To not know how to do Christmas since I might be in labour

TitusAndromedom · 24/12/2018 17:23

My due date is tomorrow and, despite all my protestations to the contrary, it seems like the baby might come on Christmas. I’ve never gone into labour naturally before so I don’t have any sense of how quickly things might progress, but contractions are fairly regular and seven minutes apart at the moment. The problem is that I have three year old twins who are very excited about Father Christmas coming tomorrow, and now I’m not sure if I’ll be here for Christmas morning. I know this is selfish but I would feel so sad to miss out on their excitement in the morning, but equally I don’t want them to wake up expecting something that hasn’t happened. My MIL and SIL will come look after them if we have to go, and I could get everything ready tonight for FC’s visit once the boys are in bed. Is there any other other way to deal with this than the two options I can currently see?

Im an Xmas eve baby, happy birthday me today!

I loved having my birthday when everyone was already in a party mood and family was home. I used to have a party for school friends in Jan.

Hope you have a smooth delivery

DanSullivan · 24/12/2018 19:56

Wishing you well! If everything goes smoothly with the delivery, you could be discharged after around six hours.

sharke · 24/12/2018 19:59

Ohhhhh good luck Thanks

Strawberry2017 · 24/12/2018 19:59

Good luck! 💖

MrsJane · 24/12/2018 19:59

Good luck! Could even be a Christmas Eve baby!

agentdaisy · 24/12/2018 20:05

Good luck op, hope the baby arrives soon.

I had my dd in the MLU and we were home 4 hours after she was born. It was much quicker getting discharged from the MLU than the labour ward as we were the only ones there that night.

If you have a fairly quick labour you might be home before your dts have woken up.

Ooo i just want to be part of the Christmas baby thread! How exciting! They'll be thrilled with a new addition as their extra special Christmas gift

TruckLoadOfSubtleGlitter · 24/12/2018 20:10

Ok I'm going to make a prediction.

MLU will send you home because contractions haven't started.
3am will come, contractions will start, too quick for an ambulance and DH will catch the baby and this thread will get 936280 posts.

I wrote the script.

U2HasTheEdge · 24/12/2018 20:10

Ohh exciting. A Christmas baby. I hope everything goes well and you are home in time to open presents tomorrow Thanks

Hmmmbiscuits · 24/12/2018 20:12

Best of luck and fingers crossed it goes well, so you can come home tomorrow.

There will be other Christmases you can be at home for and you little ones will certainly remember this one, so don't worry.

CanuckBC · 24/12/2018 20:14

Good luck! I hope for you it goes fairly quickly.

Redtartanshoes · 24/12/2018 20:14

I’d delay Xmas until you are home. Let them
Open their stockings with their granny. St their age they gave no idea how much stuff they “should” be getting so will probably be just as happy with stocking stuff. Xnas presents and new baby once you are gone. They’ll never remember anyway

Good luck!

MsJaneAusten · 24/12/2018 20:14

A Christmas birth thread?!

This is beyond exciting.

Hope you’re ok OP.

ChampooPapi · 24/12/2018 20:14

This is so exciting! Maybe even a Christmas eve baby! my waters broke half an hour before I gave birth so you could be home by the morning tucked up in bed with your newborn. All the best to you and merry Christmas everyone!

Gooseygoosey12345 · 24/12/2018 20:15

Hope it's all going well! You might have baby and be back home early morning, they let me out an hour or so after having my second (would have been quicker if I'd have known I had to do a big wee lol)! Good luck and merry Christmas

Emelene · 24/12/2018 20:15

Good luck OP! What an amazing Christmas present for your family!

Ooh this happened to someone I know. She put her DD to bed, went into labour, had the baby in hospital and then woke her DD in the morning with her new little brother! Imagine how exciting and special that must have been!

donajimena · 24/12/2018 20:16

This is exciting. Wishing you a speedy birth as you might be home in time for dinner.

PointlessPigeon · 24/12/2018 20:16

Fingers crossed

SometimesMaybe · 24/12/2018 20:17

Aw, as soo. As you said about doing housework I knew it was going to start. Proper nesting. How lovely, best of luck OP. Christmas Eve babies are good ;)

Iwantaspangran · 24/12/2018 20:18

Good luck OP- your boys will love all the presents anyway and will be happily playing by the time you get home with your new addition!
Merry Christmas!
