To not know how to do Christmas since I might be in labour

My due date is tomorrow and, despite all my protestations to the contrary, it seems like the baby might come on Christmas. I’ve never gone into labour naturally before so I don’t have any sense of how quickly things might progress, but contractions are fairly regular and seven minutes apart at the moment. The problem is that I have three year old twins who are very excited about Father Christmas coming tomorrow, and now I’m not sure if I’ll be here for Christmas morning. I know this is selfish but I would feel so sad to miss out on their excitement in the morning, but equally I don’t want them to wake up expecting something that hasn’t happened. My MIL and SIL will come look after them if we have to go, and I could get everything ready tonight for FC’s visit once the boys are in bed. Is there any other other way to deal with this than the two options I can currently see?

My bets are on an Xmas Eve baby. Good luck!

Wizzwazzwas · 24/12/2018 20:25

Sounds more like a Christmas Eve baby than Christmas Day! Watch out, I say, with my younger three the head followed less than 5 mins after waters went.

I gave birth to my DD on Christmas Eve afternoon. I hoped to get out by evening but in the end I had to wait until Christmas morning. My three year old opened his presents with Nanny and Grandad and was excited to show them to me when I arrived just before lunch with his new little sister. I kept a couple of small presents back which I hid in DDs car seat so to him new baby came bearing gifts. Good luck! It will be fine. Your twins will be so excited about presents!

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 24/12/2018 20:26

Oooo so exciting.hopefully you have a Xmas Eve baby and you can go home before they even wake up. That's what my sister did.

tumtitum · 24/12/2018 20:37

My bets are on a Christmas Eve baby too, can't believe they said come in a couple of hours after waters breaking! With my second my waters broke and baby started coming immediately afterwards! Good luck :)

hendricksy · 24/12/2018 20:41

fleshmarketclose · 24/12/2018 20:41

I'm a Christmas Day baby and dm helpfully went into labour after my elder db and dsis had gone to bed so she had done the presents and the dinner. Then df had to go out in the snow to rescue the midwife who was travelling by push bike. I was born at 11.58pm and db and dsis knew nothing about it until they got up on Boxing Day.

Booboostwo · 24/12/2018 20:44

Ooooh, exciting Xmas Grin Good luck OP.
If Jesus or Rudolf don't appeal then you could always call the baby Noddy.

itneverrainsitpours · 24/12/2018 20:48

Good luck 🍀

Strongbeatsskinny · 24/12/2018 20:54

Good luck sounds like baby is on their way

TheFairyCaravan · 24/12/2018 20:56

DS2 was born on Christmas Eve lunchtime. Unfortunately he didn't feed particularly well so I wasn't allowed out until Christmas morning. The hospital was keen to get rid of us so DH told DS1 that Santa was delayed and our neighbour put the presents under the tree while they were picking us up from the hospital.

Good luck OP

SchrodingersUnicorn · 24/12/2018 20:58

Oooh good luck! I'm guessing Christmas Eve baby too.
If you do have to stay in, for what it's worth, my big sister (who would have been the same age as your twins) still remembers the Christmas mum was in hospital having me (and dad there too) as her best childhood Christmas ever because she got so spoilt by family to overcompensate. Not sure how mum felt about that, mind you.
Hope all goes well!

Momzilla82 · 24/12/2018 20:58

Good luck OP. Spectacularly creative way to get out of Christmas washing up ;) I'm now cursing myself for not thinking of this in March.

Strugglingonagain · 24/12/2018 20:59

Oooh how exciting!
When I had DD 3 weeks ago I was discharged after 6hrs (and had stitches) so if it goes relatively quick you might get home for at least part of the day!

ALemonyPea · 24/12/2018 21:00

Good luck Op, could even be a Christmas Eve baby.

glueandstick · 24/12/2018 21:03

The silence from the OP is good news huh? So exciting. Could this be any more Christmassy?! (Please call the baby Jesus. Or Nicholas. Or Holly. Something very cliched. Joy. Noel. Angel? Gabriel! Whatever the three wise men were called. Joseph. Donna)

OMG OMG got it.
