To ask what your new year’s resolutions are for 2019?

Crimson72 · 27/12/2018 17:02

2018 has been a really tough year for me for various different reasons, so I’m looking forward to leaving it all behind and starting a shiny new year. My resolutions to hopefully improve my life for 2019 are:

  1. Finish TOMM bootcamp and start following the method for 45 mins on a Monday to Friday basis (having weekends off - woop!) I’m beyond sick of getting so behind on housework that I have to panic-clean whenever guests come round. Having to live in a constantly dirty and dusty house has also affected my mental health this year.

  2. Stop drinking four days a week (Monday to Thursday wherever possible). I think this is the single-most important thing I can do to improve my health and boost my productivity at work.

  3. Start living a far more frugal lifestyle. I’ve racked up an enormous credit card bill this month and the vast majority of it has gone on crap I didn’t need, eating out and takeaways. I’d like to be far more mindful of what I’m spending, stop wasting money on stuff I don’t need and maybe even save up for a holiday.

What are your new year’s resolutions?

I was talkingvabout new year resolutions with DS (14) and ours is to go out for coffee together once a month, no phones, and spend some quality time together, which has been seriously lacking this year.

PumpkinPie2016 · 30/12/2018 10:26

Mine are to cut right down on alcohol - thinking of doing dry January. It's not that I drink loads but over the last few months me and DH have certainly been drinking more and the festive season hasn't helped! As I say, it's not loads, we don't get drunk or anything but it definitely makes us feel more lethargic.

I just re-start healthy work lunches - I was making nice salads but got into the habit of eating from the school canteen/shop near school. Expensive and not the healthiest!

Doghorsechicken · 30/12/2018 10:40

This year I managed to declutter the house and sort every cupboard & room before baby arrived. I’m so happy I achieved that!

However, he is now 7 months old and I’ve gained 2 stone! So I need to slim back down into my size 10 clothes, I refuse to buy more.

I’d also like to make a good go with my veggie patch and actually keep on top of weeding it & caring for it. Hopefully DS will be happy to play outside whilst I’m pottering.

Snipples · 30/12/2018 12:16

Ooh I like these. Mine is to cook at least four meals a week and stop ordering so many takeaways.

And obviously lose like 2 stone.

Santaclarita · 30/12/2018 12:26

To be more positive.

longnight · 30/12/2018 12:30

To take better care of myself
To finish my ou module
To keep my resolve of not going back to my ex no matter how lonely and crap I feel about myself

userxx · 30/12/2018 12:37

Lose this extra weight that is making me feel unattractive and uncomfortable. Just generally look after myself more. Read more books.

JennyHolzersGhost · 30/12/2018 13:47

I think I’d like to do more to cut down on my use of plastics. Am looking at getting some beeswax wraps to cut out cling film, as a start.

I’m also hoping to quit my job and take a middle aged ‘gap year’ but I’m not sure if that counts as a resolution or not ! I guess the resolution is to take some positive steps towards a career change.

Crimson72 · 30/12/2018 17:13

Great resolutions everyone. Keep ’em coming! Grin

To be kinder to myself and my poor long suffering body. It has put up with an awful lot of abuse over the years and I think it is now time to show it how much I appreciate its gargantuan efforts to keep me upright and awake when it counted Smile

Snugglepiggy · 30/12/2018 17:27

Make greater inroads into reducing plastic /waste.Done a lot in the household this year but could do more.Would love to pluck up courage to hand back some packaging at the till.
Another one who resolves to take things less to heart. And again someone is taking advantage (friend)or being rude ( family ) speak up there and then rather than festering and holding a grudge. Not proud of that one.
Learn to concentrate and enjoy books again. Remembered how satisfying reading is rather than scrolling on my phone.

flamingofridays · 30/12/2018 17:30

Eat less biscuits.

Waste less money.

Change my new garden (moved in nov) to a veg growers paradise. (Disclaimer - only experience of growing veg was eating it in my gramps garden and my grandads allotment when i was a kid!)

howtobehuman · 30/12/2018 17:40

Live more sustainably

Improve my physical & mental health

Improve my relationships (the ones that matter at least)

JennyHolzersGhost · 30/12/2018 17:53

Oh yes books! That’s another one. Last year I was on a book buying ban to force me to get through my backlog. It went by the wayside in the second half of the year so it’s about time I reinstated it.

Mulberry72 · 30/12/2018 17:59

Eat better and eat more (my diet is awful but I’m not overweight at all, I don’t eat enough or the right food).
Try to worry less (easier said than done but I’m definitely going to try)
To learn more (I’m interested in so many different things that I’d love to be more knowledgeable about)
To be less gullible (I was totally blindsided by the behaviour of someone that I considered to be a close friend. I realise now that she actually wasn’t really my friend at all, but it’s her loss).
Talk to DH more (We don’t often sit and chat about stuff/our relationship and we’ve done it twice over the past couple of weeks and it’s been lovely).

So nothing world changing, but just little things that I hope will make me a better person.

AllTakenSoRubbishUsername · 30/12/2018 18:08

To spend less, enjoy what I have more
To never put anything down in the wrong place (easy tidying)
To take up a new course

Redshoeblueshoe · 30/12/2018 18:09

To lose 2 stone

JustDanceAddict · 30/12/2018 18:11

Find a new job.

Lose the xmas tum.

Cook more from Scratch again.

Make more effort with friends

seriouslylong · 30/12/2018 18:14

  1. complete two courses I have paid for

  2. improve at the sport I love

  3. eat healthier

  4. learn the splits SmileSmile

  5. read more books - books on positivity and self improvement - if you have any recommendations please let me know :)

  6. keep my home cleaner - also what is:

Katie Berry 30 Days to a Clean and Organised House - this sounds like it could be useful - if you have read it please give me an idea of what it's about I might try it Smile

SaucyJack · 30/12/2018 18:15

I need to lose weight.

Am now properly fat, so any amount off would be better than nothing. I have become too accepting of that I’ll never be size 8 again, and have just given up trying to stay at all in the shape the past couple of years.

flamingofridays · 30/12/2018 18:17

Also to focus more on what i have got, more than what i havent got.

We were skint when i was a kid and yet i never felt like i missed out but ive got some kind of unhealthy obsession with making sure ds has it all. Hes 2 ffs. He probably won't give a shiny shit where we go on holiday, or what our house looks like.

Bohemond · 30/12/2018 18:23

To be more present (I have started a very successful company but recognise that it is taking up too much brain space and time I should be spending with my four year old)
To go back to no carbs
Use up all the beauty and cleaning products I have before buying any more
Mindful spending generally
More water, less wine
Get back my yoga body in time for June holiday (not so easy at 46!)

AandB201517 · 30/12/2018 18:25

Loving this thread. I’ve just added a few to my own list of resolutions

AmbitiousHalibut · 30/12/2018 18:32

Loving this thread! Mine are:

  • Come off Facebook. I'm going to start by deleting the app from my phone for Jan and go from there.
  • Stop charging my phone by my bed overnight. This will require getting an actual alarm clock but that's okay! I don't want my first action every morning to be reaching for my phone.
  • Read more (I was much better at this this year and really enjoyed it)
  • Regain some fitness after a recent knee injury, but find new ways to exercise so I can lose a little weight and tone up without further injury
  • Spend less time around toxic people
  • Finish the novella I've been trying to finish for years
MrBrown · 30/12/2018 18:35

Continue to lose weight, made a good start but need to keep it up.

Build up some savings and clear £2k off my credit card.

Finish decorating the house and renovate the bathroom.

Use my phone less especially when around DS.

Try and have more patience.
