To be more than angry?

So my genius husband had butchered the hoover and I'm really angry, and his apologising isn't helping me feel any better.

He was burning some papers with sensitive information (indoors...) and while there were still embers he hoovered it with the cordless Dyson. Then ensues a reigniting of flames and a faulty vacuum. It doesn't really hoover anything, the inside is burnt and every time you TRY to hoover it emits a lovely burning smell (!)

Worst part is that it was a perfectly fine hoover. We're not so well off so we can't buy a new one so I don't know what to do with the dirty floors.

I'm so angry but I feel like I'm not getting the satisfaction I need from being angry. It's not going to fix the hoover and it's not going to change anything. He's already apologetic and he knows he messed up. AIBU to still be triggered? I don't know what to say or do to calm down! I needed a working hoover!!!

Hope you're all having a good Christmas though lol

What an idiot!! His problem to fix. Sounds like he’ll be sweeping the floors until he has saved up to buy a new vacuum.

Sirzy · 25/12/2018 18:11

He was an idiot.

But what is being gained by dragging out the anger? Sounds like he has acknowledged he was an idiot and apologised.

Can you look on Facebook for a second hand hoover?

MaidenMotherCrone · 25/12/2018 18:16

Thing is Op however angry you get/stay it won’t fix the vacuum cleaner will it?

I understand your frustration though. DS2 drained the boiling water tap yesterday and broke the internal thermostat. It’s wrecked. I don’t have £250 to get a new one.
Being angry won’t fix it.
Would it be worth looking on ebay for a bargain? A cheapie vac is better than non.
Deep breaths Op

MikeUniformMike · 25/12/2018 18:20

He made a mistake. Get on freegle or freecycle or a similar site and put out a 'WANTED:Vacuum cleaner please' request.

fatbrows · 25/12/2018 18:20

I would be calmer if we could even afford a second hand hoover but we can't until pay day which is the 31st. I guess I can hold out.

I know I'm getting nothing out of being angry. I think that's what is making me even more angry, because I can't have a big old release. Maybe I just need a nap lol

DH hoovered up water once. He's a scientist and certainly claims to have common sense.
It resulted in a new hoover.

Weezol · 25/12/2018 18:38

He's going to have a busy few weeks with his dustpan and brush isn't he?

He might even get Housemaid's Knee...

WonderTweek · 25/12/2018 18:43

I feel for you OP. It's a cordless Dyson as well FFS. I didn't feel passionately about vacuum cleaners before I got a Dyson. I love mine and I would be livid if it broke. Unfortunately it's broken now so there isn't much you can do (unless it's still under warranty?) apart from getting a new one. There's bound to be some post Christmas sales, maybe see if you can get a good one for cheaps then? :)

CSIblonde · 25/12/2018 18:45

Gumtree. My 'as new' hoover was £20 off a US woman returning home after UK secondment. (loads of similar everything must go ads in London).

fatbrows · 25/12/2018 18:58

@Weezol I wish. You can't really use a brush on carpets Sad

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 25/12/2018 19:05

Do any friends have a spare Hoover you can borrow until pay day. I know we have our stain but kept the old Miele in the garage for the cars etc. How frustrating.

Allthewaves · 25/12/2018 19:05

Have you checked filters? You can buy cheap replacements off amazon that are just as good?

LanaorAna2 · 25/12/2018 19:06

Carpet sweeper £12 on Amazon. Works a dream.

gamerwidow · 25/12/2018 19:07

Have you got family local. In this situation I'd pick up my mums a couple of times a week until i could afford a new one.

Bombardier25966 · 25/12/2018 19:10

By the 31st do you mean December, not January? If so I'm sure you'll cope for a week without hoovering. If you can't, borrow one from a friend.

Coolaschmoola · 25/12/2018 19:10

Fatbrows you absolutely can use a brush on a carpet to get the bits up.

fatbrows · 25/12/2018 19:10

@gamerwidow actually we do have family nearby. Actually they're so nearby that we live with them lol. So he's broken everyone's hoover

Itsmemargie · 25/12/2018 19:18

Where are you op? I have a practically new hetty hoover you can have as I just got a new one x

PoutySprout · 25/12/2018 19:18

That’s rather beautifully ironic, given Dyson is prepared to let the U.K. burn in order to improve his imports and exports from the Far East.

I smashed ours up ceremoniously with a sledge hammer but burning would have been satisfying too. :)

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 25/12/2018 19:22

Would it be covered by your household insurance, OP?

I would be steaming, but it was an accident so if you can confine your frustration to this thread you’ll have a happier Christmas.

Gudgyx · 25/12/2018 19:24

Shark website - no immediate payment, £40 per month and delivered next day. For the one I got anyway, the true pet thing

malmi · 25/12/2018 19:25

Sorry to say it but if you can't scrape together £40 for a basic Argos vacuum then you've probably not planned your Christmas spending as well as you should. Unless you simply don't want to dip into your emergency fund, but then this is exactly the type of thing it's there for surely?

BottleOfJameson · 25/12/2018 19:28

It's annoying but it was a mistake, and he already feels bad and has apologised so you need to try to get over it. I'm like you I get frustrated by these screw ups but when the shoe has been on the other foot DH has always accepted an apology and left it, it's made me realise it's the right thing to do and I make a real effort to accept apologies with good grace. (obviously it would be different for things done deliberately or if someone was consistently careless).

Gigglebrain · 25/12/2018 19:30

Oh Malmi shut up! Some of us don’t have spare funds, kicking the op while she is down is completely unhelpful and spiteful.

Reallybadidea · 25/12/2018 19:31

Have a look on Gumtree. Our dishwasher died recently, I didn't want to shell out for a new one because we're planning to move house soon. I got a 1 year old Bosch dishwasher for £100 and we collected it the next day!
