar cookie and cinnamon apple too and they're just as nice. Otherwise its an electric diffuser and oils my favourite being coffee.

Whataboutbobbo · 29/12/2018 16:13

Blimey! Thats expensive. I love candles. I thought I was spending lots on Yankees lol. May save up for one.

namechanged0983 · 29/12/2018 16:24

@purpleelk took the words right from my mouth Smile Yankee candles make me want to hurl. So synthetic.

HJWT · 29/12/2018 16:34

Bath and Body works candles are amazing... better than Yankee Candle BUT you can only get them in america dubai etc.... join Bath and Body works UK on fb people bring them back and sell them for around £23 for a large 3 wick.... so good.

Beerflavourednipples · 29/12/2018 16:40

Diptyque Baies is officially The Best Candle Ever. Its so strong and so scented, I just love it. I also like Feu de Bois.

I tend to just get them as a treat when I get JL vouchers but they shit all over cheap candles (which I also buy as well).

Sugarplumfairy65 · 29/12/2018 16:55

All candles will tunnel if you don't achieve a full melt pool on the first burn.

I’ve bought Diptique in the past but wouldn’t buy another.

Bluelady · 29/12/2018 19:42

Good call on JL vouchers, that's mine spent now. Baies, here I come.

NaturalBornWoman · 29/12/2018 19:46

I've found them sooty. Le Labo are much nicer.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/12/2018 19:53

I have been a long time Yankee fan but my most recent (bought from the YC shop) smells just of wax Sad so I'm off them now .

I was looking at The White Company and Neom before Christmas but I didn't buy any

coppercolouredtop · 29/12/2018 21:05

White co cassis is the nicest scent ever.

BestZebbie · 29/12/2018 21:26

I find they tunnel and lose scent (no lid) more than I'm happy with fur such an expensive candle - Ive also had off-centre wick that soots the glass. For £40, stick to Jo Malone.

SilverySurfer · 29/12/2018 21:29

Why don't you try making your own using your favourite essential oils? I can't stand candles that overwhelm the room with a scent and making my own means I can avoid that.

FrowningFlamingo · 29/12/2018 21:36

Funny someone mentioned the Mimosa one, that's one I really couldn't smell once it was lit, I love tuberose and baies though. I think it's worth spending more for a good quality candle, I find Neom to be the best for price v quality. I want to say value but for something you literally burn expensively I'm not sure it's quite the right word!!
Best cheaper option scent wise is woodwick imo but the I find the noisy crackle quite annoying.

applepineapple · 29/12/2018 21:46

Overose candles are gorgeous, I lit 'Nudesse' earlier and the scent filled my whole flat Smile
