To ask what your new year’s resolutions are for 2019?

2018 has been a really tough year for me for various different reasons, so I’m looking forward to leaving it all behind and starting a shiny new year. My resolutions to hopefully improve my life for 2019 are:

  1. Finish TOMM bootcamp and start following the method for 45 mins on a Monday to Friday basis (having weekends off - woop!) I’m beyond sick of getting so behind on housework that I have to panic-clean whenever guests come round. Having to live in a constantly dirty and dusty house has also affected my mental health this year.

  2. Stop drinking four days a week (Monday to Thursday wherever possible). I think this is the single-most important thing I can do to improve my health and boost my productivity at work.

  3. Start living a far more frugal lifestyle. I’ve racked up an enormous credit card bill this month and the vast majority of it has gone on crap I didn’t need, eating out and takeaways. I’d like to be far more mindful of what I’m spending, stop wasting money on stuff I don’t need and maybe even save up for a holiday.

What are your new year’s resolutions?

To try my best to hit 10k steps a day

To try to take more time to myself

To try to eat less processed foods

JaffaBiscuitNotCake · 27/12/2018 17:07

Mine are to sort my mental health problems out once and for all, even if that means accepting I'll never be 'normal', and to find a new job

00100001 · 27/12/2018 17:07

I did 'mindful spending' in 2018and it really paid off, I've cleared my overdraft.

In 2019 I really need to do some intensive exercises to build up my leg muscles. I've been slacking because of pain, and that was stupid. I've just got to grit my teeth and do it.

tinydancer88 · 27/12/2018 17:09

To be kinder (my job requires me to be patient, calm and non judgemental for 40 hours a week and I think I find it hard to have much left in my personal life sometimes, can be guilty of blurting out something insensitive because I'm irritated and haven't engaged my brain first. Could also apply this to myself as I hold myself to ridiculously high standards which means I'm doomed to 'fail')

To get back into the habit of exercising regularly, and build back up to running a half marathon by September.

To be more careful with money and reduce my credit card debt.

Pachyderm1 · 27/12/2018 17:10

Read 75 books

Eat more seasonally

Write one blog post per fortnight

Take up running again

SantyClaws · 27/12/2018 17:11

Less booze. Lose 20 lb.

I have a hunch these two things are linked Grin

WitsEnding · 27/12/2018 17:24

Cut down on sugar, lose the 5lb I gained in the run-up to Xmas.
Add daily stretches to my daily exercise regime.

Stop and think before accepting every invitation that comes my way, and decline those that mean spending too much time with people I don't really like.

Find some voluntary work / a socially useful role.

JaffaBiscuitNotCake I was recently
Diagnosed with bipolar. I talk about it with people and am not ashamed of people knowing. I’m open with people that they are free to ask questions. It’s refreshing to see people ask questions they they were ‘afraid to ask because they didn’t want to offend’.
It’s part of me I can’t change. It’s part of you, accept it. We aren’t different those of us who suffer with mental health problems, are brains just work in a different way!

@WitsEnding I like this one - I find it so hard to say no, then spend ages feeling resentful that I’m spending my precious free time doing stuff I don’t want to do.

Quit vaping, and try not to put loads of weight on doing it :/ I quit fags 3 years ago, but have been on the electric fag ever since

Cuzcospoison · 27/12/2018 18:12

Mindful spending sounds interesting.

  • more minimal lifestyle
  • spend less & save more/pay off some debt.
  • eat better and take care of myself
  • be more present & empathetic
Sarcelle · 27/12/2018 18:14

Less time using phone, tablet etc. I used to love reading and I still do read, but find that using screens too much as affected my attention span so I am not reading as deeply (I have to consciously stop myself from skim reading books like on screen) and to slow down. It follows naturally that I want to read more. This is the one I want to achieve the most.

Slow down in general. By that I mean stop doing stuff in a rush when there is no need to rush. And do one thing at a time. Multitasking is overrated and stressful.

Wear more adventurous clothing. I have a safe look and I am bored with it. I am not going to go the full Trinny Woodall (don't have her shape or budget!) but she puts stuff together in an adventurous way and I want to adopt the mindset of trying different stuff in a different way.

Stop trying to be liked. Not everybody likes everybody, need to accept that and don't try and win them round. Don't change myself to fit in.

Be more groomed, make the effort for myself. Apply body lotion and foot cream regularly rather than once in a blue moon.

Eat less meat, be more adventurous in food choices, particularly when eating out.

Listen to more music.

Smile more.

  • Read 50 books (only managed 39 this year)
  • Lose 10 kg, but this is not the main goal- main goal is to build discipline going to the gym, which also tackles my mental health. Gym 3 x times a week + running when the weather gets better
  • QUIT SMOKING. I set a date. That's it.
  • Deal with my anxiety better
SneakyGremlins · 27/12/2018 18:24

This may sound odd but I'm buying myself more little treats. This year I didn't really buy myself anything so when I did I spent a lot of money I didn't have.

Fightthebear · 27/12/2018 18:27

To delete my Facebook account, they’ve been really terrible in 2018.

Nidy · 27/12/2018 19:40

My last alcohol drink will be 30th December 18, I will not drink any alcohol in 2019!

Huntawaymama · 27/12/2018 19:44

To walk more and to read more.

Last year i resolved to recycle more and eat more fruit and reflecting on that now I'm really proud of myself I've done well. Although I've been breastfeeding the last 6m and honestly fruit has been taken overy by biscuits but I'm still eating more fruit then last year

Travisandthemonkey · 27/12/2018 20:01

Drink less
Move more
Keep away from the narc
I used to be happy and confident and pretty. Currently I am none of those things

AGHHHH · 27/12/2018 20:11

To get in shape. Round doesn't count.

thisismeusernameything · 27/12/2018 20:12

This year I learnt an immense amount about greed and what chancers are willing to do to get a free meal ticket once they have their claws dug in. 2019 will be a continuation of 2018s last few months, concentrating on my own self worth and looking after those around me that truly want to be in my life rather than being there because of what I can give them.

SheSnapsThenSheFarts · 27/12/2018 20:15

I'm going to eat more ice cream. I'm confident of my success.

Kemer2018 · 27/12/2018 20:18

I've got to get a different job.
The one I've been in since March is making me ill with worry I dont fully know how to do it, haven't been trained, taught myself using a manual and there is nobody who knows the job. Work is piling up and there is never hope of it getting straightened out. It's Finance.
Must. Get.new.job.

everythingisginandroses · 27/12/2018 21:00

  1. Get more sleep. Been getting by on 6 hours ish, often less, for the last decade, tired all the time and worried I am ruining my health. Really need to be kinder to myself in regard to this.
  1. Do the Katie Berry 30 Days to a Clean and Organised House, then start TOMM after that. Build-up of dust and dirt really bothers me, but I am frequently too knackered to do much beyond the basics until it gets pressing, and then I have to work really fucking hard.

As a shift worker (no nights, but out of the house 11 hours a day minimum and can get home anywhere from 1830 - 2200) I am concerned that I may struggle to do both (or either) of the above Sad
