How many home invasions have there been in the UK this year?

Absolutely loads in my area. Why would you leave the back doors open - madness!

GreenHillOpposite · 22/12/2018 14:07

People are describing breaking and entering and burglary. A home invasion is all of that plus assault, rape and murder. Home invasion is an extremely rare crime in the UK.

HolesinTheSoles · 22/12/2018 14:09

@GreenHillOpposite

Ahhh yes that's true but burglary is bad enough in my book, leaving the door open is just pointless risk taking.

FestiveNut · 22/12/2018 14:15

We had occupants tied up and beaten up around here. Very nasty case in one of the bigger houses, set aside from neighbours. But you're right, it's much rarer than burglary. Tbh, either is enough of a reason to lock the door in my book.

Home invasion seems a reasonable terminology to use for someone invading your home...

I've never deliberately gone out without my keys.

CoffeeCoffeeTea · 22/12/2018 16:19

Hi @grapesandcheese, No I'm not OP! I was just amazed that this had happened to someone else.

OP, hope your DH got home ok! My DH's excuse was that he fell asleep on the train and ended up having to get a taxi home.

GreenHillOpposite · 22/12/2018 16:26

Bean my first Google result is Wiki, "Home Invasion. (n some parts of the United States and some other English speaking countries home invasion is an illegal and usually forceful entry to an occupied, private dwelling with intent to commit a violent crime against the occupants...".

We don't need the American term to whip up fear, we have the perfectly adequate terms of 'burglary' and 'breaking and entering".

Update? Grin

fatbrows · 02/01/2019 02:11

I hope everything was okay, OP
