I know, I know it's not even Christmas yet! But, what do people do for New Years? We usually go to family but really not keen on spending it with IL's this year. However it's just me, DH and baby. So not many options..
interested to know how others celebrate and look for tips x

Bonfire on the beach with kids and friends and a view of the local fireworks display

Harrykanesrightsock · 23/12/2018 20:50

Stay home and ignore it. I have never been a fan, we are rural, live quite a distance from family, have spent it with neighbours before, had a night out in a pub, all pretty shit. So yes this year it will again be a quiet one.

MrsStrowman · 23/12/2018 20:51

This year, trying to get some sleep and wrangling a four week old... We usually have a smallish group of friends over for dinner, plenty of drinks and some games -the resistance, maybe a few co-,OP board games, pandrmic etc

WendyCope · 23/12/2018 20:52

Nothing!

britespark1 · 23/12/2018 20:54

Nothing as we have to prepare for our DS’s birthday the next day and I don’t need a hangover for that.

Celebelly · 23/12/2018 20:56

I'll be 34 weeks pregnant and trying to stay awake till midnight!

oppen · 23/12/2018 20:57

Nothing for us either! Nice & quiet night in with a couple of drinks. Everywhere is packed out so not ever an enjoyable night out for me. Early to bed & early to rise for me, get out bright & early on my horse to start the new year :-)

lastqueenofscotland · 23/12/2018 20:58

Me, DP and a few friends and ordering in a metric fucktonne of takeaway a couple of bottles of fizz and having a quiet one

DBN1 · 23/12/2018 20:58

Nothing special. I live in a predimently Muslim country so we won't be having Christmas but New Years Eve is widely celebrated. We, unfortunately, are skint, have no friends or family nearby, so just the 2 of us. It'll be like any other night except I'll get some snacks in. I'll still probably got to bed at my normal time, my husband will maybe call his family. He's up for work as usual at 6.30am the next day so no chance of a blowout even if we wanted to/could be arsed.

LEMtheoriginal · 23/12/2018 21:04

DP Likes to watch the fireworks interspersed with jools holland. Dd is 13 and wants to "party". By party she means play board games all night. God save us!!

LittleLlamaontheduskyroad · 23/12/2018 21:05

Usually we stay in and eat cheese & crackers and watch telly.

This year I'm at work.

Merryoldgoat · 23/12/2018 21:09

Nothing. Maybe a boardgame.

Ohheyyy · 23/12/2018 21:11

Going to a rave!

Mumshappy · 23/12/2018 21:13

I have friends and their children for a sleepover (other single parents)

AnythingConsidered · 23/12/2018 21:14

We usually do nothing, but this year we are hiring a cottage in the country with our best friends and their children. Will be manic with ask the kids, but very much looking forward to it!

nicoala1 · 23/12/2018 21:16

Let it pass me by. Everyone else does that the next day anyway!

It is just an excuse to party, and good on those who brave the crowds and packed pubs/restaurants too. Manufactured and forced jollity leaves me cold have to say. But each to their own.

Mummadeeze · 23/12/2018 21:16

I am going to a Chinese restaurant with my parents and daughter in the early evening. I won’t be staying up until midnight though. Am not too bothered about NYE. It is over rated!

yesyouareyouare · 23/12/2018 21:18

Sitting with my husband drinking prosecco, watching a sci fi movie. On new year's day we will go to a beautiful Celtic tomb near us and look out over the landscape.

GrumpyOldMare · 23/12/2018 21:19

Nothing at all

Toomanycats99 · 23/12/2018 21:19

Nothing as usual. We are in the London nyd parade for the 5th year so have to be up and about early!

Bonkerz · 23/12/2018 21:21

Gathering at my house with friends who have become family (my framily)
Lots of kids who will have the upstairs area with PS4, Wii, board games
Adults downstairs with karaoke and cards against humanity
Food will be jacket potatoes and various fillings plus nibbles and cheese board.
Lashings of alcohol.

Mulberry72 · 23/12/2018 21:21

We (DH, DS12 & I) go to a cottage in the Lake District on the 28th December - 3rd January.

On NYE we go to a tiny (and gorgeous) tapas restaurant and have dinner and then get back to the cottage and in our pyjamas for 10.30 and crack open the champagne and chocolates and watch Jools Holland until the bells at 12 Xmas Smile

HundredMilesAnHour · 23/12/2018 21:21

Have rented a converted barn in the New Forest for a few days over New Year. Peace and quiet, nature, underfloor heating and a log burner. Bliss!

nicoala1 · 23/12/2018 21:24

Are there any converted barns and cottages left I wonder lol.

Enjoy, whatever you do. Everyone is different.

SlowNorris · 23/12/2018 21:26

Curry followed by pub Xmas Smile
