I find the first 10mins or so so sad, gets me every time.

And the film is?

Fatted · 23/12/2018 18:42

I can't watch the first bit either! Or the bit when he reads the rest of the book!!

68Anon · 23/12/2018 18:42

Sorry, just reread title.

StarJazmin · 23/12/2018 18:43

How old is she?

You don’t want her to end up like Phoebe in friends.

Turquoisetamborine · 23/12/2018 18:43

We’ve literally just watched this. As someone who was infertile for many years, I filled up straight away.

KateAdiesEarrings · 23/12/2018 18:43

It's so sad but it's the backstory for the entire movie so I'm not sure about making DD miss it Grin

Lovingbenidorm · 23/12/2018 18:43

How old is dd?
I’d be inclined to let her watch it tbh

Knittink · 23/12/2018 18:44

Depends how old she is. It's ok to get sad when watching something sad!

Playdonut · 23/12/2018 18:45

Lol just leave the room. Kids can handle it but it's far too sad for an adult

Twooter · 23/12/2018 18:45

Only adults get upset by it. It goes over kids heads

AtrociousCircumstance · 23/12/2018 18:45

It won’t move her in the same way, she won’t understand.

Christ, those first ten minutes, though 😭😭😭

Clionba · 23/12/2018 18:46

Oh god, that is so, so sad.

bridgetreilly · 23/12/2018 18:46

She might well not find it as sad as you do. I get much more emotional about things now than I did as a child.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 23/12/2018 18:48

It’s so so sad. It my go to film when I need a big dirty get it out my system cry!

Let her watch the first bit and then go back in to enjoy together.

purpleelk · 23/12/2018 18:48

I’ve never seen a kid get upset by it. All the adults on the other hand, are always a mess. Mine were confused why I was crying and didn’t realise it was the movie.

SassitudeandSparkle · 23/12/2018 18:48

I always cry ar the first ten minutes, it is so moving.

Redcrayons · 23/12/2018 18:48

Depends how old. It completely washed over mine.

ABitCrapper · 23/12/2018 18:48

It's a very gentle way to deal with infertility and growing old and grief.
I let mine watch it and was very impressed by their questions.
You can't shelter children from the realities of dying - it's around all the time from the squashed slug to the family member passing.

Lattesforlife · 23/12/2018 18:49

Ds is totally confused as to why I sob for first 10mins of the film - it goes over his head completely!

Pachyderm1 · 23/12/2018 18:49

How old is she? I’d let her watch it - kids have to learn about death, and the film has a very healthy approach to it

Geekster1963 · 23/12/2018 18:51

She’s seen it before and knows what happens, she’s six I can’t bear to watch it though!

I lost a dear friend this year and the opening music was played at his funeral. I love the movie but couldn’t face it today - let her watch it, just have the tissues ready!

HidingFromMyKids · 23/12/2018 18:59

I had some sudden and very important jobs that needed doing at that exact moment. I'm a sobbing mess for about half an hour after anything sad like that so as I'm 36 weeks pregnant it wasn't worth the risk today Grin

Geekster1963 · 23/12/2018 19:07

Sorry about your friend cherry.

We had our second miscarriage on 21st December 11 years ago and went in on Christmas Eve for a D&C so I’m a bit more emotional watching it than I normally would be.

I watched it with my 3 children. I was a sobbing mess - they were completely fine. I don't think they really understand the weight of the loss at their ages - from 7 - 10.
