I wish you good luck and let's hope there are not to many rude customers to deal with on one of the biggest shopping days of the year.
I had quite a few yesterday and just smiled at him and that got to him big time. Let's also hear any stories you have on customers what has happened today or the last few days.

I was in a big supermarket yesterday. For the most part people were quite friendly and happy (having a joke about having to get squished together while queuing to avoid blocking everything up, letting people past when the aisles were packed etc). However, there was one woman clearly being awful at customer services when I popped over; demanding things that weren’t possible, swearing, muttering under her breath. The poor woman having to deal with her clearly had her teeth gritted. Really felt for her!

I have been working in the online department of a supermarket without a day off for many, many days and 0300 starts; it's been really, really busy. Off tomorrow though until the 27th - much needed!!!

That's me done now for Christmas! Working on the till. All 6 tills on, queues up the aisles. Got told as soon as I got in that we were running low of 10p bags. What was out on the tills were all that was left. Most people grumbled but understood, some decided not to use bags, and some used the more expensive ones. One women had a go at me and then stormed off because it was my fault we were out of 10p bags. Oh well. It could have been a lot worse. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Lots of work for the fill staff tomorrow morning though, the shelves were bare.

DS2 worked for M&S over Christmas a couple of years ago - never again! Requests/comments included:

  • Why don’t you sell individual shoe laces? I only want one. I suggest you contact your head office.
  • I want a duvet set but I only want the display set and I want it reduced.
  • Can you call me a taxi? I’ve finished my shopping.

The cheek of customers shocked him.

I used to work in M&S and it could be hell on Christmas Eve. Two women once fought over the last pot of single cream, and managed to explode it all over me and the shop floor. I made them pay half each!

Sale day was worse though - all the people who brought back stuff they'd had for 20 years.

One bloke bought back a genuine pair of 70s flares. I mean they were originally from M&S but this was 1997! He has the cheek to tell me if sold them to him the week before. A check of the microfiche machine indicated that they were c1976. I took great pleasure in telling him I hadn't been born the year they were sold....

I worked today on the checkout in a supermarket and it was manic but fine! All customers were in a good mood, pretty much, and there was a nice buzz.

Reporting back. DD's day was the busiest ever, and people were queuing out of the shop to pay. They had all on keeping the shelves stocked. I picked her up after work, and it took me half an hour just to get out of the shopping centre car park. Everyone was frazzled and stressed.
