DD has lost her keys, again.....

DD was out last night and lost her house keys (they fell through a hole in her new bag). She was out locally, in a pub and then club. There was no ID with the keys, so I don't think it's necessary to change the locks. I did that before when s.he lost her bag with keys and ID together. Cost me over €100! What would you do in this situation?

If she is old enough to go out at night and loose her keys she is old enough to pay for the consequences.

AJPTaylor · 29/12/2018 08:40

I wouldn't change the locks for that.

BiteyShark · 29/12/2018 08:42

I wouldn't risk it. Get the locks changed.

Make your DD pay and then maybe she will be more careful next time.

BillywilliamV · 29/12/2018 08:42

Key safe in garden/ porch?

CherryPavlova · 29/12/2018 08:43

These things happen. Are they not insured?

Birdie6 · 29/12/2018 08:45

Old enough to go out pubbing....old enough to pay for her own keys.

tittietinsel · 29/12/2018 08:45

Don't give her anymore keys. She has to be in before you go to bed.

TheFairyCaravan · 29/12/2018 08:47

I'd get her to pay for the replacement keys but when our adult kids go out we leave the keys in a safe place at home so they don't have to worry about losing them. Could you do that?

Thewifipasswordis · 29/12/2018 08:47

She needs to get a lanyard and loop them inside the bag. Then hope she never loses her bag again next.

weeblueberry · 29/12/2018 08:47

Yep. Key lock box in the garden so she doesn’t need to take her house keys out with her.

HildegardCrowe · 29/12/2018 08:50

Good idea about the lanyard and safe place. She's at uni so just back for the hols! Will def ask her to pay fof replacement keys.

Why would the locks need changing if no address on them?

Complete over kill.

However if you step in every time your dd loses something, no wonder she doesn’t take care

Let her sort out new keys herself.

BiteyShark · 29/12/2018 08:56

Depends whether you think there really was no ID or whether anyone noticed her 'lose them'. Given your house insurance is invalid if there is no sign of a forced entry e.g. someone used keys I certainly wouldn't risk it for a few pounds.

LostInShoebiz · 29/12/2018 09:00

We have a three strikes (which you pay for) then you’re out policy. No keys for three months and the keyless person has to fit in with the rest of the family so back early, no coming and going as they please. It happened once for two weeks and we’ve had no issues since.

HildegardCrowe · 29/12/2018 09:05

Good idea Lost. I take it you don't bother to change locks if no ID with keys?

OP posts:
Believeitornot · 29/12/2018 09:06

I wouldn’t put any id on keys for that very reason.

If I lost my whole bag then yes I’d change. But not a set of keys alone.

diddl · 29/12/2018 09:08

Her new bag has a hole in it???

Well whatever you decide to do-your daughter needs to pay.

Weepingwillows12 · 29/12/2018 09:08

Has she called the pub and club to see if anyone handed them in?

chipsnmayo · 29/12/2018 09:09

Yeah do not change the locks, but I would be telling her to get organised, she's not a year 7.

Weepingwillows12 · 29/12/2018 09:10

Actually if this was last night, the question should be is she planning to call them? I would probably see if she can get them back before replacing or changing locks. Her issue to fix though and her expense.

LostInShoebiz · 29/12/2018 09:10

Of course we change the locks! That what the key loser pays for. It’s not worth the risk with the insurance.

Keys might not have your address but someone might see them fall or sadly someone you know vaguely might recognise them and take their chances (as happened to DH2 as a young man).

PurpleWithRed · 29/12/2018 09:11

We got a key safe for this very reason. Also can get a tracker to clip on to the keys to make them easy to find using your iPhone.

MsTSwift · 29/12/2018 09:13

Friends got a key safe thing we will great idea with teens

Dotty1970 · 29/12/2018 09:15

We got a key safe for ours, works brilliantly

Juells · 29/12/2018 09:18

Why would a new bag have a hole in it? (misses point)
