To feel so miserable because of trapped wind?

evilharpy · 26/12/2018 23:08

It’s such a tiny problem in the grand scheme of things, but I get it quite often and it’s just horrible! I think I’ve overeaten a bit earlier and now I want to pop myself with a pin, I’m so uncomfortable.

Any miracle cures?

Peppermint tea

Fraula · 26/12/2018 23:11

Peppermint tea?

whiteworld · 26/12/2018 23:13

That, and Deflatine, plus exercises to relieve wind. Stand up and bend down to touch toes, up, bend down, and repeat as often as it takes. Can be very sore.

Verryberrycherry · 26/12/2018 23:13

Seriously... Start winding yourself. Lie down, legs in air and do bicycle legs. Then get on side amd bring knees to chest. Gp back on your back and bring knees to chest again. Its what i do with my babies.

FadedRed · 26/12/2018 23:15

Lie flat on your back on the floor, massage your abdomen, after aten minutes turn onto all fours. You will fart and this will relieve the trapped wind. Repeat until you feel comfortable.
Mint Imperials sweets are brilliant for relieving wind pain.

chocatoo · 26/12/2018 23:15

Hot bath. Definitely works, I promise.

posthistoricmonsters · 26/12/2018 23:16

Certain positions make me fart more. If I'm sat on the loo with my feet on a stool, it helps you to poop properly which is also good for wind. Also, getting on all fours and wiggling your bum in the air.

IHaveBrilloHair · 26/12/2018 23:17

Oh no it's awful, I swear I once was on the verge of popping myself with a knitting needle.

holasoydora · 26/12/2018 23:19

I have mint tea every evening and it really works. I also do the lying on my back thing, or leaning over the bathtub!

I am also really careful about not overeating now and avoiding trigger foods. I used to get it quite badly and it’s horrid.

Lyricallie · 26/12/2018 23:19

I feel you one night I was so unwell with it I was up every couple of hours. I was in so much pain. Rocking back and forth with knees up to my chest helped. I’ve now bought emergency peppermint tea.

whojamaflip · 26/12/2018 23:19

Have a glass of port! Seriously it really does help

DuggeesWooOOooggle · 26/12/2018 23:19

Definitely recommend the peppermint tea. Liquorice and fennel are supposed to be good too. And when you go to bed lie on your left side to further help with digestion. I also find if I run my stomach clockwise in a circular motion it can help move things about a bit.

It's a horrible feeling, especially when you can't let rip if you are in company!

luckyrabbits · 26/12/2018 23:27

Walking helps

travailtotravel · 26/12/2018 23:29

I have drunk several cups of peppermint tea over the past few days. It's something of a miracle.

Oneweekleft · 26/12/2018 23:30

Peppermint oil capsules are really good and maybe try and look at what is causing it. Maybe something in your diet or lack of exercise or could even be a digestive problem you need to see a doctor for. I'm investigating what's causing my bloating problem now. I've ignored it for so long but now is so bad I need to deal with it.

FoxInABox · 26/12/2018 23:32

I second the peppermint- I had capsules as I can’t stand tea, or peppermint oil too. I had it awful after having an emergency c section, the morphine didn’t even touch the ache from it, but the peppermint oil was amazing.

evilharpy · 26/12/2018 23:41

I’ve just made a cup of peppermint tea. It’s actually peppermint and fennel. I seem to remember that fennel is in gripe water so maybe that’ll help too.

FoxInABox do you mean peppermint essential oil? What did you do with it?

Oneweekleft it won’t be lack of exercise but maybe something I eat causes it. I wonder if it’s sugar. I rarely eat any refined sugar and when I do I always feel shit afterwards.

holasoydora do you know what your trigger foods are?

I feel your pain. I was in agony with it after DC1 birth. It was caused by iron tablets and went when my consultant suggested using Floradix instead of iron. Is there any form of medication that could be causing yours?

Thewifipasswordis · 26/12/2018 23:48

Is it actually trapped wind or are you starting with gallstone problems?

evilharpy · 26/12/2018 23:51

CleopatrasMum I’m not on any medication at all.

Thewifipasswordis fairly sure it’s trapped wind, I’ve suffered on and off for years. It does eventually... um. Escape.

It was a small dose of actual peppermint oil given to me by the midwife at the hospital. When I left hospital we couldn’t find actual peppermint oil in the supermarket- we were directed to the baking aisles but there was none there- so I bought peppermint oil capsules instead which worked just as well. Hope you feel better soon Flowers

steff13 · 27/12/2018 01:03

You can take peppermint oil internally, or run it on you stomach (mix it with a carrier oil like coconut or almond).

Lay on your back in a hard surface like the floor, and pull your legs up to your chest.

LuluJakey1 · 27/12/2018 01:06

When I was on a gastric ward they gave me peppermint cordial in hot water during the night when I had terrible trapped wind - it was like magic.

GreenTulips · 27/12/2018 01:07

Is the pain in the top left under your ribs?

I had this and it was gallstones linked to fatty food / particularly takeaways
