We have my husband's family due to come over for full whack Christmas dinner tomorrow - hubby came down with d & v, presume norovirus, in the night - DISASTER! I know that realistically I'm going to get it too, should we just cancel now? We have a fridge full of food, booze, the whole lot, I'm so upset ☹️

Hopefully one of your guests will be able to host instead, either collecting the food you've bought or by having a dash to a supermarket today.

Beeblot · 24/12/2018 09:58

You have to cancel. I'd be livid if I turned up to your house and someone was (or had been) recently I'll like that. One year we went to my aunt's for Boxing Day and they'd all been ill over Christmas. They didn't warn us and the whole extended family then got ill...I was a teenager but still have not forgotten it. It was horrible!

Wonkysack · 24/12/2018 10:00

Laughing at drinking hot liquids to kill the 'virus particles
They're called spores and are airborne Grin

Holidayshopping · 24/12/2018 10:01

Cancel. You can’t take all the food and kids to a relatives and just cook it there!! Assume you are contagious.

juneau · 24/12/2018 10:04

Agreed - you need to quarantine yourselves for everyone's sake. If you take the food and the kids to someone else's house one of you could then come down with this bug tomorrow - after you've kissed everyone hello, mistaken your glass for someone else's, etc. Share the Christmas love by NOT sharing (even if it's only potentially sharing), D&V.

Differentcorner · 24/12/2018 10:08

Only if you breathe in when someone pukes near you. It’s a faecal/vomit oral route infection you have to put the virus in your mouth

Dandeliontea123 · 24/12/2018 10:09

Hope you’re ok, OP, and haven’t come down with it as well.

JudasPrudy · 24/12/2018 10:11

@Pfingstrose that is interesting. DS and I had a vomiting bug last week and I thought t couldn't really be noro as it was relatively mild, he didn't even get the runs.

Beeblot · 24/12/2018 10:13

PS OP, I hope you manage to escape getting I'll and that you can salvage a nice Christmas for yourselves, even if you end up celebrating a little later than planned. Hope your DH is better soon!

Reallybadidea · 24/12/2018 10:27

@Wonkysack

They're called spores and are airborne

Technically viruses can't form spores. Unless the definition has changed since my microbiology degree 20 years ago. Noro isn't even an enveloped virus iirc.

AWishForWingsThatWork · 24/12/2018 10:28

I would ask them to delay for a day or two if that's an option, otherwise just tell them you're sorry, but he's too ill too cook and host, you're likely next, and just cancel.

Merryoldgoat · 24/12/2018 10:48

@JudasPrudy

I think these things affect people differently. DS is a vomiter, DH gets diarrhoea and I get both but in between severity.

That was a fun week.

MyNameIsFartacus · 24/12/2018 13:05

Thank you for the replies, I have been at work so unable to read, we are cancelling and rescheduling for Saturday afternoon to give him time to get over it, DH still throwing up. Meat is going in the freezer, luckily family are all local so they will go to MIL's house instead. Just so disappointed for the kids!!

I’m sorry for your kids too. They will love being with you both though, may turn out to be the best Christmas yet! Sending lots of well wishes to you

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 25/12/2018 08:22

How’s everyone in your household op? Fingers crossed you are all able to enjoy today

Reallybadidea · 25/12/2018 10:18

We have a piker this morning, 5 1/2 days since the first, and previously only, case. Thought we'd got away with it Sad

Reallybadidea · 25/12/2018 10:44

A puker not a piker Blush

Nat6999 · 25/12/2018 13:18

My parents have had to cancel Christmas dinner, both of them have Norovirus, I'm currently sat eating a bacon sandwich for my Christmas dinner.

MyNameIsFartacus · 25/12/2018 14:14

I have spent the day in bed, managed to drag myself down for the present opening - DH is feeling a bit better now but I came down with it yesterday afternoon. Eldest DD has gone to her GF's, youngest DD is enjoying the day at home. Blegh. What an absolute pain - on the plus side we have rescheduled for everybody to come round on Saturday instead. And I've just ordered a new pair of boots as a consolation prize.
