To be more than angry?

So my genius husband had butchered the hoover and I'm really angry, and his apologising isn't helping me feel any better.

He was burning some papers with sensitive information (indoors...) and while there were still embers he hoovered it with the cordless Dyson. Then ensues a reigniting of flames and a faulty vacuum. It doesn't really hoover anything, the inside is burnt and every time you TRY to hoover it emits a lovely burning smell (!)

Worst part is that it was a perfectly fine hoover. We're not so well off so we can't buy a new one so I don't know what to do with the dirty floors.

I'm so angry but I feel like I'm not getting the satisfaction I need from being angry. It's not going to fix the hoover and it's not going to change anything. He's already apologetic and he knows he messed up. AIBU to still be triggered? I don't know what to say or do to calm down! I needed a working hoover!!!

Hope you're all having a good Christmas though lol

But a stiff brush with hard bristles from Amazon. Ours costs about £6 and it's great for the carpets. Just get on your hands and knees and sweep the dust into a dustpan. Otherwise try Facebook selling pages or gumtree. I often see good as new vacuum cleaners on there. Especially now people are Hinch mad and are all getting those shark vacs.

fatbrows · 25/12/2018 19:35

@malmi, haha I understand, but I don't even celebrate christmas. We just have had shitty jobs that never paid well. I'm fine though, husband got a new job and we should be living more comfortably very very soon.

@gigglebrain, thank you!

@bottleofJameson, you're so right. DH forgives me when I screw up too. We've made up now anyway though, it was just in the moment.

I'd be pretty pissed he's burning stuff inside tbh, the smoke and Ash won't be good for anyone and as he vacuumed up the biyd it's not even like he's done in a metal bin say.

Surely he should be replacing it atl wast with a cheap / second hand one?

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 25/12/2018 19:52

Do give it a rest malmi
Ideally, yes adults would have a cash reserve of just in case monies for emergencies
However, realistically, most adults don’t have a emergency fund and op has said she’s skint

Frankswife87 · 25/12/2018 20:07

Hey op I totally understand your anger! My DH has pulled some daft stunts that have gave me the standby rage that isn't satisfied with a sad face apologie, perhaps you can get s reconditioned Dyson? I've seen sellers on Facebook as well as the local markets that sometimes give a 3 month warranty Grin

Frankswife87 · 25/12/2018 20:07

Stabby ! Not standby

Branleuse · 25/12/2018 20:11

Have you checked freecycle or asked facebook if anyone has a spare theyre getting rid of or lend you till payday

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 25/12/2018 21:15

Shark vacs get rave reviews (better than Dyson). I understand if you buy direct from their website you can pay in four (monthly) instalments interest free.

They also come with a 5 year guarantee (excluding hoovering up burnt bits!).

I've gone for a corded upright but they sell corded, cordless, upright and handheld models.

scarylea · 25/12/2018 21:29

I dropped a pot of cumin seeds all over the floor and decided to hoover them up in the cordless dyson. It now smells like the local curry house whenever we hoover!

PickAChew · 25/12/2018 21:37

I had the same problem after vacuuming up a dropped jar of garam masala, scary. Thankfully, it's a sebo and the smell went away when I changed the bag.

Squatternutbosh123 · 25/12/2018 22:14

No one has asked why the actual fuck he's burning stuff indoors???? Whereabouts indoors?

misskatamari · 25/12/2018 22:20

If it's a cordless it might be fixable op. I called Dyson the other day as ours is playing up and the guy on the phone told me that they're very modular and most issues can be fixed by fitting a new part. Don't know if that would be the case with yours, but might be worth looking in to

notdaddycool · 25/12/2018 22:22

Is it still under warranty? Can say it’s not working...

PrincessMargaret · 25/12/2018 22:53

When's payday? Lack of a Hoover is not normally that much of an issue for a short while.

MereDintofPandiculation · 25/12/2018 23:02

Do you have contents insurance? It's a long shot, but you might see if it'd be covered under "accidental damage".

Drogosnextwife · 25/12/2018 23:05

Well if the hoover is definitely buggered i would probably take a hammer to it, get some if that anger out 😂. Orif its still working and its just the smell you get places that service hoovers
, give them a good clean basically. That might help.

mummyhaschangedhername · 25/12/2018 23:12

I feel your pain. My children decided to hoover up several glasses of water and Burnt out the motor. IT was only a year old just, it cost a fortune but not currently in the position to replace it. Thankfully my husband saved it, stripped it out and cleaned it out ... but I totally understand your pain, I was devastated.
