Oooops.... Christmas Present Failure (suspect I'm starting this thread a little early for most folk)

Every year two of my closest friends come round to ours on Christmas Eve. We have nibbles and exchange presents. They never stay too long because we've all got final preps to do for tomorrow, but it's always nice.

This year my best friend got us artisanal flavoured gin. Very nice. And she very generously got me and DH a bottle each.

LOVELY gift.

Our present to her (and other friend)? Home-made flavoured gin. Xmas Blush

So, she'll have spent about quadruple what we spent. I hope she's not going to be really pissed off.

Tomorrow, when the rest of the world catches up, do feel free to share your christmas present fails.

It’s not about the money though is it. You planned and made something for her. I’m sure she is really pleased. Unless you flavoured it with something really left field...

oliviatrivia · 24/12/2018 19:56

We saw some very good friends of ours today, we always buy gifts for each other’s kids and sometimes each other.

This year I was sure we had agreed no gifts for the adults.

I was wrong Blush

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 24/12/2018 19:57

OR she's home now thinking wow what effort snoggs went to, and I bought my gin at the shop 🤷‍♀️ I'm sure she loved it!

sharke · 24/12/2018 19:57

That's lovely. I'd love home made gin. A really nice present, regardless of the amount they spent in comparison. Xmas Smile

2littleguineas · 24/12/2018 19:59

Don't forget you also hosted your get together which I'm sure is reflected in her gift.

Whatsnewwithyou · 24/12/2018 19:59

Homemade gifts are the best.

My friend gets me chocolate with peanut butter stuff every year (reeses) - just a token gift. But we can't have peanuts in the house because DH is severely allergic. And I stopped eating peanuts after a kiss from me a few hours after consuming a snickers bar sent him to hospital. I always thank her and throw them in the bin on my way home. It's been going on for so long it's too late to say anything!

KeepServingTheFestiveSnogs · 24/12/2018 20:15

Thank you all for making me feel better. Have a glass on me Gin

Namechangeforthiscancershit Flowers for your username. She got orange. The other friend got lemongrass/lime/ginger. They're not too left field, are they?

oliviatrivia That's very cringe. My toes are curling for you.

That's best case scenario ZigZagIntoTheBlue [btw, I LOVE you calling me snogs... it's a festive name change (if you saw that thread), but I really like it, so snogs not usually part of my name. Have an xmas !]

That's quite sucky, Whatsnewwithyou

Merry Christmas to all of you!

I wouldn’t worry I’d be impressed at the similar presents and how clearly your friendship is a match made in heaven!! Grin

Birdsgottafly · 24/12/2018 20:20

I love it if someone made me Rose or Violet Gin.

KeepServingTheFestiveSnogs · 24/12/2018 21:19

Birds I'm sure you are lovely, but both of those sound minging!

Come round to mine and have some raspberry!

Yes
!

NonaGrey · 24/12/2018 21:27

I’d think homemade gun was a very considerate present. I don’t measure amounts spent.

Jayfee · 24/12/2018 21:30

How can you home make gin??

BottleOfJameson · 24/12/2018 21:34

Some of the most memorable gifts I've got have been home made (some lovely chutney, and delicious home made curry paste spring ti mind). When I've received gifts like that I always feel embarrassed that they've gone to all that effort and I just bought them something.

SpoonBlender · 24/12/2018 21:38

@jayfee you buy in the gin, add flavourings yourself. Sloes, rhubarb, the various things mentioned upthread.

I mean you could set up a bathtub distillery, but if you started giving it away the excise people would be on you.

lastqueenofscotland · 24/12/2018 21:41

I spent a fair bit more on my DP than he did on me BUT I LOVED my gift it was hugely thoughtful and I will quite literally use it daily.

I have not been sitting here grumbling about the cost of it more how much I like it.
It is the thought that counts

HariboLecter · 24/12/2018 21:42

Nona no guns please 🤣

Gotthetshirt23 · 24/12/2018 21:42

artisanal ? GinXmas Shock

BWatchWatcher · 24/12/2018 21:47

It’s actually not that hard to get your own distiller’s license these days. You can buy a still on ebay.
misses point

Ethel36 · 24/12/2018 21:48

I think it's lovely to receive home made gifts. I'm pretty sure they are more than happy with your gift.

thethirdbiscuiteer · 24/12/2018 21:48

@Whatsnewwithyou please don't throw the chocs in the bin! Give them to me! GrinOr take them into work.

Fuglywitch · 24/12/2018 21:50

Hope I've not failed. Did try to get what people liked. But for me, I've been given 3 tins of quality streets (3 different people). Rather disappointed, as i dislike them. Gave them to the food bank.

Northernmum100 · 24/12/2018 21:51

I received a bottle of home-made flavoured Gin in my secret Santa this year and have to say I was seriously touched by this. Someone had put thought and effort to make my gift so personal. I would love to have you as a friend!

lavenderbluedilly · 24/12/2018 21:53

Sorry but artisanal made me snigger Grin

Ilovelblue · 24/12/2018 21:54

Whatsnew as somebody else has said, don't throw them in the bin. I am not allowed to eat chocolate but received three lots at a Christmas lunch recently - I donated them to a local food bank.
