To not know how to do Christmas since I might be in labour

My due date is tomorrow and, despite all my protestations to the contrary, it seems like the baby might come on Christmas. I’ve never gone into labour naturally before so I don’t have any sense of how quickly things might progress, but contractions are fairly regular and seven minutes apart at the moment. The problem is that I have three year old twins who are very excited about Father Christmas coming tomorrow, and now I’m not sure if I’ll be here for Christmas morning. I know this is selfish but I would feel so sad to miss out on their excitement in the morning, but equally I don’t want them to wake up expecting something that hasn’t happened. My MIL and SIL will come look after them if we have to go, and I could get everything ready tonight for FC’s visit once the boys are in bed. Is there any other other way to deal with this than the two options I can currently see?

In the end, I think it was my SIL steaming the bathroom floor, which was very kind of her!

Basically, waters broke at 6.30, I got into the bathtub a little after seven, got out a little before eight because we needed to get to the MLU. At that point I started having sort of one long contraction but just thought I was coping really badly with everything. My poor husband was trying to get the tens machine on me at my demand, and trying to get me dressed so I could get to the car. Suddenly her head popped out, so he called the ambulance, and then the rest of her came! She’s 8lbs and already feeding really well. We’re hoping to go home in the next thirty minutes or so, once they do some checks. I can’t believe she’s here. I didn’t exactly breathe my baby out calmly as I had aimed to do with hypnobirthing, but it’s all worked out pretty well! And we’ll be home to see the boys open their presents and introduce them to their little sister.

Thanks so much for all your kind messages. Merry Christmas to you all!

You are bloody awesome! Congratulations to you all, and happy birthday to the new addition.
It will all work out beautifully, you can sit in bed with all the children while they open their stockings and someone else can cook the dinner if anyone can be bothered.
You’ll probably not sleep tonight with the adrenaline but do try and get your head down for a few hours once you’re home.
Merry Christmas to you 🍾
