Lock the door. Home invasions are a nasty business.

That escalated quickly.
This "home invasion" warnings on MN really annoys me. How many home invasions have there been in the UK this year?

I hope he's home OP.

HollowTalk · 22/12/2018 10:09

I agree with a PP - who are these men who go out without a key?

masterandmargarita · 22/12/2018 10:11

They're berks. And I mean that in the cockney rhyming slang way.

SerenDippitty · 22/12/2018 10:16

Hope he’s home or if not crashed out on a colleague’s sofa.

CoffeeCoffeeTea · 22/12/2018 10:24

Gosh, I felt I posted this , my husband went out for his Christmas lunch at 11 yesterday, did not take his keys as he was to be back by 9pm. At 1am he's ringing my mobile to get in. He's still in bed . I'm supposed to feel grateful because he did not use the doorbell and wake the DC.

MsJudgemental · 22/12/2018 10:38

Who are all these supposedly adult men who go out without their keys?! Agree that if they can look after their wallets and phones leaving their keys is a control thing.

italiancortado · 22/12/2018 10:40

I hope he got home alright OP.

AwkwardSquad · 22/12/2018 10:43

I’m also perplexed at this not taking your keys thing. Really don’t understand. You leave the house, you take your keys. Why wouldn’t you take responsibility for getting yourself back into your own home rather than rely on someone else to be there to let you in?

araiwa · 22/12/2018 10:44

Controlling?

Or they knew they would be getting pissed and didnt want to lose them. Or it turned into a bigger night than planned. Or they forgot to pick them up..

its much easier to go out without your keys if you live with other adults as you wont always be locking the door behind you which is usually the final check of have i got my keys

EleanorLavish · 22/12/2018 10:45

Get a key box?

NomsQualityStreets · 22/12/2018 10:47

Did he get back OK OP?

italiancortado · 22/12/2018 10:47

To be fair if I'm not taking the car I often go out without my keys. I don't carry a bag, usually a bankcard, my phone and a small amount of cash in my bra. Taking my keys just gives me something else to carry/worry about loosing. I would always be home around midnight, so before DH and the teens are asleep anyway. I don't think we can judge the OPDH for not taking keys, there may be a reasonable explanation for him not being home by the time she was going to bed.

iLoveFoood · 22/12/2018 10:53

Wow it would usually be DP that keeps the key safe on a night out for me not the other way around. He would flip if I left a key under a pot as it's dangerous especially this time of year with presents in the house. Your Dp sounds very irresponsible to expect you to 1. Leave a key under the pot at Christmas, inviting thief's and 2. Not having the decency to even say 'I'm out with friends babe might not get to text you for a few hours'

AllKinds · 22/12/2018 10:54

Update needed!

Vampiratequeen · 22/12/2018 10:58

Before we were married my DH disappeared for 6 hours, no keys, no phone, he was only supposed to be half an hour.
Is he back ok OP?

nakedscientist · 22/12/2018 11:08

OP what has happened, are you ok?

Birdsgottafly · 22/12/2018 11:17

GreenHillOpposite, there's been warnings in a few towns of random attacks/burglaries, were Men have been trying doors on the off-chance they open.

There's also been quite a few toddlers/young children found wandering after getting out of an unlocked door.

Clarich007 · 22/12/2018 11:22

"And a small amount of cash in my bra" Eh that's weird !!

italiancortado · 22/12/2018 11:39

Maybe.

Years ago I worked as a delivery driver for a takeaway, doing 3/4/5 deliveries at a time, collecting over £150 some runs, my bra was the safest place. If anyone robbed me, I had a small change purse with less than £20 in it; the rest was safe in my bra. Some of the estates I had to go to were dodgy to say the least.

HumptyNumptyNooNoo · 22/12/2018 11:52

I do hope you were hoovering loudly this morning if he came in in the early hours ! No sympathy for people who don't keep you in the loop !

MeOldChina · 22/12/2018 12:30

I also used to always keep a tenner in my bra so that I could get a taxi if my handbag went missing on a night out.

GottaGoGottaGo · 22/12/2018 12:37

I hope he's home OP.*

Without wishing to derail the OP's thread (is he home by the way??), "home invasion" is really just another word for burglary whilst someone is at home and there have been literally thousands and thousands of them... So posters advising the OP not to leave her door unlocked are right to do so.

GrapesAndCheese · 22/12/2018 13:25

For those that missed it, OP NC'd as @CoffeeCoffeeTea and replied the following:

"Gosh, I felt I posted this , my husband went out for his Christmas lunch at 11 yesterday, did not take his keys as he was to be back by 9pm. At 1am he's ringing my mobile to get in. He's still in bed . I'm supposed to feel grateful because he did not use the doorbell and wake the DC."

Meyouandbabytoo · 22/12/2018 13:36

grapes OPs DH went out at 2pm not 11am. Coffee was saying she could've posted it as she had a similar situation, not that she was the OP as far as I can tell.

FestiveNut · 22/12/2018 14:00

How many home invasions have there been in the UK this year?

Don't know, but I've seen a few in the papers in my local area alone. And found someone trying one of our doors last month. So I think it's pretty sound advice tbh. No one ever thinks it'll happen to them...
