Best, most robust, iPhone charger?

TruckLoadOfSubtleGlitter · 27/12/2018 15:14

iPhone chargers themselves (that the iPhone/pad/pod come with) are fine for a couple of years. But after that, any charger we buy are shite.

We have bought genuine Apple chargers from the store and they were shite. Lasted a couple of weeks.

I've tried Belkin, about 15 of them. They all just stop working after a couple of months.

I've tried Native Union, they worked really well for a year. Now the two I have recently got for the front room have lasted a couple of months.

It would be easy to blame my kids but I'm really careful with chargers and I have the same problem with all of mine.

Now we have charged issues again and need to replace them. But what make?!

I know, I know don't buy Apple.

I was genuinely coming on to recommend official Apple chargers.

Ours have lasted years!

TruckLoadOfSubtleGlitter · 27/12/2018 15:22

Check out the reviews on apple chargers we had the same problem.

How do you get them to last years?! I literally get through (the official) chargers every 6 months - the cables all fray!

Cherries101 · 27/12/2018 15:25

I use extra long nylon braided chargers. JTech and Amazon Basics are the best for durability here.

JacquesHammer · 27/12/2018 15:25

Huh! Maybe it’s luck of the draw!

I don’t know! Just use them. I reckon the oldest we have is from 2005.

papayya · 27/12/2018 15:26

I've got a few Apple chargers that have lasted 5-10 years! Maybe they don't make them as well as they used to?

Lattesforlife · 27/12/2018 15:27

My current charger (I know, I know - I will change it!)

which phone do you have?

if your phone is wireless charging enabled, definitely a wireless charger - you can also get cases that make it work as wireless charging if it is a little older

I would definitrly recommend wireless charging, i sit my phone on the cradle every night, nothing plugging or unplugging to break, its fab!

brizzledrizzle · 27/12/2018 15:34

These are what you need - there are many different ones on Amazon.
We use them and no more cable fraying.

which phone do you have?

iPhone 6, iPhone 7, iPod, and iPad.

When you say wireless charger do you mean docking station?

TruckLoadOfSubtleGlitter · 27/12/2018 15:39

Thanks for the link. Do those little animals stop it fraying or stop the charger from breaking generally?

It's just that we never have a problem with fraying (as per the photo above) because we don't own them long enough for them to fray.

They remain in perfect condition to sight. But it's a lie.

Anker. Strong cables and extra long too.

Magicstar1 · 27/12/2018 15:42

My Apple charger frayed and I brought it back for replacement. The store told me there’s a year warranty on them.

ILoveMyCaravan · 27/12/2018 15:43

I use a Belkin MIXIT 2.1 A Wall USB Mains Charger with an Anker double braided 6ft cable. Works really well together and very fast charging. iPhone 6s+

Sparklingbrook · 27/12/2018 15:44

I have just got DS2 a 10 foot long one from TK Maxx with a braided cover. They seem to last as DS1 has had the 6 foot one for ages.

Tequilamockinbird · 27/12/2018 15:45

We are Juice charger users in this house. 3 iPhones and an iPad. They last better than any other charger I've tried.

Ledkr · 27/12/2018 15:46

One of the reasons I ditched apple for android recently

brizzledrizzle · 27/12/2018 15:48

They stop it from fraying which is always the problem we have had.

beachyhead · 27/12/2018 15:49

We are all Juice here too..... they've lasted much better, loads of different lengths and colours. Good customer service too, I sent one back and they just sent me a new one. I bought direct off the website but Sainsbury's has them too

TruckLoadOfSubtleGlitter · 27/12/2018 15:49

The store told me there’s a year warranty on them. indeed they do. Which is why I managed to get my money back on ally eh chargers that have broken.
Unfortunately, warranty doesn't mean they don't break.

I use a Belkin MIXIT 2 I have absolutely no faith in Belkin. They are the ones we have bought most of. They never last more than about 8 weeks.

SparklingBrook are you able to tell me what make it is? It should be written on the small metal part that connects to the phone.
We use braided ones (which are definitely better than unbraided!) but we still haven't solved the issue.

I like the idea of wireless but both kids use their phones while they charge so I can't imagine that would work out for them.

Thanks, I've been noticing Juice come up a lot in my search this afternoon.

I will order one now, thanks for the tip.

Ive never had a charger stop working on me yet and we use them for 5 apple devices, the charger lasted longer than the ipad mini! The occasional cable has burst at the end and been replaced with an Amazon basics braided cable which has also lasted well, although the chargers tend to stay where they are and aren't pulled in and out the wall much.

TruckLoadOfSubtleGlitter · 27/12/2018 15:51

Ooh juice do not have good reviews on Amazon.... 😫

I have only ever had one apple charger fray in the last 5 years.
I have bought DC cheap chargers in the past but with new devices I would rather use genuine chargers and not risk £500 + devices being damaged by cheap chargers.

I have now fitted my new charger with a pen spring as per one of the tips on here. Works a treat.
